Julia Jade – (extra)ordinary

    Julia Jade
    Julia Jade

Known for her open-hearted songwriting and catchy melodies, “involuntary twee” singer-songwriter Julia Jade emerges with her (extra)ordinary EP, an expanded collection including previously released singles “missin’ out” and title track “(extra)ordinary.” Exploring all of the awkwardness of growing up and the challenges and feats of living authentically, this seven-track project is an introspective and empowering record with Julia Jade’s signature theatrical finesse. (extra)ordinary is out now on digital streaming platforms worldwide.

Featuring vocals and piano by Julia Jade throughout the EP, (extra)ordinary chronicles the changing perspectives, fears, and goals shaping her outlook on life today over the past 10 years. From first relationships to favorite movies, (extra)ordinary is described by Julia Jade as “a time capsule and an embodiment of my definition of love and my philosophy around life and how it has evolved over the course of the last 10 years.” The EP opens with “Nobody Knows,” where Julia Jade’s cinematic vocals meet an isolated piano, capturing a message of certainty in moments of loneliness and solitude. “‘nobody knows’ is the adult introvert in me that has become at peace with being misunderstood by some, knowing that I am understood by those who matter to me,” explains Julia Jade. Following is “(extra)ordinary,” a sentimental yet grounded reflection on love that doesn’t need to be new and shiny to be, well, extraordinary.

Released alongside a The Office-inspired music video in late 2024, the track features strings by Oleh Mytrofanov, mixing by Brad Fillatre, and mastering by Stephen Trischitta. Its upbeat arrangements and feel-good melodies showcase the larger, buoyant sound of the record. The previously released “missin’ out” comes next, a song Julia Jade wrote at 19 while feeling both awe-inspired and overwhelmed, shaping it around how self-doubt can push you toward greater heights. “Not Optimistic,” featuring additional vocals by Daniel Markus, channels the eagerness and thrill of first loves, focused on the wide-eyed girl Julia Jade was in her first relationship. “ex’s bday,” with guitar and bass by Ivan Krnic and drums by Shannon McArthur, reflects on past experiences—keeping the good, leaving the bad—delivered with Julia Jade’s signature witty edge. “let’s call this what it is (live)” follows, a track she calls her “magnum opus,” explaining it as “the evolution of a relationship that could have been if I had refused to notice what was wrong.” Closing the album is “xoxo charlie,” an instrumental outro with Sufjan Stevens–esque cinematic layering of piano, violin, cello, and clarinet. “‘xoxo, charlie’ is the soundtrack in my head and heart that plays when I think about how pure it is to come of age, to know people, and to get to live this wild and precious life,” says Julia Jade.

Born and raised in a music and comedy-filled home in LA, Julia Jade was immersed in creativity and entertainment from a young age. Channeling the indie and twee pop of the early 2000s and 2010s, she draws comparisons to artists like Ingrid Michaelson, Rilo Kiley, and Bo Burnham, while infusing her work with modern flair and a background in musical theater. Skipping the 11th grade to attend Berklee College of Music after auditioning with her original song “February Flowers,” she honed her distinctive balance of alt-pop sensibilities, theatrical storytelling, and authentically quirky charm.

Her music has been touted by press outlets like Earmilk, Buzzbands LA, and LGBTQ Music Chart. Beyond her solo work, she created and continues to produce and headline the bi-monthly pajama-themed music series Slumber Party Sessions at The Hotel Cafe in Hollywood, underscoring her commitment to inclusion, community, and celebrating individuality.

    About Julia Jade

Julia Jade is an LA-based singer-songwriter known for her heartfelt lyrics and catchy melodies. Having lived in the music scenes of Boston, Nashville, and Los Angeles, Julia brings a unique blend of storytelling and musicality to the indie pop genre. A graduate of Berklee College of Music, Julia crafts songs that give voice to universal truths and resonate deeply with her fans. Often drawing comparisons to artists like Ingrid Michaelson, Rilo Kiley, Regina Spektor, The Weepies, and even Bo Burnham, she weaves a tapestry of love, loss, friendship, and simple joys that reflect her beliefs, passions, and humor, from pop culture to social justice. Her latest release, “extra(ordinary)” is a meditation on how the little drudgeries of life (sitting in traffic, going to the DMV, doing taxes!) become magical experiences when shared with someone you truly love. The accompanying music video is an homage to the Jim + Pam relationship from “The Office,” replete with nods and Easter Eggs that Office fans love.

Beyond her solo work, Julia also curates and headlines the popular, bi-monthly, pajama-themed music series, “Slumber Party Sessions,” at The Hotel Cafe in Hollywood, which has become a staple of Hollywood nightlife three years running. With a mantra of, “you’re always invited,” the series encourages a come-one, come-all vibe of intimacy, inclusion, and connection between artists and audiences.

    Benya Stewart – About Oblivion

    Benya Stewart
    Benya Stewart

Benya Stewart has today released his new album titled ‘About Oblivion’. Having spent much of his recent past in Ukraine and seeing firsthand some of the things that have been going on there, Benya takes inspiration into motion in his evolution of revolution with ten songs of resilience and the importance of music to both the mind and the spirit.

There is no way I can accurately or effectively write about the war in Ukraine. I’m as distant in experience as I am in mileage. I’ve heard from people who write better than I that our best selves are found at the edge of the abyss. To say the Ukrainians are heroes is something not only always said but also can’t be said enough. Based on that, I feel that ‘About Oblivion’ is a set of ten timestamps. Moments in time lived, learned, loved, lost, and sometimes, left. Benya feels like the perfect person to convey what is being conveyed in ‘About Oblivion’.

“Something I’ve learned during my time in Ukraine is that music, and the arts generally, are anything but trivial. Anyone who thinks so has not been subjected to tragedy. In times of war, music can function like the backbone of the people’s spirit; I see this reality every day. I’ve never experienced so many powerful moments of groups of friends and strangers joined together in song. Through this strange time and place, I have received the unspeakably strong insight that music is an indispensable tool for the survival of a soul in duress.

“About Oblivion” is a snapshot of the last year and a half of exploring Ukraine together, seeing the grief and challenge and richness and connection with people of all stripes who live in the shadow of war. It is a snapshot of our lives as artists making art, despite air alarms, drone and missile attacks, and the loss of so much precious life.”
    Benya Stewart

    About Benya Stewart

My name is Benya Stewart, and I’m a singer/songwriter from the hills of southeastern Ohio. In a strange twist of fate, I found myself pulled towards Ukraine several years before Russia’s full-scale invasion. Now I’ve wound up living in Kyiv, working as a teacher for two years now, and building a musical career across the pond.

The new album “About Oblivion” will capture a lot of the energy that has been swirling about these last few years: it’s about love lost, the grief and cruelty of war, and an attempt to maintain some humanity in a world hellbent on depriving us of it.

“About Oblivion” is the first release from me and my partner, Olha Sterneichuk. Olha, or “Helga Stern,” as is her online moniker, is a Ukrainian folk singer from a small town located between Kyiv and Odesa. The land down there is a bit like the American Great Plains—rich and fertile, but very quiet, and the flatness stretches on for what seems like an eternity. She grew up singing with her grandmother in a church setting, and singing has provided her a lot of comfort and refuge over the course of her life.

To me, our sound falls into the category of indie-folk. In many ways, it is a classic, timeless sound: male and female vocals mixing over the top of an acoustic guitar, and a cello filling in the voids with a rich wash of emotion. We have attempted to create something graceful and sensitive, made with careful attention to detail tempered by a desire for something raw and unfiltered.

Our duo has been very influenced by the fact that we’ve already performed all over Ukraine, at small festivals, at mental health retreats, at bars and restaurants, at residency centers in the mountains, and even in the south and east, closer to active combat, where we’ve performed for kids in shelters and for recovering veterans.

About Oblivion features the boundless creativity of Volo Bedzvin, a cellist based in Lviv, Ukraine. Volo works as a studio musician for many different groups and singers, and is himself a songwriter and composer, and audio engineer to boot.

I’ve been performing with Volo ever since my first trip to Lviv in January 2020. He is an incredibly intuitive musician and artist, and his cello feels more like a third voice than a second instrument. While he’s not a permanent member of our band, given certain technical difficulties of living in different cities, he’s an integral part of our musical life and project, and we are so lucky that he joined us for this project.

