Dagger Polyester has today dropped their debut album titled ‘Perversion For Profit’ via Silver Arrow Records. Produced by Chris Robinson (The Black Crowes), Dagger Polyester is one of those illustrious and provocative projects that comes out of the gate running and never lets up. From track one to the last, the style is vast, and the originality is as seamless as it is transitional. This is an artist who has truly found their sound and has a vision on how to execute it.
‘Perversion For Profit’, while well under my consideration for ‘Best Of 2025’, there is a lot more here than meets the ear. A lot more. There is a substance I seldom hear anymore in independent music. And a demand to listen and not merely hear. This is a concept for the conceptual. This is an album for those looking for a journey and not merely another favorite artist or band. It goes beyond all of the left and right turns with hooks and choices of outside-of-the-box instrumentation. It becomes guttural, natural, and in your heart while around your head. This is new music in it’s truest form.
About ‘Perversion For Profit’
Produced by Rock And Roll Hall Of Famer Chris Robinson (of The Black Crowes) and tracked at the legendary Sunset Sound studios in LA, Perversion For Profit is a relentlessly ambitious debut that sees Polyester’s sardonic sneer awash in the punk theatricality of their heroes Patti Smith, Suicide, Roxy Music, and Talking Heads. While sonically rooted in the sounds of the past, the LP is a timely commentary on the pressing issues of our age, and it’s a pleasure to observe one of rock’s bold new talents spread their wings in real-time.
Effortlessly fusing the jagged, angular attack of post punk with new wave synths and the subtle funk of mid-70s Young Americans-era Bowie, Perversion For Profit features riotous blasts of pure punk rock (“We Stand On The Shoulders Of Giants”), warped disco breakdowns (“Conversion Therapy”), Sade-meets-Ziggy Stardust singalongs (“Spin”), and Chic-indebted ruminations on societal ruin (“The Tower”) amongst the record’s exhilarating 9 tracks. Embodying a different character with each song, Polyester theatrically attacks the state of commercialized queerness, the rising threat of fascist autocracy, homophobia, sexism, capitalism, and the often tragic outcomes of the pursuit of fame.
Perversion For Profit was previewed by the release of advanced singles “Conversion Therapy”, “She Kissed The Gun”, and “Father Panik”. Released earlier this year, “Conversion Therapy” aims to raise transphobia, while “She Kissed The Gun” uses the tragic death of Lana Clarkson to illustrate the dangers of the pursuit of fame. Released in July, “Father Panik” is a propulsive glam rock exploration of personal ads, limerence, and the state of modern romance.
