‘Do You Want It All?’ is the first single released from Tommy’s forthcoming EP, which is due for release later this year. The dreamy psych rock track also premiered with globally renowned tastemaker CLASH Magazine. Additionally, his single ‘Mrs Blue’, off his 2024 album 21st Century Living, has amassed over 5.7 million streams on Spotify alone, earning him support from the likes of NOTION, Earmilk, Radio X, RTÉ 2XM, NPR – including a loyal following, which cemented his reputation as a rising talent in soulful music.
Tommy Down is a Camden-based artist who has worked with acclaimed producers such as Grammy-nominated hitmakers Jon Shave and Jason Pebworth of Invisible Men, as well as Jeffrey Silverman. He has performed at events like Camden Rocks Festival, headlined by Frank Turner. Notably, Tommy has had six of his songs featured in just as many episodes across all three seasons of HBO’s hit drama series Industry, co-created by his brother Mickey Down.
Tommy Down’s journey began at fourteen, combining influences from jazz, rock, and soul. Tommy’s musical roots run deep, with his grandfather singing for WWII troops. A former member of the Bristol-based jazz band BUJO that toured Europe, he later returned to London to produce a soul album. Tommy continues to perform across London, blending his rich UK-Ghanaian heritage with a passion for storytelling through music.
Known for his raw, heart-centred performances reminiscent of Paolo Nutini and Tame Impala, he draws inspiration from a wide array of artists, including Marvin Gaye, Mazzy Star, Radiohead, Oasis, Blur, David Bowie, and Michael Kiwanuka, to name but a few. Now taking the reins and producing his music and performing live with a backing band, his forthcoming EP promises a psychedelic rock and soul fusion inspired by Radiohead and Mitski.
The Live Studio Sessions video features Tommy alongside a live band, composed of Aaron Dolby on bass, Tom Wardle on guitar, and Jack Purbrick on the drums. In the striking 5-minute video, Tommy Down holds nothing back, as he gently tugs on the viewer’s heart strings with his poignant, no-fuss, no-frills performance. Filmed by Louid Hudd, the video kicks off with what feels like exclusive behind-the-scenes footage of a studio practice session. It then shifts to a black and white shot of Tommy and the band as they begin their performance.
Tommy’s crisp, haunting vocals glide with ease and warmth over the symphony of guitar chords, bass, and drums, immersing the viewer deeper with every note. Tommy Down’s passion and unfiltered authenticity radiate powerfully in the video and are showcased further with monochrome close-up shots of him interspersed throughout.
Tommy revealed: “The song draws from some Radiohead tracks like ‘Creep’ but with a shoegazery spin to it. Mazzy Star is also an inspiration. The lyrics are about maintaining your soul and morals in your pursuit of gaining all your worldly possessions and acclaim. Managed to get a Bob Marley quote in there ‘Live for yourself and live in vain, but live for others and you will live again.”
