Taken from her upcoming third album Digital Dream due out November 15, 2024 on Aztec Records, “The Storm” is the third released single, following “Laser Eyes” which Traxsource considers “a mega catchy track not to be missed this year” and “Drifting Away,” which Mundane Magazine calls “a soon-to-be synthwave classic” that “captures all the soaring synth magic of the greats Giorgio Moroder and Ken Laszlo and transports it to a retro-modern environment.”
“The Storm” was made in collaboration with Columbus, OH’s renowned synthpop producer Brian Skeel, with whom LAU has worked on previous albums. The mid-tempo nostalgic-yet-uplifting song is an ode to friendship. The Barcelona-based singer wanted to dedicate this song to her childhood friends, after a lifetime of memories, life experiences and adventures, and standing together in good and bad times. “It’s rare and it’s beautiful to be still connected to them every day, even if we don’t live in the same country,” says LAU . “This song is for them and for all the long-lasting friendships out there.”
Tackling the ups and downs of love, attraction, heartache and friendship, Digital Dream covers a wide swath of emotional ground. “The album title Digital Dream is an outlook on the hectic life we live in nowadays, led by social media,” LAU explains. “With that constant need to create content and be glued to our phones (especially for artists), the struggle to be seen, and social media takes away from our time to create music. It’s something we all have to do in this day and age as independent artists.”
Assembling a transcontinental cast of producers including AKRAS (Finland), Brian Skeel (USA), The Lightning Kids (UK), Kraver & Elliot (Netherlands/Switzerland) and Fulvio Colasanto (Italy), Digital Dream follows the worldwide success of her debut album Believer (2021), which introduced LAU as not only a formidable woman in music (she is the Creative Director at Aztec Records, a UK record label she co-founded in 2010 which launched the careers of Bright Light Bright Light, NINA, among others) but also an important musician in the synthwave/retrowave scene. Her second album Circumstance (2022) reached #22 on the UK Apple Music Electronic Album chart. Her music has appeared on the Victoria’s Secret winter ad campaign and in publications such as Billboard, Rolling Stone, Mixmag, DJ Mag, Marie Claire, and many others. That same year, LAU was selected as a Keychange artist from an EU talent development program that promotes gender minorities in music. She’s also been nominated for the Spanish Independent Music Awards in 2021 and 2022 (Best Artist and Best Album) and the BIME Equity Awards in 2022 (Best Song).
LAU is Laura Fares. Digital Dream will be released on November 15, 2024 via Aztec Records.
