Somebody Someone has today released their new video for the track titled ‘The Light’. A bit of an uplift with electro-nostalgic sentiment, this track takes Somebody Someone into a slightly new realm. ‘The Light’, to me, signifies a dramatic shift in tone and style from what I’ve already heard from Somebody Someone. While not fitting into the catalog created so far, it greatly expands it while keeping the songwriter’s credibility already established.

Conceptually beautiful and creatively divergent, ‘The Light’ is in its own atmosphere, in a beautiful soundscape it created for those who like to take it a little bit higher and explore. This is a daring move that paid off.

About ‘The Light’

The eye-opening accompanying video positions Somebody Someone in a boxing ring, a contender for a match that offers little challenge. “My longtime collaborator Wil Kelly and I knew from the jump that we wanted to take a hard left from the dreamy, magical tone of the ‘Better’ video,” they explain. “This one had to be weirder, sharper, surreal, and comedic, but with teeth. We kept circling the same themes, I think about obsessively: the tension between art and commerce, the broken machinery of the music industry, and the soul-tax of staying authentic in a world that rewards spectacle over substance.”

Tossing around competitive sport metaphors like tennis and golf, they “eventually landed on the boxing ring as our stage,” they relay. “It’s physical, theatrical, and just absurd enough to get the point across.” Not just a simple, straight-ahead concept of an artist in battle, “The Light” took on a bigger concept. “The whole video became a kind of satire on what it means to ‘fight’ for your art without selling yourself out to the influencer pipeline or gatekeeper cash traps,” they explain. “It’s part fever dream, part farce, and sincere in its rebellion. My favorite part was studying boxing and fight choreographing again – hey, my theater degree is useful after all!”

On the fast track to mainstream attention, Somebody Someone is turning up the heat, having made quite a significant and resounding splash, sending ripples exponentially outward. Their momentum was amplified this summer through NPR’s Tiny Desk On The Road Tour, being featured on the popular podcast “Telepathy Tapes” and added to Adam Durwitz’s Underwater Sunshine Festival in NYC, which takes place November 21-22, 2025.

A single release party is set for August 1, 2025, at Radio East (3504 Montopolis Dr, Austin, TX 78744) with support from Letrainiump (details below).

About Somebody Someone

Garnering plaudits for their single “Better” from New Noise Magazine (“a stunning yet subtle piano ballad that’s notable for its raw emotion and powerful vocal performance”), Ghettoblaster (“spellbinding… a name you’ll be hearing quite a bit from in 2025”), International Musician (“deeply personal and authentic”), KUTX (“breathtaking”), Somebody Someone has made a deep impact on not only the Austin music scene, but nationally as well.

Tackling not only their neurodivergence but also their struggles with mental health and identity, they have carved out a niche that is wholly their own.
