Auto Tuning or Auto Curse?

An off the grid independent media company, together with legal advisers, is contemplating a lawsuit against Britney Spears, Sony Music and Universal for theft by deception, fraud, and preventing trained musicians from making a living.

Also as subject matter for the lawsuit is market and culture-fixing and undue influence and domination of available media.

All of this came about when a disastrously tuneless production stage recording for Spears’ 2013 album went viral on the internet:

What is more, it was uncovered that record labels like Sony Music and Universal make heavy use of auto-tuning software to “fix” what is essentially bad singing.

It is also well known that Spears lip-syncs during live appearances.

The media company which is preparing the lawsuit considers the influence of stars like Britney Spears to be overwhelming thanks to multi-million dollar marketing by major record labels. But, that dominance of the media makes it difficult for young, new talent to gain recognition and success, the company argues.

On top of that, mounting evidence of a lack of musical talent from someone like Spears, who should be well trained for the studio by this stage in her career, constitutes fraud, argues the media company. For this reason, they believe the right thing to do is take legal action and aim to highlight what they believe is the real musical talent that struggles under the monopoly of the giant labels and their stars.

The company is seeking 10 % of all sales by artist whom use auto-tune for disbursement to appropriately identified music schools, and 5 million dollars in punitive damages.

More about the lawsuit will be available as the story unfolds.

Almadrava Releases New EP ’13 Years Remixed Part 1′

The composers of digital music known in Europe and abroad as Almadrava have released their latest EP record, “13 Years Remixed Part 1.” The record contains four original tracks and a bonus radio mix of “Land of Eternal Sunset” for an approximate total listening time of half an hour. “13 Years Remixed Part 1” has been published on the popular independent music label, The Jump Records. In addition to the copious talents of Almadrava, the EP also features remixes by artists Sergi Domene, Deep State of Mind, Cesar Loreshhh, and Cesar de Melero Duendeando. Part chillout, part progressive house, part traditional EDM, “13 Years Remixed Part 1” by Almadrava is some of the most culturally textured, intriguing digital music to be produced in recent years.

Almadrava cites such main artistic influences as Afterlife, Mandalay, Morcheeba, Goldfrapp, Dido, and Chicane. The crew is actually a duo who have been collaborating since the turn of the millennium, Europe’s Patricia Leidig and Pedro Toro. Toro, who shares the task of writing music with lead singer and songwriter Leidig, also lists musicians outside the EDM spectrum like ’80s pop music, Depeche Mode, Waterboys, Alan Parsons, and Supertramp.

Asked to give a short rundown of the band’s history, Toro replies, “Patricia is playing the piano since she was three years old. I’m a video director, and we needed soundtracks for some documentaries.”

Almadrava began writing music in earnest in 2001. Their original sound is steeped in the ambient subculture and this is the character they give to audiences with their first record, “Blanco y Negro.” Their official band bio describes this early offering as “Combining classic instruments with synthesizers, tradition with modernity, the beautiful with the strange, Almadrava brings the listener to a chill-out world, where every single song is important.”

The band began remixing songs for well-known and respected composers like Transfer, Jask, Information Society, Tukan, M-Black, Sunblind and De-Nuit.
Around this time, Almadrava also wrote the first musical of the air, “Dreamings.” The musical was presented in November 2002 in Motegi, Japan, to an audience of more than 55,000.

2003 saw the publication of their second album, “All You Left Us.” The record met with vast critical and fan acclaim. Their songs came to be included in more than 60 compilation CDs, such as “Café del Mar,” “Hed Kandi,” “Buddha Bar,” “Winterchill,” and “Chillout Sessions.”

There was a lull in record production for Almadrava following these hits, until they released 2010’s “Spectrum” record. Also, another year later saw the re-release of “All You Left Us,” the popularity of which had not waned in nearly a decade.

Speaking directly of their new, proud release of “13 Years Remixed Part 1,” Almadrava’s label writes, “13 years after [Almadrava’s beginning], four albums, and with their music on many main chillout compilations, they wanted to celebrate this anniversary opening their music to a selected group of friends and DJs. The result has been a group of EPs, ’13 Years Remixed’ which will be released during the second half of 2014.”

“Why celebrate 13 years?” writes Almadrava. “Why not? We are happy to be here and we hope to reach further away. It’s our will to make things good. Thirteen is an important part of the count, the one NOW. And our celebration starts with this ‘Remixed Part 1.’”

“13 Years Remixed Part 1” by Almadrava is available online worldwide. Get in early.

