Grammy-nominated Zap Mama started in 1989 after Marie Daulne returned from visiting her native Congo-Kinshasa to explore her roots and train in pygmy onomatopoeic vocal techniques. Since then, she has experienced worldwide success with an ensemble of female polyphonic singers, inspired influences in American Hip Hop, Nu-Soul, Jazz and elements of Pop.
Since her first album in 1991, which began with an acapella group, Zap Mama has expanded and explored other music genres, collaborating with well known musical acts such as The Roots, Erykah Badu, Talib Kweli and others.
This year – 2015 – marks the 25th year of Zap Mama’s influence on the world’s music stage and with it, she celebrates the release of her new album.
“I am very proud of what we have created,” said Zap Mama who is planning to release the album independently. “That means no label and no record deal. And therefore a need for a strong social media team to ensure this album gets the exposure it deserves.”
This Kickstarter campaign will allow Zap Mama to develop an effective promotion strategy by hiring a social media expert to begin crafting the release of her first single. By working with an independent social media strategist, she will be given the creative freedom to share her music and gift creatively to those who care the most (her fans!)
The perks give her fans the opportunity to become more directly involved with her and her music. They include VIP tickets/backstage passes to the city of YOUR choice during her 2015 tour, pre-show sound-check access, and even an opportunity to have help produce your next track!
