Hushtones has today released their new video for the track titled ‘Paper Flowers’. A hook filled marvel to behold, with lyrics to make you cry set to music to make you dance, ‘Paper Flowers’ feels like a bright celebration of rejection amid reflection of life lessons and deflection of the punches those lessons give you.
Taken with a grain of salt and a spoonful of sugar, Hushtones give us a clarity with the audacity of good music and the freshness of an original song.
About Hushtones
Supported by BBC Radio 1 and BBC 6music Hushtones are an indie-pop band from Liverpool known for their unique male-female harmonies, heartfelt songwriting, and captivating live performances. Fronted by dynamic songwriting duo Martha and Mick, along with bandmates Caitlin, Abe, and Joe, Hushtones have earned a loyal following with their distinctive male-female vocal harmonies.
Their sound has been described as “dreamy Scouse barbershop with guitars,” a unique mix that has drawn comparisons to the likes of Fleetwood Mac, but with a fresh, modern twist. Following the success of their debut album Greetings From The Other Side, it led to support slots for renowned acts such as Red Rum Club, Tim Burgess, and She Drew The Gun with more dates TBA for early 2025.
Speaking of the new single they say, “‘Paper Flowers’ is a song about dealing with rejection and loneliness, and how brutal those things can feel. But as with all of the songs we write, we’ve developed this one into a fun and uplifting pop banger. The core of this song was written quietly at home, but when we brought it to the practice room and all played it together it became something much more powerful. It gave us actual goosebumps! It’s now the song we always choose to close our show with.”
Vocalists Martha and Mick met while treading water in Liverpool’s hospitality scene and they soon realized their shared love of songwriting and decided to collaborate. The rest of the band soon fell into place through a combination of open mic nights, pub sessions, and the vibrant local music scene that they now proudly represent.
Produced by the legendary Steve Levine (known for his work with Culture Club and The Beach Boys), ‘Paper Flowers’ is the start of a lead to a bigger project TBA soon. The band’s love of harmony-rich artists like Kate Bush, The Beatles, and more modernly, Flyte is evident, yet they’ve carved out a sound that’s entirely their own, and distinctly Liverpudlian.