The single is available worldwide 23 August 2014 on his own label High Culture Recordings and Rise Artists Ltd. Benny Page notes his influences were initially drawn from his Dad’s records whilst growing up, listening to Led Zepplin, Black Sabbath to Bob Marley and Marvin Gaye. He started his musical zeal performing guitar and drums in live bands up until when he discovered Electronic music which intensified his passion to build his career as an Electronic songwriter and producer. This led to Shy FX signing Benny Page to his now legendary Digital Soundboy label kick starting his professional career with his 2006 dancefloor anthem “Turn Down The Lights”. This was followed by an array of seminal ragga jungle cuts, as well as numerous well received productions across the dance music spectrum. In just over two weeks Benny Page recorded twenty two Jamaican vocalists in what he describes as a musically insightful experience redirecting his techniques into a new sound that he is happy to be revealing. Benny Page’s main objectives on the island was to achieve a more authentic and diverse sound, managing all the studio recordings directly in a more traditional and personal songwriting process. OtherJamaican vocal legends who are set to appear on his forthcoming album include; Big Youth, Beenie Man, Spice,Popcaan and Protoje. Benny Page teamed up with Richie Loop on his first single for the Moombahton driven Hot Body Gal, a hit in Jamaica and continuing to impact worldwide leaving fans eagerly awaiting this highly anticipated follow up.

Already receiving numerous plays on national radio and media attention, Champion Sound displays Benny Page’s production techniques in a new form with his fresh 140bpm sound. The track infuses elements of Dancehall, Reggae, Breakbeat and Drum and Bass producing a high energy beat with a vibrant horn section, graced by the hard hitting vocal prowess of heavyweight Dancehall artist Assassin. Well suited for the summer festival period, Champion Sound has all the ingredients for a sort after summer anthem.

To celebrate the release of Champion Sound. Benny Page has a European launch tour and will be debuting his Benny Page LIVE single launch concert hosted by Mama Group on 11th September at the Jazz Café. The new show involves live horns, live percussion, two new MCs and visuals from Jamaica.

Chad Lawson Album Release “The Chopin Variations”

Chad Lawson has an impressive list of accomplishments in recent years that many artists could only hope for in a lifetime. He has released seven critically acclaimed albums, worked with renowned musicians and producers and has the distinguished honor of being a Steinway artist.

Born in North Carolina, Chad knew he wanted to be a musician at the age of five. He pursued this dream at age 18 when he enrolled at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. While in school, Chad began his career as a studio musician and after his studies at Berklee, he decided to go on tour with Babik Reinhardt (son of legendary jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt).

Following his stint on the road, Chad formed the Chad Lawson Trio. They released their self-titled debut album in 1997 followed by Dear Dorothy; The Oz Sessions (jazz trio arrangements of The Wizard of Oz) in 2002 and Unforeseen two years later. Taking a sabbatical from the jazz trio in 2007, Lawson went on tour in Europe and South America with Julio Iglesias as a keyboardist.

In 2009, Chad released his first solo album, Set on a Hill. The album was produced by the legendary Will Ackerman (Grammy winner/Founder of Windham Hill Records) and was voted “Album of the Year” by Whispering Solo Piano’s 1 million listeners.

2011 was a year of overachievement for Chad as he generated two albums and one single. The Piano was released in October to rave reviews and also awarded, “Classical Album of the Year” by SoloPiano.com. In August 2011, Chad offered Song of Prayer, a 32-minute improvisational single. This musical masterpiece provided the perfect soundtrack for introspective reflection and meditation. He ended the year with the full-length, A Solo Piano Christmas, featuring his renditions of classic Christmas songs. Reviews New Age proclaimed, “Superb! 5 out of 5 stars.”

The Space Between, released in 2013, is Chad’s latest effort. The album hit #12 on Amazon’s Adult Alternative Chart which is an impressive feat for an independent release. Named by CDBaby as an Editor’s Pick, The Space Between is also being recognized internationally on premier music podcast RTVE, the NPR equivalent in Spain, where “I Wish I Knew” and “A Love is Born” is on their playlist.

Four songs from The Space Between can also be heard on “Echoes,” a nightly melodious soundscape featuring ambient and down-tempo music that is broadcast on over 120 public radio stations across the United States. The host, John Diliberto, an award-winning radio producer and music writer, has earned the reputation of only playing groundbreaking music and rarely selects pianist tracks for his program. By adding, “I Know a Love so Fair and True,” “A Love is Born,” “Falling Together” and a cover of Band of Horses’ “No One’s Gonna Love You” to the “Echoes” song rotation, this highly influential tastemaker reaffirms the artistic significance of Chad Lawson and his works.