The seed of all this was to give myself time and space to explore my own songwriting, and to build up my own repertoire of folk and original songs. After many years of performing in different folk bands and collaborations (Hill Spirits, Chivalrous Crickets, and the Sandy Tar Stringband), moving to Kyiv gave me a great opportunity to explore solo performance. And, in so doing, I began to receive great feedback—at least enough to encourage myself to dust off some of my songs that had been waiting for their time.

But performing with others—the interaction between two or more creative minds—this is really the special magic to me, and something to which I’m happily addicted. Even though there’s something beautiful and pragmatic about the life of a solo musician, it felt lonely and exposed. I wanted to find someone I could sing with, someone with whom I could craft intricate harmonies and sing with both power and sensitivity.

Our story is that we met at a traditional singing event here in Ukraine, in the Poltava region east of Kyiv. Ukrainians have an incredibly rich tradition of folk singing, and our shared passion for this ancient, precious repertoire is something that connected us immediately.

At the root of our sound is the merging and mixture of two very different traditions: those of the Appalachian foothills and the central plains of Ukraine. We both came to our own traditions pretty late—just as we were turning 20 or so—so we both had already been steeping in other sorts of sounds.

Since beginning the project, Olha and I have gone on nearly thirty small tours around Ukraine. We have a ritual of walking twenty minutes to the train station from our apartment, sometimes at the crack of dawn, sometimes late at night, to catch a sleeper train.

Last June, we went on a weeklong tour of de-occupied Ukraine, meaning the region that Russian troops were fully expelled from in the summer of 2023. The people there are still recovering, of course, and the land and villages are all deeply wounded. We organized the whole tour in partnership with a non-profit based in Kharkiv, and brought along an up-and-coming Ukrainian band called Pyrig I Batig. Together we went on a “de-occupation tour” of this region, performing for the civilians in small towns, and sharing many hugs and tears.

    Serious Child – First Tattoo

Serious Child has today premiered the new video for the track titled ‘First Tattoo’, from their upcoming album ‘What Lies Beneath’, dropping November 7th. Serious Child, aka Alan Young, has a quirkiness about him that fits well and summarizes his music. ‘First Tattoo’ has that slight bit of fun and earnestness about it amid a solid, slow burn of a rhythm that surrounds his crooning vocals.

While the lyrics are tongue-in-cheek and filled with global influence, it’s his use of obscure instrumentation to help carry the hook that keeps me listening. This song is a slow build-up to a conclusion that is given to the mind of the listener amid a sweet jungle of original orchestral sounds and a voice that embeds in the music as much as it becomes memorable.

    About Serious Child

Hailing from an old wood in West Sussex, Young draws from a wide range of influences to explore the world around us with a poet’s ear for emotion and a comedian’s eye for everyday detail.

For the new record, Young has drawn from a wide range of sources of inspiration, from Tony Harrison’s sonnet “Book Ends”, to Rob McFarlane’s brilliant book “Underland” and the Georgian traditional lullaby “Iavnana”. The album sees him joined by classical composer and violinist, David Grubb, bass clarinettist, Anna Perry, vocalist and touring partner My Girl The River, and long-time collaborator and producer Chris Pepper.

‘What Lies Beneath’ is a collection of musical stories about what’s underneath the surface of our everyday lives, from a woman quietly riding the bus all day to keep warm, to the prickle of fear exploring an ancient burial chamber, and to the joy of a midlife tattoo on the album’s first single ‘First Tattoo’.

In finest pop tradition, ‘First Tattoo’ is literally a three-chord song, centred around a nursery rhyme riff, but played on a kalimba (thumb piano), with loads of lovely texture and interplay from Annie Perry on bass clarinet and David Grubb on violin. “I wanted to write something simple and joyful, without a care in the world”, explains Young. “On vocals, it was a family affair, with daughter Rosa providing backing a-ha’s in addition to My Girl, The River, and partner Kate donating her laugh at the whole silliness of it all. And yes, I am getting a tattoo”, he further adds.

Young’s previous albums have consistently attracted four and five-star reviews, and his last full album, 2021’s ‘Talk About The Weather’ (with Andy Ruddy) was shortlisted for Fatea Album of the Year. His most recent project was a charity EP for Save Ukraine, with whom his brother Dave worked as an emergency relief driver. ‘First Tattoo’ signals a new era for Serious Child and serves as a delicious taster of the highly anticipated album to come. The accompanying video for the single sees Young in Brighton, pondering whether he may or may not be too old or too uncool to get his first tattoo. Young sees and chats to many awesomely inked people on his way to a tattoo parlour where the employees help him finish the song in a glorious finale.

    Mieko Shimizu – Breathe Out

Mieko Shimizu has today premiered her video for the title track of her new EP, also released today, titled ‘Breathe Out’ via Street Records. Mieko is an artist who shows how important and relevant experimentation is within the creative process. Like a black heart in the white noise, Mieko Shimizu shines with the light of a true explorer within the global avant-garde scene.

a bridge between the ether and the ethereal, silhouette meets the sonic in an iconic mix of dystopia, ecstasy, and utter despair. Leaving much to the imagination, ‘Breathe Out’ means what it means only to you. Forever. This is the beauty and the curse of this type of music. You are not the critic, but the muse. The mind that leaves in wondering and wonder at what you just felt. And now the music is yours.

    About ‘Breathe Out’

Mieko Shimizu returns with a powerful new EP, ‘Breathe Out’, released on 5th September 2025. A boldly nonconformist Japanese singer, songwriter, composer, and producer, Shimizu uses the EP to build on the success of her acclaimed album ‘My Tentacles’, which drew praise from Electronic Sound magazine and airplay on BBC Radio 6.

The new EP features two immersive tracks that showcase her signature blend of emotional depth and sonic experimentation. Dropping alongside a visually arresting music video by diz_qo, this project invites listeners on an immersive journey of texture, movement, and atmosphere, reaffirming Mieko Shimizu’s place as a pioneering force in avant-garde music.

‘Breathe Out’ echoes the light and sound that rise from the horizon, where humanity meets the boundless realms of gods and spirits, the veil between the earthly and the divine. Emerging as a sonic meditation in motion, ‘Breathe Out’ is a two-track EP that drifts between serenity and momentum. The ‘Breathe Out’ EP brings together two distinct yet complementary tracks that showcase Mieko Shimizu’s ability to create emotionally resonant, finely detailed music.

The title track, ‘Breathe Out’, unfolds with airy atmospheres, delicate sample percussion, and fast-moving flute melodies that weave like rushing wind through open space, creating a sense of release and expansion. Its counterpart, ‘Breathe In’, draws the listener inward, mirroring the first track’s fluid energy but with a more introspective pull, evoking the quiet rhythm of breath cycling back into the body. Together, the EP captures a dynamic tension between stillness and movement, offering an ambient journey that feels alive, transient, and deeply human, highlighting Mieko Shimizu’s unique artistic prowess.

Speaking on the release, Mieko Shimizu shares, “In Breathe Out, I wanted to echo the light and sound that rise from the horizon, where humanity meets the boundless realms of gods and spirits, the veil between the earthly and the divine.”

The Modbeats – Ballad of a Starving Artist

    The Modbeats
    The Modbeats

The Modbeats have released their debut LP titled ‘Ballad of a Starving Artist’, dropping today (September 5th) via Mayleen Records. This is an album that feels right. Released at the right time to an audience that needs to hear a set of songs that go back to the roots of what modern music is, or was, with variety and flair amid catchy hooks and solid riffs. Written by Philip Dunn, the music underscores the live presence and persona of The Modbeats, as well as what to expect from one of their shows.

‘Ballad of a Starving Artist’ is everything I’ve expected from The Modbeats since my interview with Philip Dunn earlier this summer. The buildup was not disappointing. I knew there was going to be a lot of musical variety and lyrical poetry abound throughout, but what surprised me was some of the directions they took and when. The title track, for example, segways right into a straight rocker in ‘Rocking Chair’. ‘Fairweather Friends’ caused me to contemplate as I tapped my foot. ‘The Passer-Bye’ is a musing play on words as much as it is a theme to a future memory. I could go on, but I don’t want to spoil it.

