The Quixotics are set to drop their upcoming album titled ‘New World State of Mind’ on October 22nd. Melody meets mayhem with a collection of tracks that take the guitar grit and mix it with the grace and grandiose of massive hooks and solid songwriting of musicians steeped in the heaviness of history and the lyrics of poets.

Solid sounding with every track standing out showing there is strength in numbers as you listen and realize how banger the tracks are together in this particular order.

Showing that this is way more than a family affair, The Quixotics display a wide array of genre-bending attitudes and emotions with a sonic canvas full of color and chaos.

About The Quixotics & ‘New World State of Mind’

‘New World State of Mind,’ is the latest offering from The Quixotics (pronounced quick-zotics). Album number six from the prolific song writer Michael Gabriel and his quixotic band based in Fremantle (Walyalup), Western Australia. Michael has been joined by his dexterous son Gabe on drums for the previous two albums (‘All is Atremble’ 2017 and ‘Young Tearaway’ 2021). This special bond shines through on every musical adventure they encounter together, going back to Gabe’s 2010 live debut aged only ten with his dad as the duo Big Dragon Little Dragon (named for their shared zodiac signs).

The core of The Quixotics is a 3-piece with the inclusion for the last seven years of Hannah Smillie on Hofner bass and crystallizing harmonies. Their two previous albums were recorded in their home studio, engineered and mixed by Michael Gabriel. The current album ‘New World State of Mind’ sees The Quixotics return to the realm of a professionally equipped studio (Poons Head), to combine forces with experienced engineer/producer Rob Grant to capture the unit’s by now tight and savvy sound.

‘New World State of Mind’ will also be the first Quixotics album available on vinyl. Side A opens with the uplifting catchy first single ‘See Saw’ and maintains a melodic diverse pop drive. Side B pushes into more rocking terrain, including the blistering title track ‘New World State of Mind’ – some vintage rock ‘n’roll hammered out on a ‘66 Telecaster through a vintage Vox AC30 amplifier bringing it all home with a scintillating guitar solo of old.

This is an album thoroughly peppered with engaging lyric content and must move body beats. Give it a listen….wherever you land on this album you will want to hear more tracks, and you might be left wondering…“Why have I not discovered this intriguing song writer and band earlier…?”

The opener ‘See Saw’ tackles the issue of mental strain amongst friends albeit with a toe- tapping sense of salvation -‘I think you’ve fallen enough…..you’re not gonna drown’.

‘Misdemeanour 10’ from its signature opening drum roll consolidates with a sumptuous melodic mid-tempo confessional ballad with some relationship redemption in sight. ‘Nature’ deviates into a waltz time folky intro stepping up into a rolling plea for some insight and connection from our mysterious and essential organic Mother. ‘Escalated Free’ transitions to a more upbeat dual vocal searching amidst the fog for the elevation and clarity of a clear day. ‘No Relief, No Release’ maintains the trippy sonic intensity finally plateauing out into an enchanted, vague, choral field surrendering to the rapture in unease.

Side A closes with the delicate and somber ode ‘All Day Lonely’ for our fine friend and musician Simon Cox (RIP). Simon contributed evocative Rhodes keyboards to several tracks before his untimely death prior to the album’s completion. Slide guitar on this track was contributed by Aaron Powell, a recent enhancement adding melodic propulsion to The Quixotics’ live shows.

Side B opens with the punchy indie rock of ‘Peep Inside’ setting the pace for a lively side of insightful and visceral tunes. ‘Red Traffic Light’ with its distorted vocal siren warning to reckless friends is the forerunner to ‘Petrify Me,’ a heavy riffing rocker with swagger and uneasy tortured guitar tones. ‘All Very Young’ maintains the riffing while questioning the current state of society with its polarized views bringing division to many a relationship and lamenting that no matter how old we are, from an evolutionary perspective humanity is still very young.

Following is the title track ‘New World State of Mind’, an urgent call for a desperately required revolution in thinking at large. Keep a look out for the accompanying eye-catching video. A farewell and decompression comes in the form of an untitled, improvised, instrumental jam finale, to round out the album and evoke the delightful camaraderie of The Quixotics cohort.

Michael grew up listening to the swagger and swing of The Stones, the pop recalcitrance of The Kinks and the trippy guitar swirls of Hendrix along with myriad other influences. The lived fascinations of a mysterious life coalesce with such influences to inform the original bent of his song writing and performance. Michael Gabriel and his Quixotic band present you ‘New World State of Mind’.