Chad’s music has been played on NPR, Delta Airlines flights and in Starbucks coffee shops. Television shows (Dawson’s Creek, MTV’s Teen Mom 2), movies (DoughBoys, Plimpton!) and commercials (Bacardi, Relais Chateaux upscale boutique hotels) have also utilized his works. The Notebook, an upcoming Broadway musical where Chad was brought on to arrange and notate the show’s musical pieces.

While working as a keyboardist with an artist on Sony Records, the late and legendary music producer Phil Ramone told celebrated music director Jack Douglas, “You have an amazing keyboard player. “ It was an unforgettable compliment that Chad still cherishes to this day.

Chad Lawson is a master musician and artist extraordinaire. This brilliance is evident in his gifted original compositions and his exceptional interpretations of the beloved classics.

Meet Peter Pahor: Creator of Another Destiny Project

    Peter Pahor
    Peter Pahor

Peter Pahor, creator of Another Destiny Project and the Road to Destiny global recording project, will start his new show, Road to Destiny, on JammerStream One September 1st at 12 and 12 US Eastern and will be simulcast on the other JammerStream stations throughout the week (times to be determined) with his new cohost, Carshenah Jefferson.

We here at Jammer Direct thought it was time you got to know Peter Pahor, the mind behind the project.

    FROM PETER:
When i finished high school my mother asked me a question: “What do you want to do with your life?” I answered: “I wanna play guitar“. after that answer (and the screams of my mother) I decided to pack my stuff and go away from my home. Lonely but full of passion I started to play in local bands and at the same time study at the local university and work in a factory… but despite all that good times I was spending playing I felt that i was missing something.. I had to find my right dimension, my right way to express my creativity! I had a lot ideas about writing music.. but people didn’t have the same passion about music that I had. so I started to produce my first songs and I liked it too much. after that experience i understood that be a music producer were what I was searching for me. the composition, the sounds, the technology, the feelings etc… all the things I always loved all together! create music to share with the world is simply amazing and give me the force to wake up in the morning.

    MUSIC:
I don’t know how to describe exactly what I want to do or I want create. I think my inspiration is connected on my big passion of travels, movies and books. my artistic creations are very different one with each other and I don’t have one specific genre where I can put myself. I grew up with a lot influences… from black metal concerts to Ibiza’s discotheque. From playing in the streets of Spain as a busker to composing music for commercial spots. I’m against to give a label to art. I think the only way to understand something in music is listen it without prejudice.

    ANOTHER DESTINY PROJECT:
Another Destiny Project is an experimental project where different artists of the world are featured to create the music. It’s a very cool thing believe me!!! Check it out on www.anotherdestinyproject.com

First Listen: Teenage Wildlife – Most Beautiful Thing

    photo-(2)

Although John Wright has been making music “forever”, it was through his career in film making and photography, regularly working with world famous musicians, that he received the encouragement he needed to launch his own project: TEENAGE WILDLIFE.

‘Most Beautiful Thing’ is the AA side to Teenage Wildlife’s ‘The Last Great Love Affair’, a track that has received national airplay and critical acclaim across the UK and beyond.

Speaking about his latest release, John says “Most Beautiful Thing is about the procession of emotions that a person experiences when they know they are losing someone. The realisation that the person has chosen a direction that excludes you. The sense of loss that comes with the moment of realisation. The repeating vocal symbolises the obsessive way we get stuck, unable to process what’s happening to us emotionally, how we just sit staring at the same broken picture. The uplifting chorus represents the occasional euphoria one feels when remembering shared good times and the sense of absurdity we experience when considering that the relationship is now over. The song started as a mid tempo guitar and drums ballad but evolved, as all my tracks seem to, into something else.”

Based in Shoreditch and citing influences such as Van Morrison and Curtis Mayfield, John is a multi-instrumentalist who plays and records drums, bass, guitar and keys. Merging these traditional sounds with ideas sketched on mobile devices and blending samples to create shimmering sonic backdrops across an impressive range of genres, John’s back catalogue boasts impressive examples of hip hop, dance and melodic dub. All his material is recorded in his attic studio where he produces and masters his own work, gathering fans through social networking.

