Female Street Fighters Star in Broken Chakra Video

UK Hardcore-Hophop band Broken Chakra pay homage to 80s cult movies with new video ‘Survival’

British politically-charged hiphop-punkers BROKEN CHAKRA have released their brand new video ‘Survival’. Featuring an action packed narrative of female street fighting to huge riffs and rapid fire vocals, this is a must watch for all who love classic metallic hardcore and 80s cult movies.

    The band states:
“A mash up of 80s cult movies and Hip Hop aesthetics, is in essence the video for Broken Chakra’s Survival of the Fittest. The Warriors meets Mad Max to cause some serious Van Dammage. Led by director Will Wright, this homage drew on the talent of fight choreographer Leon Sui and endurance of cast and crew to get through a thoroughly cold and miserable night shoot in winter. Nothing worthwhile is ever easy, and delays due to a training injury to a cast members, and last minute location change is testament to that.”

As veterans of the underground, Broken Chakra are a band of players from numerous hardcore, metal and hip-hop bands with carriers spanning the last two decades. This project takes things back to what they all love: heavy riffing, big grooves and aggressive rap. Over the past year the band have been building a firm following on the UK hardcore circuit playing with the likes of Knuckledust, No Second Chance, Malevolence and many more. Check social media for shows as many more are to be announced soon.

Survival is taken from Broken Chakra’s EP, available now via Jon Kennedy Federation:

Paul van Dyk & Ummet Ozcan: Come With Me (We Are One) Out Now

In what promises to be the first of a cornucopia of new productions throughout the latter half of 2014, August heralds Paul van Dyk’s long-awaited return to the singles realm. ‘Come With Me (We Are One)’ finds the electronic music overlord back in the studio with Turkish/Dutch wunderkind Ummet Ozcan… The outcome is a fiercely infectious & effective piece of floor-propelling electronic music.

‘Come With Me’ will be the first club track to be taken from the highly anticipated, autumn 2014-released ‘Politics Of Dancing 3’.

A firm fan favourite, ‘Dae Yor’ (from van Dyk’s last long-player) notched the first production cooperation between van Dyk and Ummet Ozcan. Three years on, with the righteously anthemic ‘Come With Me’, the pair have returned to the studio together to create a fittingly large follow-up.

PvD’s Festival Mix leads the release’s charge, with a stadium wowing sound-wave of trance technique and electro-leadline ascension.

Scoring early plaudits from the dance press, ‘Come With Me’ has picked up rave early reviews in MIXMAG and a Single of the Month nod from the UK’s DJ Magazine (“all the sonorous hard-struck drums & percussion, enticing chord undulation and riff conviction a Money Shot needs”, says the Mag). It’s now primed and ready to set decks and radio waves alight globally for spinners of multiple denominations.

Subtitled ‘We Are One’, the new single also fulfils the role of anthem for PvD’s annual Berlin mega event WE ARE ONE, which will took place August 16 at the famous Zitadelle Spandau in Berlin.

If you’re looking to do your floor a major solid this month, ‘Come With Me’s the one to do it with! It’s available from all good download stores from today.

Weaving the Past: Journey of Discovery

CHASING LIGHT PICTURES, LLC, SHELLEY MORRISON (Actress/Executive Producer) and Director/Writer WALTER DOMINGUEZ have extended the exclusive engagement of their new documentary feature film, WEAVING THE PAST: JOURNEY OF DISCOVERY until THURSDAY, AUGUST 28. Attendance at the film’s opening weekend was exceptionally strong and the response from audiences was overwhelmingly positive, meriting the extension of the engagement beyond its original run.

Americans of Latino background as descendants of immigrant families are responding to Weaving the Past’s engaging and positive portrayal of immigrant family life and its wider history. The film is also appealing to Americans of other ethnicities who are curious to learn the stories and history of Latino people, while also identifying with Weaving the Past’s universal theme of searching for family origins.

The film continues through Thursday, August 28 at the LAEMMLE PLAYHOUSE 7 THEATERS at 673 East Colorado Blvd., Pasadena, CA 91101. Daily screenings are 1pm, 4pm, 7pm, 10pm. Ticket information is at (310) 478-3836 or online at: http://www.laemmle.com/films/38227.

