Prog supergroup Three Tonne Deep’s debut single TIME is released today through MGM Distribution. To celebrate the single being available for purchase at iTunes, they have released the animated filmclip for the prog-rock debut. As an added bonus, drummer Scott Davey has also made the drum charts available for free download.

The animation by Nicole Pickering based on the concept of a man going through the motions and becoming more and more numb and unconscious from daily routine, breaking then waking and choosing not to wish his life away.

Three Tonne Deep is a supercell of storms meeting at an epic apex. It is out of the ordinary that a supergroup forms in Australia, but that is what a crack team of prog music commandos has done. The band have joined forces to produce a debut single entitled ‘Time’ (along with a filmclip), which will be the first of a handful of singles to be released this year through MGM Distribution, in preparation for an album and live shows in 2016.

Three Tonne Deep is Forbes McKail (Rook, The Khyber Belt), Clint Vincent (Dead Letter Circus, Melodyssey), Scott Davey (ex-Dead Letter Circus, Mr Hyde) and Govinda Doyle (Producer on ARIA Award-Winning and Hottest 100 winning track Angus and Julia Stone’s Big Jet Plane).

Together, they have a pedigree in Australia that is almost unmatched – ignoring the bands that they are in or have been in, the members of Three Tonne Deep have shared the stage with the world’s biggest and best – The Butterfly Effect, Cog, Fair to Midland, Periphery, Karnivool, Suicidal Tendencies, Alice in Chains, Shihad, Mammal, Full Scale, Birds of Tokyo, Helmet and Evanescence. They have toured the world and their bands have signed major and independent record deals domestically and internationally.

‘Time’ is the first single from the 4-piece – and it’s a masterclass in prog and alternative rock. The band and ultimately, the song came about when Scott Davey moved to Sydney to study Indian rhythms with tabla master Maharshi Raval. In 2014 he recorded drums for Siddhartha Banerjee, a renowned Veena player from India and decided to start applying his odd time influences that he had developed through Indian music to heavier progressive sounds. Three Tonne Deep formed when he began working with old friend Govinda Doyle in the studio.

The track is a 4:15 odyssey through time signatures, bold production, intriguing percussion, mesmerising vocals and signature guitar tones. From the highest peaks of hard vocals to streams of delay-soaked guitar melodies and through the valleys of humming bass, ‘Time’ is a prog-rock masterpiece for the new age.