Although John has created tracks that have appeared on fashion films for Fendi and Dior as well as working photographically with Louis Vuitton, Dior, GQ, Vanity Fair and Sony Music, it’s his background that remains a driving force. “I had a pretty rough upbringing” he explains. “I think the term is ‘underprivileged’. I designed Teenage Wildlife as a vehicle to express myself musically and to use funds I raise through it to support charities that help underprivileged young people.”

Teenage Wildlife’s ‘The Last Great Love Affair’ and AA side ‘Most Beautiful Thing’ are released on Monday September 1st.

    Naylor’s Notes: Maximus

    Naylor’s Notes:
This group of musicians are more than just musicians. They are a family that interact with as many fans as they can, in every show they play. They will hang out with you even after the doors are locked. One of my favorite songs they cover is Britney Spears: Baby One More Time. You may think that’s funny but check it out and watch how they have re-invented the song. Since I usually introduce original artists I have to feature their up & coming single Boomstick (Acoustic)

    Blackie Starks – Lead Vocals/Guitar
    Ryan Runyon – Guitar
    Adam Zemanek – Drums
    Robb Morello – Guitar/Bass

    About Maximus:
Members of the band Maximus, were friends long before a band was even thought of. Blackie, played shows with Robb Morello, in the Kansas City area when their bands would share the stage as well as Ryan Runyon, and Adam Zemanek, in Iowa. Often times after the shows, Blackie, Ryan, and Adam would hang out, write, and realized an instant chemistry. As it turned out Adam and Robb, had even shared the bill a time or too long before meeting Blackie.

When the time came to form Maximus, the guys needed a bassist with the same talent and vision, and Robb stepped up immediately. Robb, actually fills a duel role as bassist, and additional guitarist for studio acoustic performances.

Adam and Ryan packed up their belongings and made the trek across three states to move in with Blackie, and they immediately began writing.

Within a weeks time, almost an entire albums worth of music was finished (in the shed). Then Show offers, some national dates, and a tour with a well known touring band was offered.

The members in Maximus have always been touted as the most approachable guys at shows, and it carries over into the band. “We love to play, anytime, anywhere, for anyone.” -Blackie

    SHOW DATES:
9/5/2014 – Roxy Bar – Night Club (Overland, KS)

Cool Jazz at Martinis with Iconic Jazz Headliners!

Two powerhouse acts are continuing a series of intimate Jazz shows scheduled this year and next at Martinis Above Fourth Table + Stage in San Diego, CA. Janis Segal of the Manhattan Transfer kicked off the year in high gear to an appreciative and packed house at MA4. The two upcoming acts are critically-acclaimed as well as audience favorites. On Thursday, August 21, Mark Winkler, platinum award-winning jazz vocalist/lyricist performs with Cheryl Bentyne, member of The Manhattan Transfer, and sparks fly. This duo is intent on proving how cool the West Coast Cool Jazz scene of the 50s still is. Together and separately they perform songs by Dave Brubeck, Chet Baker, Julie London and Bobby Troup (to name a few); all the while, weaving never before heard stories of the original cast of “West Coast Cool” throughout the evening. Betty Bryant, affectionately known as Cool Miss B, always connects with the material and with her audience as she performs blues, jazz and originals with a light swingy touch, torchy passion and elegantly whimsical good humor on Thursday, August 28. Tickets, available at www.martinisabovefourth.com, are priced at $20 for West Coast Cool and $25 for Premier Seating and $20 for Reserved Seating for Bryant.

Regarding the West Coast Cool show, prepare yourself for an audience full of swinging their stir sticks out of a dry martini or two, and plenty of great entertainment. This show is definitely a hit! The duo routinely performs throughout the country, where they are greeted with sold-out houses and standing ovations.

The SHOW was off the charts! I can honestly say it was the best jazz show I have ever experienced. . .” – Chris Loudon, Jazz Times

CHERYL BENTYNE has been a member of the 9 time Grammy-winning group The Manhattan Transfer since 1979. Bentyne’s beautiful voice, wide range, versatility, and impressive stage presence made her a major asset for the popular vocal group from the start. Her recently released album, Let’s Misbehave: The Cole Porter Songbook, has been recognized by many as the jazz album of the year. Bentyne not only delivers the music of Cole Porter as no one else can, sprinkled throughout the show are love letters written by Cole Porter himself. The audiences are delighted as Bentyne receives standing ovations.