In this film, which recently was recognized for its outstanding work by receiving an Accolade international film competition Award of Merit, and The Indie Fest Award for Documentary Feature and Editing, Los Angeles-based filmmaker Walter Dominguez takes viewers with him on his quest to unravel the secrets of his late Mexican-born grandfather, the Methodist Minister Emilio N. Hernandez. Through compelling story-telling that weaves documentary footage, archival photographs, interviews and vivid re-enactments, Dominguez pieces together the remarkable journey of his grandfather, who began life in extreme poverty and at age five was forced to flee abuse at home and seek refuge as a worker on a large hacienda.

“Facing certain imprisonment and death by execution, my grandfather and his comrades escaped across the open U.S.-Mexico border and began a new a life as laborers laying railroad tracks in the wide expanses of the American West and then eventually as miners in Arizona,” said Dominguez.

“The work at the mines in Arizona, where discrimination against Mexican laborers was rampant, caused them to begin unionizing Mexican miners, and then from their base of operations in the U.S. becoming major players in the growing movement to overthrow Porfirio Diaz, which ultimately succeeded – at great personal cost and death,” added Dominguez.

Among the many other revelations in this carefully researched and highly engaging documentary is a riveting portrayal of how Los Angeles’ Anglo Americans and Mexican immigrants successfully worked together one hundred years ago to create much-needed social change in the segregated city, and how Los Angeles played a key role in assisting the Mexican Revolution.

“It’s my hope that this film will not only give the viewer a better understanding of key historical events in Los Angeles and Mexico, but will also serve as a driving force in encouraging folks from a variety of ethnicities and traditions to work together in tackling the challenges of life.”

    Daily Dose: Elstow – Dust

    1926027_804718126223012_4857695917569101352_o

Elstow is a 5 piece band from Sydney, founded on Jared Shaw and Chel Browne’s mutual appreciation of the melodic folk and psychedelic sounds of the 60s.

Borrowing the name of the building they were living in, Elstow was born out of an appreciation for the melodic folk stylings of sixties heroes Simon & Garfunkel and The Mamas & The Papas. Initially a duo, Jared Shaw and Chel Browne played Peats Ridge Festival in 2012 on the back of a few rough demos before taking some time off to travel and come to grips with their wider musical influences.

In 2013 Elstow expanded to incorporate five members. Drawing on the west coast psychedelic sounds of bands such as Jefferson Airplane and Peanut Butter Conspiracy, as well as nineties alt-psych idols Brian Jonestown Massacre and Mazzy Star, Elstow started work on their debut EP.

To be released in 2014, the result is a five track EP comprised of dreamy psychedelic landscapes fused with a unique folk sensibility. Combining surreal and at times haunting atmospherics with a subtle, personal approach, it’s their own variety of neo-psychedelic-folk pop.

Travis Bowlin Releases New Single “Got the Goods”

Travis Bowlin is pleased to announce the release of his newest musical single “Got the Goods”, which was recorded at 16th Edge Studios on historic Music Row in Nashville, TN and produced by Nolan Neal.

“Got the Goods” is a soulful, downright FUNKY rock song fronted by the rough yet smooth voice of Travis Bowlin. Written by Bowlin, Marla Sitten & Aubrey Wollett, the song reveals an encounter a man has with a woman who is tired of the same old loser guys she attracts. He does everything in his power to convince her that he is different and that he’s “Got the Goods”. This is definitely a track that will get you up and dancing. “Got the Goods” will be released to the public for sale September 17, 2014 and will available through GooglePlay, iTunes, Spotify, and other online music retailers.

“It’s really a Motown meets Rock song and timeless enough to relate to all ages”, says Bowlin. “It’s a track that I am very proud of and believe in.”

Along with “Got the Goods”, nine more songs have been recorded at 16th Edge Studios with producer, Nolan Neal. When not recording, Travis continues to play regular tour dates, writes as many songs as he can, and has recently made an appearance on national television.

