A master motivator singularly focused on the grind, Tallahassee’s Wizz Havin specializes in hustle-hard hood anthems. Teaming up with another fast-rising Southern rapper, YTB Fatt, the Tallahassee-born-and-bred Wizz shares “Real Drip,” a new single and music video. Dueling over an apocalyptic instrumental, complete with thunderous bass, doom-y low-note piano, and tolling bells, Wizz and Fatt make expert sparring partners, as Wizz’s laid-back flow complements Fatt’s frenzied drawl. The two rappers take turns declaring their street bonafides: they are real pimps with real drip, taking aim at narcs with plastic grills. In the video, Wizz and Fatt connect in Miami, posting up at a local gas station in a clean white Mercedes, before heading to a private runway to catch a jet.
“Real Drip” is the latest single from Wizz’s upcoming project, Super Wizz, following last month’s “Check Me,” created in collaboration with Florida sound architect Ddot Freezing. Super Wizz establishes the young Florida rapper as a hood superhero, a man who overcame the circumstances of his birth with only his superhuman rhyming talent and dedication to getting paper. First emerging last year with songs like the Pitchfork-praised “Water Running,” Wizz Havinn immediately made an impact with his flow, which sits slightly behind the beat, ending each line with an upward inflection that makes him sound surprised by his own high-quality flexes. His flow inspired the sound of fellow Tallahassee breakout Luh Tyler, who has credited Wizz as a direct influence. In December 2022, Wizz garnered critical acclaim for his debut project Mr. Too Sticky, earning praise from Pitchfork and The FADER, who called Mr. Too Sticky, “the first good rap tape of 2023.” The tape gave a permanent home to street hits like “Mode,” which generated over 1.8 million views on YouTube, “Not Worthy,” and the FADER-acclaimed “C-Class.” When not rhyming, the young father enjoys fishing in the Panhandle’s abundant swamps and cooking up meals in his kitchen.