But what I can’t spoil is that ‘Ballad of a Starving Artist’ is a feast for the ears and a solid thought for a starving mind.

About ‘Ballad of a Starving Artist’

What began in 2023 as a modest plan to record two or three original songs quickly evolved into a full-fledged band and concept album. Written and composed by frontman Philip Dunn, the record was shaped around the titular track, originally inspired by a friend pursuing a career in film in Los Angeles, and grew into something far more expansive. “A kind of defiance in the face of so many obstacles—creative, personal, societal—became the heartbeat of the album. And the more I listened back, the more I found myself in these songs too.” From the jangly heartbreak of “Fairweather Friends” to the stomping glam of “Hold Me Roll Me” and the philosophical haze of “The Passers-Bye,” Ballad of a Starving Artist threads together stories of hope, disillusionment, youthful escape, and artistic identity. The track “Frankie,” a cinematic rock ’n’ roll joyride drenched in retro surf energy, serves as the final single before the album’s release and captures the carefree rebellion that underscores much of the band’s sound. Meanwhile, “The Setting Sons” offers Eastern-tinged textures and a power-pop punch, evoking icons like Jeff Beck and The Jam while reflecting on the madness of modernity. Driven by a central question: Is there still room for real music and great art in today’s world? The record offers no easy answers. Instead, it invites listeners to dance, question, and feel something real. “In the lateness of the hour, some still yearn for the pure sonic bliss of rock n roll,” Dunn muses. “We’re just here to turn it up loud and pose the questions.”

Throughout the album, Dunn is joined by Joe Mandia (guitar), Scott Matison (bass), and Fizz (drums), a lineup that channels the rawness of early garage bands with the colorful complexity of classic British invasion rock. The group recorded the album at Lake House Studio in Asbury Park, NJ, with engineering by Nick Semanchik and guest features by Bryan Haring of The Gaslight Anthem. The band notes that while the songs can be played in any order, the album was designed with vinyl in mind, a nod to the analog warmth and storytelling arc of classic LPs.

    About The Modbeats

The Modbeats are a high-voltage four-piece made up of Philip Dunn (vocals, guitar), Scott Matison (bass), Fizz (drums), and Joe Mandia (guitar), breathing new life into classic rock through a bold blend of surf, jangle-pop, blues, rockabilly, and psychedelia. Since forming in 2023, the band has carved out a distinct space in the modern rock scene with their music, which has been featured on WXPN’s Power Pop Extravaganza and received praise from outlets like The Philadelphia Inquirer, Rock at Night, Grimy Goods, and Powerpopaholic.

Their electrifying live shows and unmistakable sonic identity also earned them a coveted spot on Music Connection’s Hot 100 Live Unsigned Artists and Bands of 2024.

    Scenius – Five-Arm Crystal

Scenius has today released their new video and single titled ‘Five-Arm Crystal’, from their upcoming album ’13 Billion Dark Years’, dropping September 12th on CD and October 24th via streaming.

Electronica with a dash of brash and pop shows the creative strokes and originality brought forth by master musicians in tune with their hearts and in touch with their music. This is what Scenius is, to me. A pair of musicians who have long ago found their sound and make it their own. Accessible and relatable. Filled in its own world. Outside of the box and inside the virtual VIP lounge we all see ourselves in.

    About ‘Five-Arm Crystal’

Five-Arm Crystal is one of Scenius’ most urgent tracks yet — an upper-tempo pulse driven by a snarling, riff-like synth bass that could have been lifted from a distorted guitar.

Punctuated with heavy filtered breaks, its restless groove builds towards a bridge where the voice turns sharper, the tone more cutting.
In nature, snow crystals always form with six arms. A five-arm crystal is not supposed to exist. Part science oddity, part emotional storm, the track is about chasing something that you know is a myth, but chasing it still feels like there’s no better thing to do.

    Saint Avangeline – Limerence

Ethereal singer-songwriter Saint Avangeline (79.63 million total streams on Spotify, 2.3 million monthly Spotify listeners, 5.35 billion streams on TikTok) unveiled her new single + video, “Limerence.” Achingly beautiful and hauntingly cinematic, the track unfurls like a fever dream – both seductive and devastating. Bathing listeners in ghostly melodies and tender vocals, themes of deadly devotion and love entwined with ruin take center stage, capturing the intoxicating pull between desire and destruction.

Saint Avangeline says, “I feel hazy listening to it. Dreamlike state. Written in a bad time of my life, and so my subconscious wrote it. The lyrics were written at a Starbucks in 2022 – I thought I was writing a love song, but I was in an abusive relationship.”

Saint Avangeline will also be hitting the road this October, performing in Los Angeles on October 19 at The Roxy and New York City on October 26 at The Meadows.

    About Saint Avangeline

Saint Avangeline is a lesbian, Atlanta-based independent artist who merges ethereal sounds with raw and unfiltered vocals, crafting a striking contrast that mirrors the depths of human emotion. Deeply rooted in her journey with mental health, domestic abuse and growing up queer, her songs offer an honest exploration of inner turmoil, rage, hope, and resilience. “Most songs are like a diary for me,” she explains. “Exploring my mental health struggles. Trauma, intense feelings. Like sucking the poison out.”

“Inspiration is fueled by an intense emotion that I cannot shake,” Saint Avangeline continues. “Lyrics are written in a stream of consciousness within a very short sitting, 20 minutes. The composition and vocals are not different, and usually are completed within a day. I have chromesthesia, and all of my songs work within a color palette in my head. These upcoming releases all have a nostalgic yearning, but in the order they are written, they go from this place of dreamland delusion, to starting to wake up to having a hazy recollection, to facing the future and having genuine change, eyes open.”

Over the course of her explosive career, Saint Avangeline has amassed millions of rabid fans, earning over 56 million streams on Spotify on her single “Lilith” off her debut album Gardener of Eden (2022), which also gained over 67 million streams. In 2023, she released the song “Every Girl Gets Her Wish” – a cover of the unreleased Lana Del Ray track, “Every Man Gets His Wish” – which has gained over 13 million streams. Following that, Saint Avangeline released her sophomore album, Inferno, in 2024. Now, she is excited to return with a string of new releases, with more on the way this year.

Dave Pemberton and Liam Croker – You’re Not The Only One

    Dave Pemberton and Liam Corker

    1. You’re Not The Only One Dave Pemberton and Liam Corker 04:14

Dave Pemberton and Liam Croker (WINACHI) have today released their new collaboration titled ‘You’re Not The Only One’ along with their new video.

Treading new ground for a pair of artists with such calibre in their own rights, there is solitude in the fact that their reputations are secure with a solid piece of sonic art that delves into new territories for both, and hints of extravaganza and grandiosity within the hook.

A solemn ode to those who survive the shit that life throws you, ‘You’re Not The Only One’ is a comforting hand on your shoulder with rich harmonies and glorious melodies that mean as much to the heart as it does to the ears.

Musically, this is a stellar pop song with global tinges and world appeal. The hook is a monster, and the lyrics ride atop the wave the music provides, giving a marriage of music and melody that remains with you long after that first listen.

About ‘You’re Not The Only One’

A cinematic blend of soul, funk, and psych-pop, “You’re Not The Only One” is the compelling new collaboration between critically acclaimed WINACHI frontman Liam Croker and Grammy-nominated producer Dave Pemberton (Kinobe, The Prodigy, Groove Armada). The track is a rich, emotional statement of hope and resilience, wrapped in warm electric piano, sun-drenched acoustic guitars, and a bold, swaggering horn section.

The song builds with unexpected textures—live percussion and trippy synth atmospheres—before opening into a euphoric, anthemic final chorus. It’s a cathartic, hands-in-the-air moment, grounded by Croker’s magnetic vocal performance and lifted by lush backing harmonies from Christy Bellis.

A perfect sync candidate for uplifting or redemptive scenes in film/TV, or for listeners craving something that hits the heart and the hips.

    Azam Ali – To Pieces

Azam Ali has today released her new video and single titled ‘To Pieces,’ from her upcoming album ‘Synesthesia,’ dropping November 14, 2025, via COP International.

