The Bordeaux-based band led by Hugo Carmouze unveils ‘Mains’, the second single taken from ‘Troisième Opinion’, their twelfth album, set to be released on December 6 via Flippin’ Freaks Records, Howlin’ Banana Records, Les Disques du Paradis, and Nothing Is Mine.
“Mains” is one of the catchiest singles from their new album. This track fuses saturated, melodic mid-tempo guitars with influences from power pop, shoegaze, and dream pop. The infectious French-sung chorus (“You hold my hand / I hold your hand”) transforms it into an instant pop-rock gem, reminiscent of the styles of Hotline TNT, Alex G, Elliott Smith, Yo La Tengo and My Bloody Valentine.
“Mains” is simply a love song. This track, along with almost the entire upcoming album, serves as a kind of love letter. Written during a long-distance relationship, it reflects the songwriter’s desire to capture the feeling of holding hands — a tribute to those rare, precious moments shared in person.
The lines about thinking of their loved one while on the bus capture the many times they were physically apart. Simply being able to send a message or think about them made it feel as if they were still holding hands.
Hugo Carmouze (Opinion) explains: “Musically, I wanted to create a song that gave that “butterflies in the stomach” feeling. So, I aimed to make something as “epic” as it is “nostalgic,” using a wall of shoegaze-inspired sound to evoke the warm, comforting feeling of love.”
