Woven Talon is set to drop their new album titled ‘Bao Somwa’ on August 23rd. A beautifully crafted and, at times, guttural with a global feel and inner self style set of emotions, ‘Bao Somwa’ is a life journey of the self and realization of the mind connection to the spirit as a set of interpretations of connections between that self and the world around us.

Woven Talon has created something that transcends time, styles, and everything that defines an era or a genre. This is the heart of what music is and was meant to do and become. That transcendental moment of enlightenment that only comes when you become something more than what the world has defined you to be. Beautifully crafted and lovingly made, ‘Bao Somwa’ is a timeless masterpiece. The connection lays within the feeling.

About Woven Talon

With songs born amidst the forest, fire, river and shore, Woven Talon weaves poly-rhythmic layers of ancestral voices, world percussion, hypnotic strings, and soulful earthy melodies, enchanting listeners with a colorful journey, surfing the shadows and light, awakening the imagination & inspiring a dance to lift the spirit.

Woven Talon appears live as an energizing acoustic world music Ensemble for movements of dance, and also Solo as an intimate visionary experience of voice and soulful songs seeped in spirit.

At the heart of Woven Talon is Santa Fe, New Mexico based visionary composer and multi-instrumentalist Andrew Tumason, who captures acoustic arrangements amidst the powerful landscapes of the Southwestern United States, Australia, and Aotearoa New Zealand, gathering global artists to collaborate with each musical chapter of Woven Talon’s cinematic world fusion sound.

Each Woven Talon Album has its own unique feeling, woven together as the Kahu Takaya Story, spanning four albums to date, beginning in 2018 with ‘Dreamlines’ followed by ‘Kahu’ (2020), ‘Hajiko’ (2022), and now Bao Somwa (2024).

Throughout the latest album Bao Somwa, Tumason’s soulful voice and musical presence carries lucid rhythmic visions. Maya Cordova (Muna Clay) sings harmonies, adding to Tumason’s hypnotic bass and guitar riffs sometimes played with a bow. Energized by Afro-Haitian percussion like calabash, bell, and shakere, Tumason weaves rhythm with Julia Chambers (djembe), Alex Simon (slide), Shai Brod (didjeridoo), Peter Hunt (trumpet), along with others from around the globe. “Bao Somwa’s lyrical language comes from the story which this music tells through a series of albums,” Tumason says, “a language born from listening to the land.”

Following the muse, Woven Talon has dedicated time recording between the Western United States, Aotearoa New Zealand, Australia, East Arnhem Land, and Iceland, collaborating with accomplished artists including Michael Stearns, Greg Ellis, Mark Engles, Drew Roulette, Jeremy Cloake, Tone Ranger, Porangui, Desert Dwellers, Luke Carr, and Miranda Scott in the co-founded project Evarusnik.

Talon’s performance highlights have been at Aotearoa New Zealand festivals including Solrise, Earthbeat, Spirit Fest, Aotearoa Youth Rising, and Voices of Sacred Earth Gathering, along with New Mexico’s Taos Mesa Mothership and Unison Festival. The original Talon ensemble performed their first show at the opening gala evening of Santa Fe’s renown MeowWolf, The House of Eternal Return.