Coming off as more of an experience than a song or video, ‘To Pieces’ contemplates with a cinematic panache and as much of a feeling as a sound. This is music at a guttural level. Taking everything that a sound or note could ever be and filtering that through everything human. Tribal at the core and venerable around the edges, ‘To Pieces’ is an emotion matched with an enigma that only you can find the answer to, and that answer is interpretable only to you. This is the power and penchant of the perfect music: mayhem guised as a muse.

As I listen and watch, I feel like something is being added to my soul. Is what that is or what that could be up to me, or is it tepid inspiration? I realize then that this is what the best music does: it leaves the result and realization up to me. What I am moved by is the existence of this in the world and how it found me. It takes me in and lets me live, then leaves me be. A little fuller and a little more creative.

    About ‘To Pieces’

“It is a song of destruction, of fire consuming everything in its path, yet within that annihilation lies the threshold of renewal, and the promise of something new,” explains internationally beloved singer/songwriter/producer Azam Ali about her new single “To Pieces”.

Taken from her upcoming album, Synesthesia, which will be released on November 14, 2025, “To Pieces” is a gorgeously aural landscape of echoing strings, cinematic keyboard washes, and tribal percussion, with Azam’s ethereal vocals floating above it all like a luminescent specter.

The first single released through her new label COP International (home of The Cassandra Complex, Stabbing Westward, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry), “To Pieces” is a visceral ceremony of sorts, creating a musical backdrop for Azam’s highly stylized vocal prowess. “This is perhaps the most raw and visceral piece on the album,” she explains. “As I was creating it, I kept envisioning a primal scene: the wilderness at night beneath a blood-red moon, fire crackling, and the untamed spirit of something breaking free. At its core, the song speaks of betrayal; the betrayal we inflict upon one another as human beings, and the ruthless betrayal of nature itself, which devours without mercy or distinction.”

Like her critically-hailed previous album, Phantoms (2019), Synesthesia was written, performed, and produced by Azam and is her second all-English album. Her groundbreaking uniqueness in a genre dominated by male artists has been one of the touchstones of her career, as one of the few female electronic artists. She creates a textured tapestry that defies genre and definition by incorporating elements of electro, ethnic, post-punk, classical, and avant-garde into her music.

    About Azam Ali & ‘Synesthesia’

Deeply layered both musically and lyrically, her sixth solo album, Synesthesia, is an escape from this tumultuous world, but not without the impact of the cultural and political upheaval. Named after the sensory phenomenon that allows individuals to experience the senses differently, such as tasting colors or feeling sounds, “Synesthesia” is a concept that runs throughout the album. The title track’s accelerating beat contrasts with Azam’s wispy vocals, generating a neural response that is comforting yet daunting. “This song is very special for me because I tried to capture what the sense of synesthesia that I experience is, the way my senses sometimes overlap, blending sound, color, and texture into a single, immersive perception.” The gauzy and delicate “Autumn of Goodbye” offers a softer and radiant ambiance with Azam holding onto the final moments before letting go (Walk with me / Under the sky / And offer me / The stars / On the way down). Synesthesia also offers two eye-opening covers: Tim Buckley’s “Song to the Siren” and Natalie Merchant’s “This House Is On Fire.” The former is a moody take on the original, highlighting Azam’s octave-jumping vocal prowess, while the latter transforms Merchant’s languid calypso beat into a propulsive song with Middle Eastern flourishes.

“My music is an invitation to step beyond the confines of time, place, and the fragile vessel of flesh into a universe without borders,” Azam explains. “I want the listener to feel carried into the vastness of the ethereal, where freedom breathes, and every note reveals our part in a greater design. In this realm, we are no longer solitary beings, but shining stars drawn together into galaxies, each tone a reminder that we are participants in a cosmic symphony far larger than ourselves.”

As a citizen of the world (she was born in Iran, raised in India, and now based in Los Angeles), Azam can’t help but be vocally in tune with the events unfolding in the U.S. as well as the Middle East. “Society often expects artists to remain silent on politics, as though our only duty were to create beauty untouched by the world’s wounds,” she says. “Yet history shows otherwise. Artists have always stood at the frontlines of social and political transformation. My own life has been shaped by war, displacement, and the relentless weight of politics, realities that cannot be separated from my art. How could such experiences not weave themselves into my music, when the essence of art is honesty of expression?”

Described by Billboard as “enchanting,” Azam has had her share of praise across the board. Echoes describes her voice as “a sultry, sensual instrument that has probably launched thousands of love affairs, as her voice caresses melodies the way a lover caresses a body,” while Trip hop mastermind DJ Spooky called her “an ethereal, beautiful voice from the edge of tomorrow. Think about traditional music vocals, updated for the digital age. Add Bjork, Portishead, Maggie Rogers, and stir.” A storied musician has received two Canadian JUNO Award nominations and one HMMA (Hollywood Music in Media Award) for her bold artistry. Azam’s music isn’t focused only on recordings as a solo artist and part of Niyaz.

She has collaborated either in-studio or on stage with Serj Tankian of System of a Down, Peter Murphy of Bauhaus, The Crystal Method, Mickey Hart, among many others. She’s contributed to film and television soundtracks, working with some of Hollywood’s most renowned composers. Some select film titles in her resume include John Wick: Chapter 4, John Wick: Chapter 3 Parabelum, Thor: Dark World, Sandman, Matrix Revolutions, 300, John Carter, Fight Club, Dawn of the Dead, True Blood, Alias, The Agency, and Prison Break. She is also a well-known musical force in the video game world. A cross section of titles she’s contributed to includes Uncharted 3, Call of Duty, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, Darksiders, and Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow, for which she won “Best Original Song” at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards in 2007.

Regardless of the accolades and credits, Azam Ali remains an artist wanting to change the world. “With each album, I aspire to delve ever deeper, refining the language of my expression, elevating it toward greater sophistication, clarity, and emotional resonance,” she concludes. “The music that moves me most is music that transports, music that does more than produce sound, but creates a space in which reality itself seems to shift and expand. In this space, the boundaries between what we see, hear, and feel dissolve, and the listener is invited to step fully into an altered sensory landscape. Through this work, I seek to evoke both wonder and disorientation, offering glimpses of the extraordinary ways the world can be experienced when the senses converge and perception itself becomes fluid.”

The Man From Delmonte – Believe Me

After 35 years away, Manchester indie legends The Man From Delmonte are back playing live shows and releasing a brand-new album ‘Better Things’ in November, with its first taster, the fabulously hooky single ‘Believe Me’ backed by B-side ‘The International’ out now.

Between 1988 and 1991, TMFD weren’t part of any music scene. They were their own movement, sounding nothing like anyone else at the time. Selling out 3000 capacity venues, hitting the top of the Indie charts, and having Inspiral Carpets and 808 State as their opening acts. Mike West, Sheila Seal, Martin Vincent, and Howard Goody delivered classic pop tunes, including ‘Water in My Eyes’ and ‘My Love is Like a Gift’, that were lyrically ahead of their time. Mike wrote and sang about loving men just as easily as he did about relationships with women. The audience always loved it. The press often treated them with outright biphobia.

After a chance conversation with TV presenter Iain Lee, The Man From Delmonte is back. Their first reunion gig at Band on the Wall sold out in 12 minutes. Their following show at Manchester Academy 2 sold out in days. Over 600 copies of a double CD reissue of the band’s two albums ‘Big Noise’ & ‘Good Things in Life’ have been bought by fans desperate to get their hands on anything TMFD related.

‘Who knew that we had such AMAZING fans that had been listening to TMFD all through those years and would want us to come back and play live!” exclaims bassist Sheila Seal. ‘Someone said to me: you go into a Man From Delmonte gig in your fifties and come out in your teens’, she further adds.

Original manager Jon Ronson (The Psychopath Test, The Men Who Stare at Goats) flew over from the US to introduce them at the first reunion show, and comedian Chris Addison was seen dancing on stage with the band. The band’s upcoming show at the O2 Ritz on December 21st is the biggest gig of the reunion and will be a double celebration. It’s 36 years since they last played it, and it will also be the launch party for the brand-new studio album, which sees The Man From Delmonte back and better than ever!

