Jammerzine has an exclusive interview with Terence Hannum of the band Locrian. Locrian is a band that takes experimentation to new extremes and have totally defined a sound all their own. With their new album titled ‘End Terrain’, the band returns refreshed and renewed with a keen sense of self and soul. A beautifully intricate mix of dark metal noise and drone rock, amongst other things found here and there, as well as the world as inspiration, Locrian have truly made, not found, a niche within the annuls of cool rock.
Having just gotten off a tour supporting ‘End Terrain’, Terrance talks with us from the road to those final two dates about ‘End Terrain’ about the album, tour and much more.
About Locrian
The trio of LOCRIAN, comprised of André Foisy (Albany), Terence Hannum (Baltimore), and Steven Hess (Chicago), has garnered critical acclaim for their innovative approach to heavy music. As Marc Masters of Pitchfork noted, “Plenty of bands play music that sounds dark, but few can make every note bleed black and breathe smoke. Count Locrian as part of that select circle.”
Lars Gotrich of NPR praised the group stating that “Locrian always wants to show us something new – or at least rearrange the context of what heavy means, or even what sound means,” and Jamie Ludwig of Noisey applauded the group for “masterfully conjuring and destroying alternate universes through music” with each of their releases providing “challenging sonic adventures and evocative perspectives on the physical state of the world around us.”
