- Stockholm Syndrome Chris Caulfield 3:10
Chris Caulfield is an emerging artist from just outside Toronto, Canada. Not the typical up-and-comer; Chris’s stories, comprised of highly introspective lyrics and haunting melodies, are delivered atop engaging compositions that uniquely sew together elements of alternative and emo-era rock, hip-hop and more – making Chris Caulfield tough to pin to a genre.
Playing in bands around the Toronto area in his teens and early twenties, Chris found himself on a unique path early, and was blessed to spend the next decade managing his own businesses and starting a family, bringing a wealth of events and experiences to tap into musically. No stranger to strife, however, over the years Caulfield has struggled with chronic pain, mental health (depression and anxiety disorders) and has grappled with a range of challenges and experiences which he explores in his music and with which many listeners can relate – with mental health being a significant theme.
In 2020, as the whole world was enduring the challenges brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic, Chris was also navigating one of the most challenging periods in his own life and found himself diving head-first right back into an outlet that once before had served as such a powerful outlet, music. Quickly setting up a home studio, he got to work on a new project in late 2020, something different than before, more personal. Within a few short months, he found himself further than he had originally planned and in late March 2021, launched his first projects in over a decade – three singles, “The Other Way”, “Gripped” and “Wolves”, followed a week later by “Letdown” which hit 10,000 streams in its first 30 days on Spotify.
As Chris started releasing new singles in the spring, there were early singles that encouraged him to keep pushing forward including: Spotify playlist editors accepting different singles (even multiple) and providing positive feedback, influencers with up to 1M+ audiences sharing his singles and using them in posts, and meetings with several independent labels in North America and Europe and connecting with other artists at various stages for advice, collaborations and more.
Coming into the summer, 2021, some of these connections began to formalize and a team started forming around Caulfield, working on several singles with two European based independent labels, an opportunity to write songs for TV and movies, and finally an artist development project with a Canadian indie label and management firm. Recently, his single “Feelings” was remixed by Grammy-nominated producer, StoneBridge, and had an official lyric video/visualizer developed and promoted by LA-based label Common Sense.
Currently working on a wave of new singles, a music video and several other upcoming projects, Chris Caulfield has a story to tell, and he’s on a mission to share it with as many people as possible.
Chris Caulfield seamlessly blends genres for unique, compelling sounds, making him tricky to consistently categorize. With comparisons made to recent artists like Post Malone, The Kid Laroi, Billie Eilish, Juice Wrld and Iann Dior to acts like Linkin Park, Panic! At the Disco, 21 Pilots, USS, Metallica, MGK, Lil Peep, XXXTentacion, Halsey and more, it’s easy to see where Chris’s sound varies in this range of influences.
The diversity in sound within Caulfield’s catalog makes sense given the artists’ wide range of influences stemming from rock legends like Radiohead, The Goo Goo Dolls, Chris Cornell (Audioslave, Soundgarden), USS, Oasis, Chevelle, Disturbed, Slipknot, Tool, A Perfect Circle, Breaking Benjamin and Damien Rice, to hip-hop and rap artists such as Post Malone, JuiceWrld, Drake, J.Cole, Kanye West, Lil Tjay, Eminem and others like Justin Timberlake, Khalid, Halsey and more.