‘When the idea of putting down a new set of recordings was suggested to me, being me, I wasn’t sure if I liked it, ’ explains drummer Howard Goody. ‘We got together at Our Lady studio and right from the start it was a pure delight, mainly due to Mike’s super recording engineering skills, and in 4 1/2 days we recorded 12 songs. It all felt so natural and relaxed, playing as a band. For me, it was stress and anxiety-free – I couldn’t believe how good it all felt and sounded. I think we have made a really good and honest record of us playing and singing without any fanciful studio production tricks, he further adds.

The songs on the new album are a selection of old and new material. Some tracks, including the band’s new single ‘Believe Me’, were rediscovered on forgotten demos and live cassettes that, fortunately, friends and fans of the band had kept hold of for all these years. Other songs were written long after the band broke up, but somehow seem to relate to the same time and place. There are also three songs on the album that were written just a few weeks before the recording, including ‘The International’, a eulogy to frontman Mike West’s favourite rock club of all time, and the B-Side to ‘Believe Me’.

Tomás Doncker & The True Groove All-Stars – Hard Is Hard + Tour Dates

Tomás Doncker & The True Groove All-Stars
Tomás Doncker & The True Groove All-Stars

Tomás Doncker & The True Groove All-Stars have today released their new album titled ‘Hard Is Hard’ via True Groove Records. While the true groove is truly present, there is much more going on between the notes and beneath the rhythm. There is substance. Something there that makes you stay beyond the ‘oh wow’ factor. That certain something that gravitates as it elevates.

Tomás has long ago solidified his place in the annals of indie, but this is an evolution. A ‘next step’. The opener, ‘Do Or Die, Pt. 1’, is the perfect gateway drug that invites and entices you to stay for the rest of the album. While the horns fill the room, the groove fills the air and permeates your soul with, well, soul.

Tracks like ‘Life Without Drama’ slow the mood at just the right time, slowing the motion and pumping up the grind. Sonically sensual and filling your mind with color, tracks like these find their fit in the perfect order and become the journey your creative heart needs.

    About ‘Hard Is Hard’

Tomás Doncker has long been a prime mover in the New York music, arts, and culture scenes. From the early 1980s, as a member of groundbreaking No Wave and Punk Funk bands The Contortions and Defunkt, international touring, recording and songwriting collaborations with luminaries such as Bootsy Collins, Meshell Ndegeocello, Ivan Neville, The Specials and the legendary Ms. Patti Smith, to helming his own band, The True Groove All-Stars, Tomás has established himself as a cross-genre innovator without peer.

Doncker’s previous works have seen praise from the likes of BBC, CNN, Huff Post, MOJO, Spin, Brooklyn Vegan, NPR’s ‘All Songs Considered’, Guitar World, Wonderland Magazine, All About Jazz, Paste, Rolling Stone, and Blues Matters Magazine, where he was a recent main cover feature.

‘Hard Is Hard’ was produced with James Dellatacoma (Bill Laswell, Herbie Hancock) and mastered by Michael Fossenkemper (Paul Weller, LL Cool J, Miles Davis) and includes guest instrumentation from Frank Benbini (UB40, Fun Lovin’ Criminals), Adriano Rossetti-Bonell (UB40), and The Specials Horns. With elements of soul, blues, funk, rock, and some jazz thrown in for good measure, ‘Hard Is Hard’ is an eleven-track masterclass in Doncker’s innate knack for genre fluidity. The EP lyrically explores themes of racial inequality, social injustice, and keeping a positive mental attitude through hard times.

On the EP, Doncker says, “Things are difficult for everyone right about now. As a songwriter, I’m very fortunate to be able to have so many songs to sing, to hopefully strike a match in the darkness of these uncertain times. This music has been blessed by the contributions of some dear friends – true legends, and we’re grateful to share it now, with you…”

“I’m a sucker for a concept album! The idea of a collection of songs telling a story via groove, atmosphere, and sometimes a focused narrative is thrilling to me. ‘Cinematic Soul’, you might say…The A side is nothing but straight-up bangers, while the B-Side of the album (aka: ‘The Softer Side’) was crafted and sequenced in the spirit of the classic Isley Brothers albums’ B-sides from the 70s- ‘Baby Making Music’ (if you know what I mean…). Still, there are a few twists and surprises in there as well. As always, our first and foremost intention is to seduce…We invite you all to take the ride…Join Us!”

Doncker was recently invited to support Fun Lovin’ Criminals on their extensive tour throughout the UK and Europe alongside his band, The True Groove All-Stars, which includes members of The Specials Horns.

On the tour, he says, “I’m so honored and excited to have been invited to be a part of the upcoming Fun Lovin’ Criminals fall UK/EU tour. They’ve really made me feel welcome as a member of the international / UK music community, and I am forever grateful for this opportunity. It’s gonna be a lot of fun for sure!”

    About Tomás Doncker

For over a decade, Doncker’s expansive creative endeavors have found a home with his label/production hub True Groove Records. Projects have included work with P-Funk alumni Michael ‘Kidd Funkadelic’ Hampton and Amp Fiddler, multi-Grammy-winning Meshell Ndegeocello, Hip Hop pioneer Keith Shocklee (Public Enemy/Bomb Squad), and iconic bassist Bootsy Collins.

His ongoing musical collaborations with New York Poet Laureate and Pulitzer Prize winner Yusef Komunyakaa yielded the critically acclaimed albums Big Apple Blues, The Mercy Suite, and The Black Magnolia Project. Most recently, Doncker and Komunyakaa collaborated with visual artist Floyd Tunson to create ‘ENDANGERED’ in June 2022, an immersive multimedia experience that addresses the historical conundrum of black men in America being endangered. Inspired by Tunson’s Afro-Futuristic and politically charged artwork, and powered by lyrics from Komunyakaa, Doncker composed a sonic journey to freedom, a modern-day Revolution of the Mind, that has been hailed as “a socio-politically charged audio-visual soundtrack of 21st Century dissent, discomfort and reclamation.”

Pain Magazine – Horse Song + Tour Dates

    Pain Magazine
    Pain Magazine

Pain Magazine delivers “Horse Song,” the fourth single from their upcoming album Violent God. The collaboration between French post-hardcore band Birds in Row, which includes singer-songwriter Quentin Sauvé, and electronic-industrial duo Maelstrom and Louisahhh finds Sauvé’s vocals weaving through lush harmonies and fractured electronic drums, creating their most introspective track yet.

The song confronts personal failure and the search for redemption head-on. Sauvé’s delivery cuts through the band’s signature blend of organic and electronic elements as he works through guilt and self-awareness. The track balances frustration with hope, oscillating from railing against the idea of being trapped to declarations of love and presence.

“Horse Song” showcases Pain Magazine’s ability to channel internal struggle into compelling music. The song’s central tension lies between self-judgment and acceptance, balancing two opposing ideas at once in an exploration of ambivalence. The track’s crescendoing plea of “Pray for me /I know love” expresses vulnerability and strength in equal measure, showing the band’s range beyond their previous politically charged singles into more personal and intimate work.

Reminiscent of Low’s powerful vocal harmonies, the song layers Sauvé and Louisahhh’s voices, intertwining over drums that sound like breaking machinery, creating a grief-ridden yet hopeful ballad for a dying world. This marks the most personal and contemplative entry in Pain Magazine’s catalog so far, hinting at the emotional depth that awaits on Violent God.

Following their exploration of systemic issues, “Horse Song” turns inward while maintaining the supergroup’s commitment to honest, uncompromising music.

    About ‘Violent God’

Violent God documents survival in contemporary conditions. The album addresses mental illness, systemic exploitation, addiction, and redemption with directness. From the title track’s exploration of belief and blame to “Dead Meat’s” dissection of toxic relationships, from “Weak and Predatory’s”critique of predatory capitalism to “Magic’s” examination of addiction, Pain Magazine confronts difficult subjects without romanticizing them.

The sound combines industrial rhythms with power-pop hooks, electronic textures with guitar-driven compositions. Vocally, the album showcases Louisahhh’s dynamic range from roaring intensity to introspective delivery, Bart Balboa’s guttural growls, and Sauvé’s more contemplative approach. This is music that challenges listeners while maintaining melodic accessibility—a philosophy both camps have maintained throughout their careers.

