You might not know who The Colored Parade is yet, but you soon will. The Colored Parade is Andrew Adkins from Nashville, TN. Nashville is more and more becoming the next music and artistic hotspot in the ever growing universe that is the indie scene and The Colored Parade as well as Andrew are not only perfect examples of that but also perfect representatives of that scene.

One listen to his new album, “…And The Walls Of The City Will Shake” is both a musical journey in and of itself and a timestamp of a moment in the musical history that is the indie movement, or should I say revolution. You be the judge. Please, by all means, give this album a spin (or virtual spin to you millennials) and do not cheat yourself out of such a diverse treat for your ears.

I had a chance to talk to Andrew about “…And The Walls Of The City Will Shake”, his contribution with the song “I’m Indestructable” to the upcoming motion picture soundtrack for “Horns” starring Daniel Radcliffe, his connection he and I share in respect to where we grew up (it really is a small world!) and his future plans!

ABOUT THE COLORED PARADE:
The Colored Parade is the musical brainchild of Nashville, TN-based songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist Andrew Adkins. Mixing tapestries of sounds, atmospheric textures with lush vocal ambiance and a wide array of musical styles, flavors and elements all add up to create this fresh, new sound and vision called The Colored Parade. “I basically locked myself up in my studio with a few guitars, synths, keys, an assortment of percussion, an 808, a banjo, a sampler and a mandolin and this is what happened!” says Adkins. “I wanted to make an album with lots of shades, emotions, colors and moods constantly moving and shifting. That is where the name ‘Colored Parade’ came from.” The songs from The Colored Parade’s debut release, “…And The Walls Of The City Will Shake” blends and uniquely combines rootsy overtones with currents of electronic-synth, obscure samples, wailing undertones of pedal steel guitar, a barrage of horns with cascades of vocal harmonies. Ladies and gentlemen, The Colored Parade has arrived!

ABOUT ANDREW ADKINS:
Andrew Adkins is an eclectic blend of singer/songwriter. His mixture of psychedelic blues, tinges of folk-rock mixed with compelling lyrics has evoked comparisons to an array of artists from Steve Earle, M. Ward, Mary Gauthier, Lenny Kravitz and Bob Dylan.

In 2001 Andrew formed the psychedelic/roots-rock band, Mellow Down Easy. Their final album, 2009’s “Cosmisutra” (Dualtone) was praised by critics from Rolling Stone, No Depression, Outlaw Magazine, Vintage Guitar magazine as “one of the most original styles in the last decade” and a “breath of fresh air” for the band’s unique sound and mixture of influences.

Andrew has spent the better part of the last decade on the road, on stage and in the studio. In 2006, Music City publication, The Nashville Scene voted Adkins one of “The Top 3 Local Songwriters in Nashville” (along side Will Hoge and Marcus Hummon).

In 2011 Andrew helped form the rock band, Lions for Real along with John Banzhoff, Kyle Blankenship and Jonathan Biggs. Several months after their inception the band was flown to Los Angeles, CA by Warner Bros. Records, eventually signing with Hollywood-based Werewolf Heart Records (Ryan Gosling, Ima Robot). A year later, citing business and personal reasons, Andrew walked away from the fold. He then began work on a new solo album as well as a new project, The Colored Parade – who’s debut album “And the Walls of the City Will Shake” was released May 6, 2014.