    About Travis Bowlin:
In 2014 Travis began recording his debut album at 16th Edge Studios in Nashville, TN produced by Nolan Neal. March 1, 2014 Travis released his first studio single “Bad, Bad Man”, which received radio air play on over 50’s stations worldwide, a live performance on Nashville’s NBC News, & many publications. Just a few months later in June, Travis had his national TV debut performing his original song “Traveling Man” on the TLC hit show 19 Kids & Counting during the “A Duggar Leaves Home” special starring Amy Duggar. With hundreds of performances under his belt over the last 15 years, Travis Bowlin is looking forward to his promising future and the release of his upcoming debut album followed by a tour.

    About Nolan Neal/16th Edge Studios:
Nolan Neal has recently been seen singer lead for the successful Rock band Hinder (No public announcement has yet been made by the band.). Roots Songwriter John Fairhurst Set To Debut New Trio

Bristol based, the John Fairhurst Band are a newly formed trio fronted by their eponymous songwriter. Drawing from Rock, blues and world music, with a penchant for slide guitar and a distinctive deep growling voice, his songs, delivered in pure raconteur style, narrate all the hardships of life on the road

For the first time, John Fairhurst will be releasing his new album – and the preceding singles – accompanied by a powerhouse rhythm section of Bristols young guns: Toby Murray & Pete Episcopo.

For a taste of their sound, check out this video for ‘Breakdown’:

The new releases is a turning point in the career of John Fairhurst, marking the shift from solo artist and duo member to power rock blues trio. In the course of his career so far, he has spent the last decade travelling the world and supported the likes of Fun Lovin’ Criminals, performed with world beatbox champions Bellatrix and Reeps1 and the late, great, blues legend Johnny Winter. He includes Winter among his fans, as well as Robbie Macintosh of The Pretenders and Indian Sarod Master, K Sridhar– just a small indication of the quality of his live show.

The new material is the fruit of first class production: Alex Beitzke (Jamiroquai, Florence and The Machine, Nigel Kennedy, Ed Sheeran, Prince) , Paul Cartledge (Tony Visconti) and mastering engineer Ray Staff (Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, The Clash).

This fantastic pedigree of collaborators is the result of a prolific approach to gigging, playing between 200-250 gigs a year between 2011 and 2014. Highlights include taking to the stage at SXSW in Austin, Texas, playing the Roundhouse in London and opening for Johnny Winter on his European Tour. That’s not to mention countless festival appearances and 35 gigs at Glastonbury alone since 2008, including a performance this year on The Glade Stage.

All highly impressive for a career that he “fell into” almost by chance. Taking a tumble down an unmarked manhole while labouring on a building site, Fairhurst had little mobility for a year following a serious knee injury. He used some of the money from the accident compensation to immediately buy a National Resonator guitar, playing it incessantly for the year he was bed bound, truly feeling the blues. It’s during this year that he really developed virtuoso finger-picking techniques and found the sound which carried him across four continents.

Designer Calleen Cordero Now Beautifies Forests As Well as Feet

Luxury leather accessories designer Calleen Cordero has recently announced a donation partnership with environmental nonprofit Trees for the Future. Cordero’s donation will fund the planting of two trees for every pair of shoes, handbags and accessory item sold, as part of the strategic agro-foresters mission to build integrated and sustainable land-use systems worldwide.

For some Calleen Cordero Collection fans, this natural partnership complements Cordero’s current role within the fashion community as a thought leader and style influencer. “Her collections really blend old school craftsmanship with a modern design sensibility,” says Sarah Kelley, a self-described “shoe addict” and Cordero aficionado in Los Angeles. “Her designs really stand apart.”

Calleen Cordero is offered in over 200 specialty retailers worldwide such as Theodore, A’maree’s in Newport Beach, Margaret O’Leary, Isetan in Japan, Madison International as well as her 2 signature retail stores in Los Angeles. Starting as a precocious sixteen year old assistant shoe buyer for a high fashion brand, Ms. Cordero went on to work with footwear heavyweights like Dr. Martens, Kenneth Cole and Steve Madden before going out on her own more than 15 years ago.

Today, her collection combines Italian leather, semi-precious stones, double padded insoles for maximum comfort and her signature hardware details. Each shoe is made at her North Hollywood factory by the small cadre of artisans Cordero employs to produce her celebrated designs. Whether it’s a shoe heel made from a plank of responsibly forested alder and plywood, or the time consuming process of hand-lasting and sewing done there by her staff, Cordero’s respect for old school methods and environmental sustainability is immediately apparent to any visitor.