Each member brings their established reputation for integrity and authenticity to this new venture. Birds in Row’s decade-plus history of fearlessly speaking truth to power merges seamlessly with Maelstrom and Louisahhh’s commitment to evolving creative processes and their fierce belief in disturbing complacency. The result transcends mere collaboration—it’s the birth of something genuinely novel and dangerous. Violent God demonstrates what happens when artists from different scenes share core values—integrity, authenticity, equity—and commit to exploring new territory together. Pain Magazine has created something that moves beyond simple collaboration into genuinely new sonic ground.

The album arrives October 3, 2025, via Hummus Records, following four singles that have established Pain Magazine’s approach to combining post-hardcore and electronic elements. With Violent God, they present a cohesive statement that emerged from an experimental process—sixteen days of intensive collaboration that produced something neither act could have created alone.

    About Pain Magazine

Pain Magazine is the new project combining two acts celebrated in their respective fields.

From the world of post-hardcore comes French trio Birds in Row, internationally known for their ferocious, emotionally charged performances and scathing lyrics, fearlessly speaking truth to power. Veterans of the scene, the band has built a strong following since their formation in 2009, touring extensively and gracing stages of impressive festivals like Dour festival, Roadburn, and ArcTanGent while remaining true to their DIY ethics and community-minded practices.

Hailing from the industrial techno scene, Franco-American techno duo Maelstrom and Louisahhh have been close collaborators since 2013, releasing their debut album in 2023 on their own label, RAAR,‘making techno for punks’. Built upon a fierce belief in evolving processes of creation and the trust and courage that requires, the creative partners have carved a unique, powerful niche in the world of electronic music, globally touring in many forms: as an electronic hybrid act, as celebrated DJs, as solo performers, and as a live band. Whatever the form, the musical and lyrical focus of comforting the disturbed and disturbing the comfortable remains steadfast.

The collision of these two worlds happened by near-accident, a ‘let’s see what happens’ studio session in the dead of winter, and evolved from a single track into an entire album written over the course of sixteen days.

Dabda – DDDD! + Tour Dates

Dabda has today dropped their new video for the track titled ‘DDDD!’, from their upcoming second album. This is one of those tracks you can’t help but give a listen to, at least for the fact of sheer curiosity. It really takes you in, to say the least. It’s more than a simple pop song. It’s a statement. An announcement that a new group of artists has just gone global.

Percussive pop meets frenetic and distorted guitars for an almost electro-tribal experience, and all within a song that goes everywhere but, somehow, makes sense.

    About ‘DDDD!’

DDDD! marks Dabda’s first step toward their upcoming second full-length album. The song—affectionately nicknamed “Ttungttangi (Babbler)”—took shape through rehearsals and demo recordings, evolving into a track where a complex structure coexists with an intuitively clear emotional arc. It is the result of two years of change and growth for the band.

As always, Dabda sings about youth. DDDD! carries a sense of encouragement for those caught between drifting and setting sail, giving them a gentle push forward. It is also the first track created with the new guitarist, Park Jung-woong.

“A subject called “D” is adrift at sea. On their face is the expression of someone who feels they’ve already lost a race that isn’t yet over. Sharp questions fly through their mind, wearing them down: Why am I adrift? They wish for some event—any event—that could break through the monotony of daily life. But the face staring back from the mirror is their own, watching indifferently. Somewhere along the way, they forgot how to move forward across this sea.

There was once a time when they believed in themselves without reason or hesitation. Back then, they trusted themselves more than they do now. That belief was the engine that likely carried them this far into the vast ocean.

Did I mention “D” is drifting on the sea? Perhaps the difference between drifting and sailing lies in how wide you can spread your sails. I hope the dreams carried from the past will push those sails with force. And if those forgotten dreams can give the strength to continue this voyage—then that would be enough.”

    About Dabda

Dabda is a four-piece indie rock band beloved by live-scene audiences for their sensitively shifting arrangements and high-energy performances. Their music blends meaningful space with intricate detail, aiming to transcend the boundaries of math rock and connect deeply with youth everywhere.

Since their 2016 debut EP Island of Each, they have released their first full-length album, But, All The Shining Things Are (2020), and a collaborative single, Jungle Gym (2021) with Takashi Kashikura from Toe. Following the August 2023 release of their EP Yonder, they have remained active with festival appearances at home and abroad and international tours. With the release of DDDD! as the first step, Dabda is now preparing for their second full-length album.

Over the past two years, Dabda has been anything but idle. Following the release of their EP Yonder in August 2023, the band has graced festival stages at home and abroad & embarked on tours across multiple countries. In Korea, they have performed at festivals such as Zandari Festa, Pentaport Rock Festival, DMZ Peace Train Music Festival, Asian Pop Festival, Countdown Fantasy, and TheSub. Abroad, they’ve appeared at Vagabond Festival (Taiwan), Bangkok Music City (Thailand), Minami Wheels (Japan), Neon Oasis Festival (Taiwan), among others.

They’ve shared stages with local bands in venues across Tokyo, Osaka, Bangkok, and Taipei, and have also hosted collaborative shows in Hongdae live clubs when Asian bands visited Korea. These experiences have been a source of creative nourishment for Dabda—fueling their ability to generate energy on stage and amplify it with the audience. They’ve gained more friends through music, and most importantly, they’ve begun reflecting positively on why they are making music here and now.

The first tangible result of that reflection is their new single DDDD!, their first release in two years. Coincidentally, the single’s release date marks the start of Dabda’s Asia Tour, which includes six shows across four countries.

The Inadequates – Haven’t You Heard? + Tour Dates

    The Inadequates
    The Inadequates

Step into the world of The Inadequates, a trio redefining folk with theatrical flair, genre-defying arrangements, and wildly expressive performances. Their debut album ‘Haven’t You Heard?’ is bursting with 12 tracks of tightly crafted chaos, reflective storytelling, and musical mischief.

Known for their eccentric live shows and a flair for dramatic storytelling, The Inadequates have built a cult following long before their first official release. With performances at festivals like Gympie Muster, National Folk Festival, and the Blue Mountains Music Festival, the trio’s colorful stage presence and unconventional sound have made them one of the most exciting acts in the Australian folk and world music scene.

‘Haven’t You Heard?’ is a sprawling folk-theatre production in 12 tracks. From foot-stomping absurdity to fragile reflections, it’s an anthology of love, longing, paranoia, heartbreak, and satire. Featuring mandolin, accordion, acoustic guitar, and layered harmonies, the album stretches the genre into strange and exciting places while never losing its emotional core.

The album opens with ‘When We Meet’, an upbeat, theatrical number that slowly reveals a darker twist – a love song from the perspective of a web stalker, its mandolin and accordion melodies both charming and unsettling. ‘Genevieve’ follows with an orchestral richness, its bittersweet breakup story disguised beneath irresistibly hooky melodies, while ‘The New Sensation’ injects a mischievous rush, using ominous harmonies and angular vocals to skewer consumerism and trend-chasing.

A gentler turn arrives with ‘Don’t Look Down’, a contemplative reflection on friendships lost to ambition, before ‘Alleyway Sharks’ drifts in – an accordion-led, drunken waltz steeped in post-party loneliness. ‘Break the Peace’ marks the album’s midpoint, building from solitude and grief into a layered instrumental tapestry, complete with hidden Morse code. ‘Little Green Lights’ gives a modern twist to the love song, its spiraling arrangements mirroring the restless act of watching online “active” dots that lead nowhere.

‘Silence’ blends audacious hooks with tongue-in-cheek lyricism, capturing the limbo of a relationship that won’t end, while ‘Twilight Robbery’ maps a post-breakup wander through Brisbane, growing from soft beginnings to a soaring, haunting climax. ‘Where Are the Cameras’ heightens paranoia with story-driven theatrics, and ‘Lethe River’ offers a bittersweet, romantic flow inspired by the mythical river of forgetfulness. The finale, ‘Snakes & Ladders’, dances between chaos and calm, closing the record with a dramatic sweep from hushed intimacy to metal-sharp intensity.

