About Marquise Fair

“I come from a violent ghetto. I lived with my mother and brothers in subsidised housing in Miami. Thanks to a scholarship, I was able to study at Florida International University, where I graduated in 2012. At 22, I was attending school, learning to play the guitar, and writing songs.

After a concert in an art gallery, Nadia, the owner, offered to help by introducing me to a drummer and producer in Switzerland. David Wehren contacted me, and we immediately hit it off, sharing the same musical wavelength.

A few months later, David suggested I try my luck in Switzerland. If I could get there on my own, he would find opportunities for me to perform and earn money, which would help finance the recording and production of my first album. So instead of continuing my studies, I took a risk by playing music on the streets, busking, and taking various odd jobs: digging holes, picking up rocks, and serving hotel clients. I even sold my guitar to buy a cheaper one.

Eventually, I managed to save a few hundred dollars, and in January 2016, I flew to Switzerland. After 34 hours of travel and a chaotic journey, I finally arrived. David and I worked hard, show after show. We recorded the album ourselves.

In 2017, I participated in American Idol, but it wasn’t for me because I don’t like playing other people’s music. Now, I am ready to share my music with the rest of the world.”
