Bringing a fresh, country-tinged twist to the UK’s pop scene 19-year old, County Down-born singer Catherine McGrath releases her debut EP, entitled One, through Warner Bros. Records on December 23rd.
The lead track ‘Hell Would Have To Freeze Over’ is a sassy and confident introduction to the talented Northern Irish singer-songwriter. It is an upbeat acoustic performance showcasing McGrath’s beautiful vocals and exceptional songwriting capabilities.
Attracting a youthful audience who love Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran as much as Rascal Flatts and Kacey Musgraves, ‘Hell Would Have To Freeze Over’ was featured on 35 Spotify playlists including the New Music Friday Playlist two weeks ago and is currently #1 on the Very Nearly Nashville Playlist with Catherine as the cover star.
It is the first song taken from her upcoming debut acoustic EP One, featuring three original compositions that Catherine explains, “fit all of the different parts of my personality… I’m writing music that I genuinely love and I care about the message that I’m sending out.”
The second track on the EP ‘Cinderella’ debuted on Spotify’s New Music Friday Playlist last week and is followed by ‘She’ll Never Love You’ and a stunning cover of Jessie Ware’s 2014 hit single, ‘Say You Love Me’.
Catherine will be supporting The Saturdays’ Una Healy for two special shows in February next year. She will be playing at London’s St Pancras Old Church on the 15th before returning to Ireland to play The Sugar Club Dublin on the 16th.

About Catherine McGrath
Hailing from the rural outskirts of Belfast the 19-year-old singer-songwriter began her musical path when she picked up a guitar and began teaching herself to play music, to accompany her voice. With musical parents by her side and the traditional Irish folk scene around her she delved into the world of music playing regularly at her parents’ Fiddler’s Green Festival.
Although thousands of miles from the country music epicenter Nashville, Catherine first discovered her adoration for the sound after being won over by Taylor Swift’s self-titled pre-pop album. Her desire to learn more saw her explore deeper into the genre’s new era of talent in the shape of Kacey Musgraves, Dan + Shay and Maddie & Tae.
Equally inspired by UK popstars such as Ed Sheeran, she began uploading videos of herself covering pop hits with a country twist onto YouTube and was amazed by the reaction she received from fans of the genre.
Soon spotted by the London and NYC based company Instrumental, who specializes in discovering and developing music talent emerging on social media, Catherine moved to London to start her career in earnest. Six months later she found herself living her dream by writing songs in Nashville and is now releasing her own music.