With their sharp suits, sharper lyrics, and a genre-bending spirit, The Inadequates are one of Brisbane’s most compelling acts. ‘Haven’t You Heard’ is their musical coming-of-age. It is loud, clever, and heartfelt in equal measure. Catch them on tour this September as they take these songs across Australia in a live show as unpredictable as their sound.

    Pinwheel Valley – Someway

    Pinwheel Valley
    Pinwheel Valley

Pinwheel Valley has released their new single titled ‘Someway’ via Hot Soap Records. Brilliant guitar work amid poetic and signature vocals, ‘Someway’ somehow hits all the feels with a minimalist approach and original style.

Pinwheel Valley is the brainchild of Qais Khoury. An introvert with introspection, Qais is one of those rare artists who channels his life experiences with bravado and flair, all within the feeling of the moment and the scope of an eternity.

“I wrote ‘Someway’ as a tender plea, woven with threads of hope and longing. It reflects the ache of separation (whether physical, emotional, or spiritual) and the profound yearning for reconnection. In an age defined by instant, hypermodern communication, I found myself gazing out to sea, inspired by a bygone era when messages in bottles carried words of love across vast, uncertain distances. The song captures that sense of remoteness and the fragility of faith in a bond that may still endure. In this light, the refrain “know I’ll find it someway” becomes an unyielding anchor of hope.”
    Qais Khoury

    About Pinwheel Valley & ‘Someway’

Led by Jordanian-Canadian singer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist Qais Khoury, Pinwheel Valley is a project born of deep introspection and wide-eyed exploration. Qais’ brainchild blossoms into a full band for live performances, consisting of Qais on vocals, guitar, and keys, Stephanos Marangos (lead and supporting guitar), Max Daniels (bass and Ableton), and either Stephanos Meletiou or Phrangiskos Petrisis on drums.

Originally known as KAIS, the project has evolved into a genre-blurring soundscape that fuses Indie Soul, mellow Alt-Rock, and Folktronica, drawing from a wide array of inspiration including Jeff Buckley, Bon Iver, James Blake, and Radiohead. At once cinematic and intimate, Pinwheel Valley’s music dwells in the spaces between our deepest instincts and the relentless pressures of an ego-driven, late-stage capitalist world.

From writing songs at thirteen to studying production in London at Point Blank Music School, Qais’ musical path has always been a soulful defiance of expectations, nurtured by a childhood surrounded by his father’s renditions of Sinatra and Elton John, and shaped by a cross-cultural upbringing that spans Amman, London, Vancouver, and now Cyprus, where he runs Hot Soap Studios Ltd. ‘Someway’, sure to ensnare fans of Father John Misty, Jeff Buckley, and Nick Murphy, was produced and written by frontman Qais Khoury.

‘Someway’ sees Pinwheel Valley veer into soft Indie Folk territory, with intimate acoustic guitar, airy atmospherics, and minimal percussion carrying Qais’ impassioned vocals, controlled yet aching with emotion. The timeless sound of the song makes it a perfect vessel for Qais’ call for connection in his lyrics; a primal human need in the fractured isolation of modernity.

No Breaks Jake – I Don’t Want to Be Like Me

    No Breaks Jake
    No Breaks Jake

Toronto’s No Breaks Jake returns with “I Don’t Want to Be Like Me,” a volatile, slow-burning alt-rock track that grapples with identity, guilt, and the longing for self-reinvention. It’s a heavy, emotional unraveling – one that begins in quiet vulnerability and erupts into a wall of fuzzed-out guitar riffs, cathartic screams, and sky-is-falling chaos.

The single marks a thematic cornerstone of No Breaks Jake’s upcoming Amygdalan EP, setting the tone for a project that doesn’t shy away from the harder truths. “This song evokes a state of mind that, honestly, I’m trying to leave behind,” says bandleader Jacob Kassay. “Actually doing that is definitely a little harder.”

Written and self-produced in Toronto, the song evolved through a dozen different iterations and multiple structural overhauls before landing in its final form. “It was all about telling the story effectively,” says Kassay. “I love how it builds from something intimate and restrained into a screaming mess. There’s something satisfying about it all coming apart.”

The track’s sonic instability mirrors the emotional volatility at its core – shaky chord voicings, emotionally distant strings, and off-kilter harmonies convey the tension of not quite fitting in your own skin. But beneath the distortion and dissonance, there’s a striking self-awareness.

“It’s a pretty dark song,” says Kassay, “but there’s an implied recognition of how toxic those feelings are. It’s about choosing to confront them anyway. That’s what makes the message hopeful.”

No Breaks Jake’s music is often compared to Jack White, Royal Blood, and St. Vincent, but its mission is uniquely personal. Kassay’s songwriting aims to meet life’s hardest moments with courage and clarity. “The best art says yes to life, even when it hurts,” he says. “That’s what I’m after.”

    About No Breaks Jake

Uniquely energetic and eclectic, No Breaks Jake is a Toronto-based alt/indie rock band led by Jacob Kassay. The band’s music pulls from influences like Jack White, Royal Blood, and St. Vincent. No Breaks Jake’s songs are marked by vulnerability, heaviness, and an unwavering faith that art not only empowers but redeems. This unapologetic, electric sound wears its heart on its sleeve and can be distilled into five simple words: heavy riffs and catchy hooks.

The Bros. Landreth – I’ll Drive + Tour Dates

    The Bros. Landreth
    The Bros. Landreth

JUNO Award-winning Winnipeg duo The Bros. Landreth announce their forthcoming album Dog Ear, out November 14, 2025, via Birthday Cake Records. Anchored by the lead single “I’ll Drive,” co-written with Grammy-nominated songwriter Jonathan Singleton, the album showcases the band’s collaborative spirit, lush instrumentation, and signature harmonies. Alongside themes of connection, refuge, and self-reflection, Dog Ear features special collaborations, including the legendary Bonnie Raitt on the heartfelt track “Knuckles” and alt-pop powerhouse Begonia on “Strange Dear,” offering listeners an intimate yet expansive journey.

“These songs kept circling back to ideas of refuge—a lighthouse, a shoreline, a dog-eared page to hold your place,” The Bros. share. “They’re tiny prayers for who we want to be for our children, and hopeful ideas about who they might become for their own communities.”

“I’ll Drive” was written with longtime friend and collaborator Jonathan Singleton during the band’s 2025 trip to Nashville. “The idea is simple—throw your cares aside and take a long drive with someone you love,” The Bros. say. The track is one of four songs born from those sessions.

Ahead of the album release, The Bros. Landreth will appear at Europe’s largest guitar event, Guitar Summit Festival in Mannheim, Germany, before heading out on a U.S. tour during release week. The Bros. also share two February 2026 dates in Denmark. More dates to follow.

    About The Bros. Landreth

The Bros. Landreth are two-time JUNO Award winners from Winnipeg, known for their blend of guitar-driven, soulful, blood harmony roots music. The band, the core of which consists of brothers Dave and Joey Landreth, has earned critical acclaim and a dedicated audience for their heartfelt songs, inventive musicianship, and powerful performances. From their early days attending their father’s gigs as babies (“Mom would tuck us into a bassinet and slide us under the bar tables,” says Dave), the brothers have spent a lifetime touring rock clubs, theatres, and music festivals across North America, the UK, Europe, and Australia, including stand-out performances at Byron Bay Blues Festival in Australia and Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival in Los Angeles.

In 2023, a banner year for the band, Joey and Dave became Grammy-winning songwriters when Bonnie Raitt’s cover of their song, Made Up Mind (from their first album, Let It Lie), earned the Grammy for Americana Performance of the Year. The recognition was a fitting nod from one of their musical heroes, as their own music draws inspiration from the well-worn records of their childhood — Bonnie Raitt’s blues, Little Feat’s funky country-rock, Ry Cooder’s eclectic instrumentals, Lyle Lovett’s twangy traditionalism — culminating in a sound that salutes the past while planting its flag firmly in the present.

