Nick Capaldi is a UK singer/songwriter whose debut single hit the Amazon Hot New Release list within a week of release and remained in the Top 20 Best Selling New Release list for five weeks. With Radio 2’s Bob Harris a big fan, and a track from his debut EP making a highly acclaimed appearance on the MOJO ‘Songs In The Key of Paul’ album, it’s fair to say that Nick Capaldi is one of the UK’s hottest rising musicians. Now for 2017, Nick Capaldi makes an impressive return with the release of his new single ‘Disgrace Face’ on 10 March, with his new album ‘Neon Heart’, hot on its heels on 19 May; proving that when it comes to innovative rock/pop, Capaldi is producing probably the freshest, most relevant sound on our musically creative shores.
Punching its musical weight with a vibrant, dynamic, highly polished, Bowie-esque pop/rock vibe, ‘Disgrace Face’ steps up boldly as the first single plucked from the forthcoming album. Depicting a tale of social-awkwardness, ‘Disgrace Face’ paints of vivid picture of a round peg in a square hole. What it’s like to not fully fit in, with the only solution being to move on and start again.
Capaldi’s music is unique. Tinged with a delicious influential fusion of Ryan Adams, The Beatles, The Kinks and The Beach Boys, his sound delivers a strong melodic cocktail of poignant, straight to the point, retro pop/rock songs. Shrink-wrapping x12 stand-alone, single-worthy, tracks within one mighty collection, the forthcoming album, ‘Neon Heart’ traverses the listener through a semi-autobiographical musical journey of Capaldi’s most heart-felt experiences; sprinkled with some quirky left-ball ideas for a dash of added excitement. The album title was inspired by his love for 80’s movies and the iconic neon artwork of that era – the name, the look and the entire feel of ‘Neon Heart’ came from that passion.
As you embark on an incredible journey through ‘Neon Heart’, you’ll quickly realise that Capaldi likes melodies to be bouncy and positive. Delivering most of the album instrumentals himself (bass guitar, piano, harmonica), as well as self production at his own studios in Dorset, with mixing by Tim Hamill at Sonic One Studios in Wales; and releasing the album through his own Grinning Dog Records label, has enabled Capaldi to create a sound which aligns on-point with his true vision of a pioneering musical direction.
Bristol born, Nick Capaldi, wasn’t into music much – until, at the age of 14, he heard Blur’s ‘Parklife’ – BANG! he was instantly hooked. He learnt to play the guitar, began writing music and by the age of 16 Nick was playing across pubs in Weymouth, setting up his first band, Emphasis, in 2000. The band won a string of competitions, including the Wessex FM ‘Battle of the Bands’ and the Weymouth Pavillions’ ‘Best Local Band’ Award. A fortuitous blossoming friendship with Bob Harris led to the Radio 2 DJ writing the sleeve notes on Nick’s debut EP. which was entitled ‘The Golden Summer’. Nick’s follow up EP, ‘Lover’s Leap’, was produced by Brendon Benson from The Raconteurs and recorded in Nashville. ‘Lover’s Leap’ was recorded in just two days and garnered high media acclaim. The track, ‘In My Shoes’ grabbed the interest of Bob Harris, who invited Nick up for a live session and the fourth track on the EP ‘First of the Runaways’ was selected for a special MOJO Paul McCartney album called ‘Songs In the Key of Paul’.
Now for 2017, Nick Capaldi releases his highly awaited follow up album, ‘Neon Heart’ which is jam-packed with a string of potential stand-alone singles, all of which blend together to create what could potentially be the best rock pop album this year.