“I’m excited about our partnership with Trees for the Future,” shares the designer, “because it really promotes the values behind the products we create here and allows me the chance to give back.” Indeed, for many fashionistas, Calleen Cordero has chosen a cause that fits perfectly- combining environmental activism with an international reputation as a champion of sustainability and lasting beauty.

JammerZine Exclusive Premiere: Kosoti – Bark and Sticks

It is a privilege to announce that Blue Soap Music has given us the opportunity to be the first to show Kosoti‘s new video for their song “Bark and Sticks”! This will be the only pace you can see it for the next 24 hours! So without further adieu…

    ABOUT KOSOTI:
-kosoti- are a fresh, upcoming & unsigned, six piece folk/pop group based in the North East of England, UK.

After a near death experience in 2013, lead singer/songwriter, Allan Hyslop, realised that he should treasure every moment of his life doing what he loved, MUSIC!

In late 2013 -kosoti- were born.

-kosoti- gathered pace and travelled a long way very quickly. After only six months they had not only released “War” and “Pirouettes” (a double “A” sided digital single and video) to critical acclaim, but also released the amazing “Cradle” EP on CD and MP3 with its lush, heart-warming, homemade video which goes hand in hand with the feeling of the title track.

Not content with this they performed their debut show at Sage Gateshead Hall Two to a hugely satisfied SELL OUT audience.

They grew Facebook “Likes” rapidly into thousands with many thousands more video views in the same period.

Having performed sessions for BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio and Metro Radio very early on their career, the future is definitely bright for -kosoti- as they constantly drive forward, not stopping until everyone has heard their music and fallen in love with it.

With more and more live shows to be announced we bring you… -kosoti-, enjoy!

First Listen: Miss Elm – Bitter Taste

    904794_451291201619906_93678287_o

The infinitely fun and folky Miss Elm have a brand new track to show the world. It’s called ‘Bitter Taste’ and it’s a first taste of their new EP, titled Hybrid, which is set for release later in 2014. But for now, the quirky Gypsy-Pop Quartet are heading out on the road through October to celebrate the release of the single.

‘Bitter Taste’ will be released to the world Friday 19th September.

The single follows two previous music releases, hundreds of gigs, and many, many hours spent in the studio. Miss Elm are now poised to drop their Hybrid EP right onto your ear-drums (and perhaps into your heart).

Bitter Taste is the next phase of Elm; sweet meets dark for a brand-new pop sound! The track explores the bitterness of a jilted lover, a discarded relationship, and the feeling you get when somebody just walks away.

The EP was mastered by Dave Neil and was recorded, mixed, and produced by Michael Carpenter at Love Hz Studios. All of the tracks on Hybrid feature Erin Harrington on lead vocals, piano and ukulele; James Peeters on drums and percussion; James Lord on bass guitar and glockenspiel and Lucinda Bopf on flute, synth, backing vocals and melodica.

The four-piece from Brisbane are hopping to it on the road throughout October in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and the Gold Coast, taking in shows at The New Globe Theatre in Brisbane, Petersham Bowls Club in Sydney, The Gasometer in Melbourne and Currumbin Creek Tavern on their journey.

The Bitter Taste single tour kicks off on October 2nd at the New Globe Theatre (Brisbane). Bitter Taste is available for download from September 19. It will be available on iTunes, Bandcamp and all good online retailers.

A Cambodian Winter: Putting A Cambodian Film On The International Stage

Writer-director Forest Wise and Producer Ben Bartlett have launched a heartfelt crowd-funding campaign to help finish his full length feature film, A Cambodian Winter. The film is a poetic road trip, coming of age story. Three young Cambodian children, each with their own story, all looking for love and happiness.

Wise and his team are raising $50,000 on the crowd-funding platform Indiegogo with the deadline of 9 September 2014. “We want people to get involved, spread the love, and be part of something good”, Wise said.

As an international collaboration of artists, the idea was to create a film that will improve the lives of Cambodian children. “Our kids are all partners in the film and will share in the film’s profits. We are also empowering them to build sustainable lives beyond the film”, he said.