Sharper than a shark skin suit lapel, and swinging harder than a hammer thrower, singers Cheryl (Manhattan Transfer) Bentyne and Mark Winkler delivered a red hot tribute to West Coast Cool… I dig” – George W. Harris, Jazz Weekly

MARK WINKLER has released 11 CDs in the US and is currently in the studio working on more CDs. His 11th CD, released in August 2011, was named as one of the top 5 jazz CDs of the year by Jazz Times magazine. It went high on the Jazz Week charts and got great reviews from over 26 critics including The Seattle Times, Don Heckman and All About Jazz. It featured a duet between him and vocalist supreme Barbara Morrison, as well as such A-list musicians as Billy Childs, Anthony Wilson, Bob Sheppard and Grant Geissman.

BETTY BRYANT has performed internationally in the Middle East and Brazil, and for many years was a popular regular attraction at the upscale Tableaux Lounge in Tokyo, Japan. She had a long-term engagement at celebrity chef Susan Feniger’s exciting new restaurant “Street” in Hollywood in 2009, and in 2012 she was a featured performer at the Boquete Jazz and Blues Festival in Boquete, Panama. The “Betty Bryant Birthday Bash” is a hugely popular annual event in Hollywood, and has been presented at the famed “Catalina’s Jazz Club.”

“Bryant’s steady, rolling, soulful musical sprees are always textured with ideal measures of torchy passion, elegantly whimsical good humor and traces of KC’s uncut, communicative blues sensibility.” – Jonny Whiteside, LA Weekly

The next offering in the Jazz Series at MA4 is Juno Award-nominated jazz piano/singing artist Carol Welsman in “Reflections of Peggy Lee” slated for Thursday, November 13 at 8:00 PM.

    J. Michael Harter, Launches Career As Solo Artist

    J. Michael Harter, former member of the brother-sister trio, The Harters, is in the midst of launching his career as a solo artist with debut single, “Holy Cowgirl.” The single is Harter’s first release from his forthcoming EP, Ride On, which will be released on GMV Nashville/Anozira Records Sept 30, 2014. The single has been released to radio and is now available for sale on iTunes and other major digital retailers.

A dance remix for “Holy Cowgirl” has also been created and is being distributed by Nashville-based venue marketing company Marco Club Connection to Country nightclubs across the country. The song is already receiving positive feedback and airplay in venues across the United States.

    J. Michael Harter, Scott Harter, Earl Bud Lee, Scott Laurent, and Bruce Wallace co-wrote the up-tempo party song during a songwriting retreat in Alaska.

    J. Michael commented about the day the song came to life, “I had the title in my phone for years and often brought the idea up when I’d do co-writes, but I had a hard time getting people to understand where I was going with it. While brainstorming for ideas with my co-writers at our retreat in Alaska, I thought, what the heck maybe they would get it. At first when I said the title, they were all silent, pondering what I’d just said. Scott Laurent laughed and said, ‘You mean like a really religious Cowgirl?’ I said no man, but that’s funny! I mean like you see a woman all dolled up in tight jeans and boots and you think, Holy Cow Girl!!! At that moment, Bruce Wallace started playing that very infectious guitar hook and the song came to life.”

A Tempe, Ariz. native, Harter’s music blends up-beat Country melodies with profound lyrics and a unique Western flair.

Harter most recently recorded with The Harters, which was made up of himself, his brother, Scott, and sister, Leslie. J. Michael’s forthcoming EP, co-written and produced by his brother Scott, contains some of the most special and refreshing music he’s ever written.

Of the new music, Harter says, “I am striving to be part of the pendulum swinging the other way to lyrically driven songs that would make you cry, laugh, or make you remember something that touches your heart.”

For more information about J. Michael Harter, view his website at www.JMichaelHarter.com and follow him on Facebook and Twitter.

    ABOUT J. MICHAEL HARTER:
Tempe, Ariz. native J. Michael Harter is no stranger to the music business. After a run in the sibling trio The Harters, J. Michael Harter is now releasing music as a solo artist. Citing influences such as Garth Brooks, George Strait, Clint Black and Alan Jackson, Harter’s music contains lyrics about real life relationships, experiences and struggles. Harter, a blue-collar, hard working “man’s man” credits much of his songwriting to the close relationship he has with his brother, Scott. Their strong relationship has produced some of the best music J. Michael believes he’s ever recorded. In addition to having co-writes with his brother featured on the project, Scott Harter is also credited for producing the EP. The music will soon be heard and available on Harter’s new EP titled, Ride On, which will be released later this year on iTunes and other major digital retailers. Harter just released his new single, titled “Holy Cowgirl” to Country radio and dance clubs across the country. For more information about J. Si Cranstoun set to release new album ‘Modern Life’

Si Cranstoun has been acclaimed by Bobby Brooks Wilson (son of Jackie) as “sounding so much like my father it scares me”.Si spent years struggling to make ends meet. He busked for years on the streets of London performing for passer-bys – including the then PM Tony Blair, who gave him 30 pence! Si was eventually spotted busking and landed his long sought-after break; a recording deal with music giants Warner Music UK’s label East West.