Drawing on the energy of their recent live shows and a newfound sense of creative purpose, The Bros. Landreth returned to the studio for their fourth full-length album, Dog Ear. This record captures the spontaneous and collaborative spirit of their touring band, which includes drummer Roman Clarke and producer Murray Pulver, and marks a new, more effortless approach to songwriting. The band describes the album as a deeply personal and emotionally resonant work, exploring themes of family and the quest for stability amidst the itinerant life of a touring musician, and says it’s “really about trying to figure out what it means to be a consistent force in the lives of the people you care about.”

With songs like the title track written for their children, the album captures a raw and focused energy in the studio, featuring a handful of magical first takes and special collaborations with pop vocalist Begonia, keyboardist Glenn Patscha, and a powerful guest vocal performance from their longtime hero, Bonnie Raitt. The Bros. ultimately hope, “Maybe something on this record will get stuck in your head, or take root in your heart… Maybe, just maybe it’ll work its way into some little useful corner of your life, in the way that songs sometimes can do.”

    Stereophobia – Choke On This

    Stereophobia
    Stereophobia

Stereophobia has today released their new album titled ‘Choke On This’ via Eclipse Records. While the album features 14 songs of dark sonic bliss, ‘Choke On This’, in its entirety, sounds like a gritty concept. A story that encompasses you in your beautiful darkness to contemplate, instigate, and maybe even fornicate to each and every note. The tracks meld and mold into what you are becoming at that very moment without apology or regret.

Dark harmonies swimming in a pool of sonic dissonance, ‘Choke On This’ not only chokes you but never lets you catch your breath. Immaculately immersive and decadent in every hook, this is a perfect example of how enlightening the darkness can be.

    About ‘Choke On This’

Choke on This, the defiant new alternative metal album from Stereophobia, is more than a gut punch. It is a blast in the face that widens your eyes, buzzsaws your back, and rocks your bones right down to the marrow. Hard rock at its finest, the rich guitar sound is a precious collection of aesthetic “schitzo-riffs,” each an exotic treasure dazzling in the dark and leading us to the caverns and haunts of our deepest repressions. The bass is a booming series of tactical nukes, and the power-drumming gets in your blood, enlarges your heart, and rattles your ribcage. The album isn’t subtle. Play the “f” out of it, and for “eff’n” God’s sake, play it loud!

    About Stereophobia

Stereophobia is an alternative metal band from Lisbon, Portugal, and they will blow your mind like an M-80 in a paper lampshade! They feature a massive guitar sound, a thundering bass, and a percussive pound and burn that resonates like a war drum. At times, the growl vocal rips apart your vertebrae, and at others, it pulses like a redeyed jackal watching from the shadows. We suggest you give them a listen. Today. Now.

Though the band formed in 2019, they evolved into the current power trio format back in 2022. Stereophobia is Mike Rocha (guitars and vocals), Daniel Antunes (drums and backing vocals), and Bruno Santos (bass guitar), and their debut record, No One Cares, was released in 2023. And now, fully realized, Stereophobia unveils their new album, Choke on This, and on first listen, we can’t help but notice that this is far more than “music.” This is a statement straight from the mind of Mike Rocha, reanimated and diabolically rearranged by Antunes and Santos, a smoking potion, loaded hot like a shot.

In terms of the focus tracks on the new record, they are ghostly sketches of who we are and the monsters we have made of ourselves. The song Maggots is all about infection, starting with the “Constant buzzing inside my ears,” and evolving to the “Demons in my head pushing me around.” We are trapped in the asylum, where the only cure is a numbing insanity brought on by psycho surgeons, mad scientists, cannibal coroners, and a slew of perverted nurses. By the time we stumble into the second focus track titled, Uncle Clarke’s (Made Me Do It), we are prisoners in our self-made cages, crafting suicide pacts while “Locked in chains / And eating rats.” The third focus track, Freak Show, brings us full circle, where we have become an army of escaped miscreants, coming to consume anything in our paths to get revenge for the pureness in us that was stolen and trashed. “The freaks are coming,” and all you newbies will be swallowed by the faces.” Get your ass ready. This is not a drill.

In terms of musicality, Mike Rocha’s guitar sounds are an amazing collection of sonic bursts as unique and varied as the elements in a color chart. In a real sense, he has reinvented “the riff,” making the rhythm tracks in the verses less like background and more like adventures. The vocals are just as eclectic, often a fierce growl and other times, a traditional voice, somehow both tentative and bold and wholly relatable. The drums are insane, especially the snare and machine-gunning toms, and the bass is addicted to the rhythm pattern, sticking closer than a brother and pounding out the band’s footprint in the sand.

Choke on This was produced by Miguel Camilo (M’vula, The Bateleurs) and Stereophobia, mixed and mastered at MC Sound Studios. The album cover art was created by Tatiana Ferreira.

    John Conlin – Mulholland Drive

John Conlin has today dropped his new lyric video and track titled ‘Mulholland Drive’. Featuring a strong sonic presence and a penchant for the hook, John Conlin gives a stellar feeling within the music in the moment, as well as a solid track closing out the summer.

‘Mulholland Drive’ is a track that takes you on that long ride down the road, and gives you a chance to collect your thoughts, and gives you a boost. It’s an anthem with originality at its core, around the edges.

Take from this what you will, but this is what those songs from the eighties had that more and more songs nowadays lack: an enthusiasm for the music.

    About ‘Mulholland Drive’

‘Mulholland Drive’ is a powerful, synth-driven anthem about a secret, one-night meeting with true love, a fleeting connection set against the glow of Los Angeles city lights. The song’s sound is both nostalgic and unmistakably modern, creating a soundscape that feels romantic, bittersweet, and constantly in motion.

Listeners will notice echoes of the anthemic, story-driven rock of Springsteen mixed with the modern, synth-driven feel of Lady GaGa’s Born This Way record. The result is a track that is perfect for driving, an immersive sonic experience that puts the listener directly in the driver’s seat for this covert rendezvous.

‘Mulholland Drive’ is a song for anyone who has ever found beauty in a temporary love. It’s for the romantics who understand that some of the most profound connections are the ones that can’t last. This is the perfect soundtrack for a solitary drive with the top down at night, thinking about what was, what is, and what could have been. The track solidifies Conlin’s ability to tell deeply human stories within a grand, cinematic pop framework.

‘Mulholland Drive’ was written and produced by John Conlin and John McLucus.

    About John Conlin

John Conlin moved to Los Angeles from his hometown of Toronto to pursue music. His musical influence stems greatly from the massive pop overtaking of the early 2010s. Today, Conlin invites you into his world of cinematic electropop, where he creates a sense of urgency driven by massive synth hooks and larger-than-life vocals. With lyrical themes of love, fantasy, and escapism layered over maximalist production, Conlin’s music will have you filled with vibrant emotion on the dance floor.

    Sadlands – Twin Flame

    Sadlands
    Sadlands

With shimmering feedback, dueling vocals, pleading lyrics, and searing guitar leads, Sadlands is fronted by songwriters and guitarists Sam Campanile and Jess Lane, backed by Louis Rabeno on bass and Harley Cox on drums. Their sound bridges heartfelt lyricism with explosive energy—songs that burn with both vulnerability and catharsis.

The band spent the summer of 2024 recording 12 songs with Matt Schimelfenig (Gladie) at The Bunk in the Pennsylvania Poconos. The album was mastered by Ian Farmer (Modern Baseball)—with the assistance of his cat, Onion—at The Metal Shop in Philadelphia, PA.

The first single, “Twin Flame,” finds Campanile grappling with the pull of self-doubt and the search for meaning.

“This song is about the struggles of self-doubt, uncertainty, and a search for meaning,” shares Campanile. “I felt inspired after watching a documentary about a cult that uses the promise of ‘finding your twin flame’ to draw followers in. The lyrics tell a fictional story about a person turning to spirituality as an attempt to find a sense of belonging. This person meets their alleged ‘soulmate’ yet has a moment of realization, and consequently pushes them away as an act of self-preservation. It’s intended to be a cautionary tale, explaining how easy it is to fall prey to others when there’s a strong desire for love and a sense of purpose.”

Sadlands will continue rolling out singles ahead of Try To Have A Little Fun.

The band has also announced a run of Northeast shows in support of the release, including stops in Medford, Manchester, Queens, Salem, and Brooklyn.