The film is a drama loosely based on reality, and in part reflects Wise’s own experiences of living in Cambodia for the past three years. “What we have achieved with our kids, and the connections we’ve developed, is nothing short of magical”, he said.

Set against the exotic beauty and ancient culture of Cambodia, two young girls, Pim and Chamron, embark upon a journey of yearning in search of the family they never had. Alone and against the world they meet Kith, an older streetwise boy. Kith takes them under his wing, showing them how to survive as the three travel onward to the sea. Slowly Pim and Kith fall for each other, discovering the love for which they have been searching.

The film explores the universal story of love, to find someone who will take you in their arms and hold on to you forever. “This is a love letter to living, to being in the moment, even when everything seems to be against you”, Wise said.

With Jaime Reynoso (Director of Photography) behind the lens, the film captures the very essence of Cambodia. Shooting is now complete and editing is currently underway in Siem Reap. Producer, Ben Bartlett welcomes sponsors through this campaign. “The money we raise will be used to help finish the film through sound and picture mastering. If lots of people give a little bit, we will get there”, Bartlett said.

The filmmakers are offering a variety of rewards to those who generously donate money toward the film including t-shirts, posters, autographed prints, onscreen credits and much more. For as little as US$25, supporters can get a HD download of the film when complete.

Wise and Bartlett plan to premiere the film on the 2015 international film festival. With tremendous potential in international markets based on stunning cinematography, interesting talent, and a provocative story line, A Cambodian Winter is set to be a surprising hit on the big screen.

Daily Dose: Little Donkey – Damascus

    Colour_5

Beards – not vogue beards – but beards like tapestries – battle, bravery, brotherhood. Armed with unrefined grungy folk, Little Donkey are the valiant defenders of the Essex realm. Plug in on your trans-Mordor commute and escape with the Riders of Rohan rhythm. It’s the outlaw’s melody – come on, join in.

    Band Interests
    Here are some Donkey facts:
Donkeys can live for 25 to 35 years of age. However, donkeys in third world countries seldom live over 10 years.
Jennies are pregnant for one full year and usually give birth to one foal. Twins are very rare.
The largest donkey ever recorded weighed in at a staggering 109 tonnes.

Donkeys are used as guard animals for goats and sheep against the threat of coyote and fairy attacks. They are also used to protect cows while calving, thanks mainly to their invisible tusks, which can be used as a cradle for newborns. The coyote is the only natural threat to donkeys, although fairies are often seen prancing boisterously around the sack-end.

Donkeys can easily carry 30% of their body weight in live load and 20% in dead weight. Undead loads are fictional and should only be considered if real.

Hip Hop Artist “Doza” Debuts New Music Video

Officially launched on the artist’s YouTube Channelon August 17th, a new four minute music video titled ‘Dope Boy’ features California native hip hop artist, Doza. The song was produced by L. David Song and was mixed and mastered by Julius Tuazon. The video was directed and edited by Jan Lim and was shot primarily at Gradient Studiosin downtown LA.

In the ‘Dope Boy’ song, Doza portrays the persona of the cocky and arrogant criminal as the video’s focus and main character. Despite being kidnapped, he remains cool and calm because he feels he isn’t in danger. That is, until he realizes he’s been double crossed by his partner in crime. Even at the end when he finally accepts his fate, he does so with a smile because he knows it’s what he signed up for by taking part in this life. At the very least, he got to see a nice kiss before dying. The entire video is here to watch and share:

Randy Koszela, the video’s Co-Director, provided some exclusive comments stating, “It was a pleasure working with Doza on this video. Jan and I had shot a video with him before but this was Doza’s first time really acting in one of his videos. I was impressed by how quick he really picked it up and his ability to hold his character through takes, even while beautiful girls were torturing and seducing him in scenes.”

Doza wanted the video to look and feel much darker in contrast to other music videos he has worked on in the past, all while trusting in his directors to produce something that was visually intriguing. This music video follows the artist’s debut EP which launched in the Spring of this year. ‘Dope Boy’ is Doza’s second single and music video and stars Doza, Francoise Boshart (who plays Doza’s blonde accomplice on camera) and Asian model Na Yun Bae Feeny.

