The Shameless have just premiered their new video for the track titled ‘Chic Jesus’, releasing this Friday (March 14th) from their upcoming album ‘Prayers After Dark’, dropping April 9th.
The Shameless are quickly making a name for themselves within the global indie community, and rightfully so. Quasi soulful, and almost downright sexy in spots, ‘Chic Jesus’ is a subtle pure expirmentation in the art of a song. Swapping genres throughout, the song almost sounds like parts of three different decades, all colliding and none boring in the least.
While the video is a simple overall collaborative piece that compliments the song, there is a marriage of visuals with the audio that gives the song a stylish quality beyond the hook. Almost like a soundtrack to a short film or a visual companion to an epic lounge track.

About The Shameless & ‘Chic Jesus’
Three and a half years after their previous Love Condemnation, the Ragusa band The Shameless is back, perhaps the only Italian band to propose, with style and elegance, a sound close to names like Gallon Drunk, Grinderman, Tindersticks, between rock, blues, gospel, and jazz.
‘Chic Jesus’, to be released on March 14th, 2025, is the single that anticipates the new album Prayers After Dark, available digitally and on CD from April 9th, for the historic Seahorse Recordings of Paolo Messere with Audioglobe distribution.
Chic Jesus is a theatrical piece, that opens with the a cappella voice of Ippolito Nicolini intoning a freak prayer, almost a work song, which then strengthens and grows on trellises of guitars, piano, and brass instruments, between wings of fallen angels, cigarette smoke and alcohol.
The video, simple but very effective in playing with the double stage/screen level and with chiaroscuro, was shot by Silvia Criscione at the Cine Teatro Lumiere in Ragusa.
Prayers after Dark was conceived between the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2025, recorded at Pausa Studio in Modica (Ragusa), and includes six unreleased songs and the covers of Straight to You by Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds and Can’t Escape Myself by Sound. The sound is more mature, less baroque, and romantic than the previous one, but certainly more disenchanted and visceral.
The Shameless were born in Ragusa, on the South East coast of Sicily, in October 2016.
The line-up features:
- Ippolito Nicolini (vocals, guitar, piano, percussions)
- Gianpaolo Cassarino (bass, keyboard, violin, synth)
- Alberto Difalco (drums)
- Gaetano Scribano (guitar, bass)
- Giuliano Spataro (guitar, ukulele, banjo)
Despite their Mediterranean origin, their sound is akin to the elegance of Jack, Tindersticks, Gallon Drunk, not forgetting Nick Cave’s ballads, with lush orchestration and neat songwriting, kidnapping the audience into a world of burning candles, black velvet, piano dissonant chords.
The five members musical background range from No Wave to Shoegaze and all of them had previous experiences with other bands, like Charme and Crackers. This graces The Shameless with a distinctive balance between the chamber pop élan and darkwave composure.
“Blossoms”, The Shameless’ first album, was released in May 2018, receiving positive feedback from the Italian press and radio.
Love Condemnation, released September 2021, introduces The Shameless to an international audience, with several great reviews from high-profile websites such as Jammerzine and Its Psychedelic Baby Mag and radio airplay.
The sound moves forward from the darkwave of its beginnings, searching for the perfect chemistry between style and emotions, in the footsteps of songwriters such as Leonard Cohen, Piano Magic, The Walker Brothers, and Cousteau.
