Ziggy D’Amato has today released his new double-A side singles ‘Let Her Dance’ and ‘How To Love’. Mixing covers of two songs by the Bobby Fuller Four and Lil Wayne is a bold move. Really bold. The only way you can pull it off is to take them away from the artists and make them your own. That is exactly what Ziggy does with both tracks.
His style is a mix of gritty rock and pop hooks with vintage harmonies and the occasional guitar lead for vintage flavor. While the two tracks perfectly bookend each other, they stay in their lanes, just enough to let you know they’re from the same artist.
I guess that my favorite aspect of both songs, collectively, is that there is a retro-sounding vibe that permeates throughout. Just enough to make them endearing on a personal level, for me. I’ve always been a fan of The Bee Gees, Peter Frampton, and so on. I hear songwriting hook licks in those styles here. That shift from major to minor. Things like that. Ziggy has that knack to bring that sound just enough into this era without sounding gimmicky.
Overall, Ziggy D’Amato shows that he is a musician who loves his job. He’s not in it for the money or fame. Those are rare and fleeting anyway. He is in it to create and make his mark with a signature sound that he is continuing to hone and mature, even with covers.