Koszela goes on to say, “You can expect great things out of this artist, from his lyrical constructions to his delivery, and to his new craft of bringing his alter ego to life on the visual front.”

    About the Artist:
Doza is a 26 year old hip hop artist born and raised in Los Angeles, California. His work is influenced by the 90’s hip-hop era, including artists like 2pac, Eminem, Redman, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg. In March of 2013, Doza released his debut EP ‘Budget Cuts’, which has been featured on top music blogs like Endless Hip Hop, Rap4Ever, RisingHype, Hip-HopVibe and Curb Weight. Doza has worked alongside Asi Friedman who is best known for executive producing the Native Guns “Barrel Men” album, and for working with the group Kahn Kwest for the single “Cali Life” on their 2014 mixtape “Musical Exploration”.

Instrument Donations to Assist Music Therapy

‘Beat Teams,’ the instrument donation program created by Terra Rising Films’ founder Michael Ricucci, will supply instruments for the Berklee College Music Therapy Service Trip to Panama which departs August 23, 2014.

After learning about the instruments Terra Rising was able to collect for a service trip to Haiti this past July, Emma Byrd, a recent graduate of Berklee College of Music, reached out to the film company to assist her efforts in helping to build music therapy programs in Panama. Emma will lead a team of six Berklee music therapy undergraduates, in conjunction with the Danilo Perez Foundation, to community centers in Colon, Panama, as well as Hospitál del Niño, to support the growth of music therapy in Panama through seminars, symposiums, and workshops utilizizing music and culture native to Panama.

”’This trip is all about supporting community growth and wellness through music- something Panamanians already know how to do, but something which we, as music therapists, get to give a clinical context for,” said team leader Emma Byrd.

“Panamanian culture is saturated in music, and the community there is already host to an emerging music therapy scene. It is such a privilege to be part of the effort to share our abundant resources with the people of Panama,” added an enthusastic Byrd.

This will be the second service trip to Panama for this group of music therapy students from Berklee College of Music.

“The work these students are a part of is important and we are humbled to play a role in their efforts to expand the knowledge of the power of music to heal. They are showing all of us the type of difference that we can all make through our own individual effort,” said Beat Teams founder Michael Ricucci.

“We hope these students start a trend where we can continue to send instruments to different countries with music therapists and students capable of building music programs in harmony with the local community. Terra Rising is also planning a world tour in the near future where we will expand on these relationships and provide even more assistance in the development of music programs worldwide,” added Ricucci.

Since the summer of 2013, Beat Teams has been able to provide over 100 instruments to music therapy programs throughout the US as well as locations in Panama and Haiti. Through live concerts and the generous contributions from people all over the country, Beat Teams continues to help community music programs grow, both domestically and internationally

Poet Launches Poets for Hunger© Mission To Give Back

North Carolina poet, Kym Gordon Moore announces the official launch of Poets for Hunger©, a not-for-profit mission to feed and edify the mind, body and spirit through poetry. This platform is designed to rally poets into bringing greater awareness to the various aspects of hunger, through the efforts and support of the poetry community.

Kym Gordon Moore, Founder for Poets for Hunger© (PFH) and author of “Wings of the Wind: A Cornucopia of Poetry,” developed this platform to integrate her community outreach work with her love of poetry. Such incorporation includes eradicating the lack of food, increasing cognitive performance and improving emotional deficiency. According to Moore, “There are many poets in our local, national and global communities, using their poetic efforts to enhance lives and give back. Through such efforts, these poets also promote the arts and humanities. I am grateful for and encouraged by the type of support and excitement I see generated throughout the community with poetry. Through Poets for Hunger© I want poets everywhere to use this platform to show the type of impact they are making in their communities, while enhancing the poetry genre.” To learn more about Poets for Hunger©, visit http://www.poetsforhunger.com/.

Beginning September 1, 2014, Poets for Hunger© will begin collecting non-perishable food, in conjunction with the resident poets of the Indian Trail Cultural Arts Center. These donations will benefit local families in need for Thanksgiving. Those attending the monthly poetry open mic events are asked to bring at least 1 canned good or other non-perishable food item for their September, October and November readings, which occurs on the second Saturday each month. The monthly open mic readings at the Indian Trail Cultural Arts Center in Indian Trail, North Carolina, are free to the public.

