Annemarie Jo is a very versatile singer-songwriter from the Detroit, MI. area, who’s music features songs from various genres including pop, rock, alternative and soul. She has a new single, “Cherry on Top”, out now, that resonates with her listeners with its catchy melodies, memorable hook and strong vocals.
Annemarie Jo says, “‘Cherry on Top’, is all about the reality of adult friendships. At one time, our group of girls would be hanging out at least three times a week. Now, I’m lucky if I see them once a month. With this particular friend who inspired this song, I felt distance growing, and although unintentional, felt like I was being ignored and forgotten about. Hangouts would be canceled, my phone calls would be ignored, and I felt like I was losing her.”
Annemarie Jo enjoys writing about a variety of things. Her emotion-evoking music is inspired by things that are going on in her life. Whether it be a relationship, anxiety, happy time or a hardship she is going though, her music says it all.
In addition to working on her new single in the studio, Annemarie Jo is currently writing and finishing up a couple of more songs from home. She says, “The two songs at home that I am currently working on started from the lyrics being written first, which is not my normal writing process. When lyrics come first rather than melody or chords, I find it harder to portray the sound the way I want it to. So, although difficult, I am determined to get the lyrics into a finished song.”
Annemarie Jo continues to play 4-5 shows a week and looks forward to getting more music out to the masses. She is also trying to survive her busiest summer yet with lots of new gigs and festivals this year, which she is so grateful for.
