Charlotte Morris has today released her new single titled ‘Raised by a Woman’, from her upcoming album ‘Both Sides’, which is scheduled to arrive in May, 2025. While I’m admitted not much of a Country music fan, I have to admit an attraction and admiration to Charlotte’s music, style, and new track, ‘Raised by a Woman’.
With a slight innocence and flair within the music, Charlotte takes a time old brand of music and returns it to a modernized form in the style of the old school troubadours of the day and makes a solid addition to the music of this decade.
About ‘Raised by a Woman’
Rooted in the spirit of empowering women, “Raised by a Woman” showcases an appreciation for female strength and sacrifice. Charlotte Morris demonstrates her impressive ability as a songwriter with her carefully crafted ensemble of instruments that blend well with her rich vocals. “As politicians try to strip away women’s rights, some folks could use a good reminder (and maybe a kick in the ass) about where they came from and the women who got them there,” Morris explains. Mixed by Bryce Roberts, the track also features David Flint on the guitar, Chris Nohl on the keyboard, Dave Spicher on bass, Billy Thomas on drums and background vocals, and Charlotte Morris herself on the violin.
Charlotte Morris, a versatile multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter from the Philadelphia area, found her love for music early on. She mastered several instruments and developed her songwriting skills, eventually joining the folk concert tour Lonesome Traveler in 2018, just before releasing her debut EP, To New York, with Love. Over the years, Morris has toured widely, released a series of singles and EPs, and relocated to Nashville, where she continued creating deeply personal music. Her second studio album, Wild Child, released in 2023, received international acclaim and significant radio play. In 2024, she completed a 30-city tour and, after returning to Philadelphia, is gearing up for the release of her next album, Both Sides.
About Charlotte Morris
Growing up outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Charlotte Morris discovered her passion for music at a young age. After starting violin lessons at the age of 4, Charlotte taught herself how to play the guitar, piano (and melodica), ukulele, banjo, acoustic bass guitar, and mandolin, and began taking her songwriting seriously by the age of 12. Describing her unique style as genuine, raw, and emotional music with a purpose, Charlotte takes inspiration from female-driven artists like Delta Rae, Brandi Carlile, Sara Bareilles, Liz Longley, Maren Morris, and The Chicks.
In January 2018, Charlotte joined Lonesome Traveler – a concert tour that performed the history of folk music, starting with Woody Guthrie and ending with songs by the likes of Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell. Charlotte released her debut EP To New York, with Love in June 2018 and has since released a number of singles and another five-song EP (produced by Nashville-based Mitch Dane) entitled Sputnik. In 2019, Charlotte embarked on her first fully-acoustic tour, performing in over fifteen different cities across the US. She released her first full-length album, Songs For My Next Ex, in December 2020.
After moving to Nashville in 2021, Charlotte released “Good Kind of Hurt”, a deeply personal song about addiction and PTSD, in June 2022, with the hope of spurring more conversation around the difficulties and misunderstandings of mental illness. She followed up that success with her nostalgia-filled, folk-driven, single “Tennessee”, and then, “Your Number One”, a driving song of empowerment. All of these singles led up to the release of Wild Child, Charlotte’s 2nd studio album, which took the industry by storm in September 2023. The album, personal, vulnerable, and authentic, has impacted listeners worldwide; from live television and radio performances to extensive radio play in the Netherlands, Canada, and more, the album serves as an example of just how powerful music can be.
In the Spring of 2024, Charlotte hit the road for a 30-city international tour, wowing audiences with her captivating stage presence and conversational show dynamic. While on the road, Charlotte came to the realization that it was time to return to her roots and head back to Philadelphia. Back on the East Coast, with another album on the way and her eyes already on the next tour, it’s clear things are just getting started for this rising artist.
When the singer-songwriter is not writing or releasing music, she travels across the country in her converted van with her pup and is an avid crossword puzzler.