Poets for Hunger© continues to collect Box Tops for Education labels to benefit a local school. Labels for the 2014-2015 school year will be donated to Indian Trail Elementary School, in Indian Trail, North Carolina. If you do not have a school in your area to support with the Box Tops for Education program, feel free to donate them to Poets for Hunger© instead of throwing them away. First Listen: TaRell Tymes – Slow It Down feat.Alissa Feudo

    10431158_811968372176760_2748933009555364171_o

TaRell TymeS, born August 20, 1995 grew up in Prince George’s County Maryland with his mother Tracey and sister China. He attended Charles Herbert Flowers High School until he moved to Hampton, VA where he graduated from Hampton High in 2013. His passion for music began in 7th grade when his mom would play the cd “No Way Out” by Puff Daddy and the Family. From then, TaRell TymeS, (Terrell Gilreath, Jr.) would sit in his room with a black and white journal and a pencil writing lyrics.

When asked how his style differs from other rappers today, TaRell TymeS says he has a smooth vibe and just wants to write music that people can chill to. He was influenced by rappers from the 90’s such as A Tribe Called Quest, Nas, The Pharcyde, and AZ. His goal is to bring back the smoother side of Hip Hop. His first song/video was “Long Live the Music” which he wrote at the age of 16. Soon the video had received over 4,000 hits on YouTube in a week and TaRell TymeS had gained another level of determination. Shortly after, “MD” was released and received over 20,000 hits followed by “Long Live the Music 2” with over 7,000 hits.

In the future, he says he would like the opportunity to work with artists such as Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, and Kid Cudi. “Music is my life and I just want to rap and show the world my creativity”. He is currently working to put new projects together.

First Look: Johnny Marr – Easy Money

“Easy Money” is taken from Johnny’s forthcoming second solo album “Playland.” Available 6th October 2014.

    ABOUT JOHNNY MARR:
The early 1980s weren’t the best of times to be an aspiring guitar player. Twenty years earlier, the head of Decca records, Dick Rowe, had made the biggest A&R gaff in pop history with the legendary clanger “Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein”. But in 1982, Rowe’s apocalyptic prophecy suddenly sounded frighteningly real. After the initial roar and storm of punk, British pop music had succumbed to a synthesizer-driven pursuit of new waves and new romanticisms. In an age of Vienna’s, Tainted Love’s and Too Shy’s, the pure sound of six-stringed, melodic pop – be it as amorous as The Beatles, as lascivious as The Stones or as giddy as T.Rex – was fast becoming a lost cause with few willing to fight its corner.

That all changed with Johnny Marr.

Born in Manchester on Halloween 1963, of Irish heritage, Marr’s earliest musical memories are the get-togethers of his extended family, perhaps – as his early guitar idol Marc Bolan would sing – dancing himself out of the womb to the traditional strains of Black Velvet Band. As a child he’d be spellbound by his parents’ record collection: the forlorn dramas of Del Shannon, the prison doldrums of Johnny Cash and the heart-popping bliss of his mother’s Four Tops singles. All these influences would linger at the back of the boy Marr’s brain, waiting for the command to attack his finger tips at a later date.

That date finally came during the early summer of 1982 when Marr, just 18 years-old, formed The Smiths after seeking out the reclusive and elusive Stretford poet, Morrissey. Musically, the sound of The Smiths was a guitar noise nostalgically familiar yet equally dumbfounding in its pristine newness. The tunes were giant, euphoric and instantaneous but woven together with such nimble flair it appeared as if the guitar was playing Marr instead of the other way round. Lost for words, early critics of the day undersold him with the words “jingle” and “jangle” when, had they tried, they might better have described the sound of Johnny Marr as that of Van Gogh’s Starry Night in angry animation. Or the echo of diamonds raining down upon zinc-plated cobblestones. Or the sound of kitchen cutlery bouncing off a gaffer-taped Telecaster (which, ridiculous as it sounds, is how Marr achieved some of the resonant clangs in This Charming Man.)
