Sunday Honey have released their new single titled ‘Seven Five Zero’. With alternative long being the mainstream, Sunday Honey breathe new life into the genre with a fresh take and a, well, alternative outlook.
With almost a retro styled flair in the hook and a nostalgic ambiance, Sunday Honey give a unique and soft anthemic dive into a catchy guitar-driven track that combines the grit of Dinosaur Jr. with a slight gaze and a subtle smirk.
About Sunday Honey
Sunday Honey are a four piece alternative-rock band based on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, Australia. Consisting of members Elliott Willis (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Fox DeRoche (drums, vocals), Max Hilli (bass guitar) and Callum Johnson (lead guitar), the emerging quartet combine their shared love for old fashioned rock ‘n’ roll with a modern, enhanced twist, also described as ‘honey soul’ by the outfit.
Having burst onto the scene with the release of their debut single ‘Old Mate Bill’ earlier this year, the band have exploded in their homeland, playing iconic venues such as The Leadbeaster Hotel and Evelyn Hotel, and a sold out show at Hotel Esplanade. A band who have clearly gained quite a following already in their short time on the live circuit, Sunday Honey are clearly dazzling with their infectious and enjoyable dosage of alternative indie rock.
Radio plays on renowned station Double J also transpired the group, as they now close off the year with indie shoegaze anthem ‘seven five zero’. Full of quirky guitars and a euphoric chorus, this highly catchy sophomore single perfectly encapsulates Sunday Honey. Switching from a light hearted shoegaze filled verse to a heavier, much grungier chorus instrumentally with Willis’ and Fox’s vocals shining through and easily cutting through the big sound that these four have created.
The band says “the track is about getting away from life and going to travel and experience new things. We want people to know that there’s more to life than just the same few bars.” Sunday Honey certainly channels this energy into an melancholic indie-rock offering that for many fans of indie and beyond, will be impossible to ignore. This band are certainly destined to be one of the hottest prospects to come out of Australia in 2023, and ‘seven five zero’ is the example of that.