Now the singer-songwriter,and king of the vintagescene will follow his Radio 2 A-listed single ‘Caught in the Moonlight’ with his debut album ‘Modern Life’ which will be released onOctober 13th. He will follow the album’s release by playing a special headline show at London’s Borderline on October 14th. Tickets are available here: http://gigst.rs/SiCran.

Si Cranstoun possesses a vocal talent that has been compared to the likes of Jackie Wilson and Sam Cooke, while his music offers an uplifting blend of northern soul, Motown and vintage pop. Brilliantly capturing the look and feel of soul’s golden era, Si Cranstoun exudes of all the energy and verve you would expect from the best of the genre. Chris Evans recently described him as combining “A squeeze of The Bee Gees, a bit of Billy Joel, a dash of Dean Freidman, and a ripple of Rodriguez.”

Pre-orders for the album will commence at iTunes and Amazon on August 8th, with the new single ‘Dance For Evermore’ available as an instant grat track.

A classy throwback to the classic sound of the early sixties, ‘Caught In The Moonlight’ success at Radio 2 was an astonishing achievement from an artist who had never previously released a song on a major label. Cranstoun wrote the song with the legendary Tony Macauley of The Foundations ‘Build Me Up Buttercup’ fame. So far, Cranstoun has earned radio support from Radio 2, Magic and BBC London, and has been featured in the Daily Mail and the Daily Star, as well as appearing on BBC London News TV.

As the release of his debut album approaches, Si Cranstoun is confirmed to appear on Chris Evans’s BBC Radio 2 Breakfast show on August 8th to an estimated audience of 9 million people. He will also be performing a number of live gigs in the UK and Europe to celebrate the upcoming album release including Lounge on the Farm, The Bluesfest at The Royal Albert Hall and the massive London event Proms in the Park for Radio 2.

Another Destiny Project Is Not Only Music.

    Dear Friends!

As you know one of the main idea of this project is to give exposure to musicians. The way to do this is featuring them on music of the Another Destiny Project’s album.

Anyway an album doesn’t have only the music… The artwork, the lyrics, the graphics etc… are also part of an album.

And beyond this the video clips that can give exposure to the music or the promotion!

What I want to say is that Another Destiny Project can give space also to artists that want to become part of the project but aren’t musicians. The new album can be a good way to gain exposure and in the same time support something new, alternative, experimental and original!

So if you are a photographer, a painter, a poet, a director etc… (or you know someone that it is) And you think (and I know you think 🙂 ) the Another Destiny Project is a good idea… Join the project!!

Don’t be shy! Go to www.anotherdestinyproject.com/newalbum and send me a message with some words about you and some links to watch your works. Can’t wait to check them and work all together 😉

Folk Duo The Civil Wars Have Officially Split

The Civil Wars—made up of duo partners Joy Williams and John Paul White—have regretfully decided to permanently part ways. The difficult decision ends a tumultuous period for the four-time Grammy Award-winning band, who has been on indefinite hiatus since late 2012. As a thank you gift and farewell, the band is offering a download of their rendition of “You Are My Sunshine.” Recorded in 2010, the track was originally released in 2011 as a b-side to the band’s limited edition Barton Hollow 7” vinyl. This is the first time the song has been available digitally in the U.S. Both Joy and John Paul have added their personal words on disbanding here below. Joy Williams comments, “I am saddened and disappointed by the ending of this duo, to say the very least. JP is a tremendous musician, and I will always be grateful for the music we were able to create together.

I sincerely hope that ‘You Are My Sunshine’ will be accepted as a token of my gratitude for every single person that has supported our duo throughout the years. I’m so thankful and my heart is full. Looking ahead, I’m excited to share the music that I am writing and recording in the midst of this difficult transition. I’ve loved being back in the studio, and have missed performing live. I look forward to seeing you soon.” John Paul adds, “I would like to express sincere thanks to all who were a part of the arc of The Civil Wars—from the beginning, to the end, and all points in between. My deep appreciation goes out to all who supported, disseminated, and enjoyed the music. Whatever shape or form the next chapter takes, thanks for being a large part of this one.
