Stergin has released his new EP titled ‘Here’ via Bandcamp as well as the new lyric video for ‘Here And Now’ (below). Swerving through and bending around influences and genres alike, the unique feeling of camp and curiosity give ‘Here’ the overall vibe of a concept as well as a creation.

Outside of the box hooks with unpredictable guitar riffs underneath original vocal styles and and idea that no one else could have thought of, Stergin take creativity to a new level while still staying relevant amid the invasion of assembly line music making that’s beginning to invade the indie music scene. Consider this a ‘fuck you’ to the rise of AI and a touchdown for the humans.

    About ‘Here’

Written over a reflective and wildly creative 10-day residency on the Atlantic island of Gomera, “Here” embodies the joy and curiosity of its surroundings—surf pop vibes, playful synths, and dreamy vocal choirs.

With only a laptop, microphone, mini keyboard, and beat-up guitar, Stergin has crafted songs that are fun, whimsical, and textured with sounds both intimate and psychedelic. Expect indie rock and twee pop riffs, mingling with surf and chamber psychedelic twists—a mix aptly being named “Napoleon Dynamite in band form”.

The EP’s track, “Roly Poly,” captures a memorable moment from Stergin’s island life. Each night, he encountered a troop of tiny centipedes (affectionately nicknamed Roly Polies), which he carefully escorted outside before bed. “At first, I was a bit horrified,” Stergin laughs, “but eventually, we made peace. Now they have a song!”

Each track on “Here” will launch individually on streaming platforms starting 24th January 2025, released every six weeks, alongside the full EP also available for download on Bandcamp from 24th January. Listeners can expect music to dance to, dream with, and escape into…

“Here” isn’t just an EP; it’s an invitation to get lost in music inspired by wind, waves, and an artist’s journey through grief and joy.
This is the beginning of Stergin’s wild quest, offering a light, quirky, and soulful sonic adventure.

    About Stergin

Stergin, a native Austrian, is a London-based artist, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, producer and educator celebrated for his inventive and emotionally resonant music. He’s been involved in many different projects ranging from producing for Red Bull to the Tokyo Olympics.

As one half of Shiny Brain Crayons, hailed as “one of the most inventive bands around at the moment—they’re nutty” (David Gilyeat, BBC), Stergin creates music that balances whimsy, melancholy, and positivity. His solo ventures include the multimedia project 12 Photos 12 Tracks and the upcoming Here and Now EPs, a celebration of mindfulness and the present moment.

The Darkness have today released their new single titled ‘Rock And Roll Party Cowboy’ from their upcoming album ‘Dreams On Toast’ (tracklist below) dropping March 28th via Cooking Vinyl.

Seemingly the perfect opener to an anticipatedly stellar album, The Darkness take their old school formula and kick out the jams like a bunch of damn kids pissing off the parents for the last time. Honing an already signature sound, The Darkness drill each riff into your head with the fervor of addicts on their fifth relapse. Not giving a fuck for the norm, this is a band that sees the road less traveled and says ‘fuck it’ and makes their own road. The originality is all over the track while their is enough to relate for the listener yet enough to enlighten and enrage with rock panache and enough attitude to forever keep you young at heart.

Check out our other features with The Darkness HERE.

    About ‘Dreams On Toast’

The Darkness go hell for leather on the new single, channeling the sounds of hard rock legends such as ZZ Top, Motörhead and Judas Priest with searing solos, hell-raising vocals and a fist-pumpin’ rhythm section to create a tongue-in-cheek reflection on the hedonistic, macho music scene of the ‘70s and ‘80s.

Regarding the single, frontman Justin Hawkins says, “People recognize me as astronaut pirate movie star cool and that’s obviously accurate. What they may have overlooked though, is that I am also Rock and Roll Party Cowboy cool… which is a good 15 percent cooler!!! I think you’ll recognize that in the first listen.”

“Rock and Roll Party Cowboy” is the third single to be taken from the forthcoming magnum opus Dreams On Toast. It follows the self-deprecating glam punk rock of “I Hate Myself” and jaunty pop genius of ”The Longest Kiss” – showcasing the diversity and brilliance of the band’s eighth studio album.

Produced by Dan Hawkins at Hawkland Studios in Sussex, England, Dreams On Toast flawlessly captures The Darkness at their peak, celebrating their influences and strengthening their sound, while also embarking on avenues never before heard from the band. It’s an indisputably grand display from the inspired and passionate quartet. Dreams On Toast finds Justin, Dan, Frankie and Rufus continuing to push boundaries. Over two decades deep into their multi-platinum, award-winning career, they offer up unexpected surprises to bedazzle and amaze fans once again in 2025.

    Marseille – History

Marseille has premiered their new single titled 'History' via Echo Bass Records.
Marseille has premiered their new single titled 'History' via Echo Bass Records.

Marseille has today released their new single titled ‘History’ via Echo Bass Records. Awashed in glorious indie sound with a chord progression that surrounds and engulfs you, it only goes up from there with a beautifully tangent take on what music should be at it’s essence.

To say that Marseille has found their sound would be a massive understatement. ‘History’ is a song meant for the stage, felt by the audience, and ingested in unison. Oh, to be a fly on the wall during the writing process of this track. Everything has it’s place and every note fits like a glove.

2025 is going to be a great year for music.

    About Marseille

Hailing from the depths of northern Derbyshire, the five-piece indie rock/shoegaze band have been making waves in the UK music scene, reviving a scene which never really died. At an average age of just 19, the group—featuring Will Brown (vocals), Joe Labram (lead guitar), Lennon Hall (guitar), Will Sabey (bass), and Tom Spray (drums) have already completed a successful UK tour, selling out 150-250 capacity venues.

Marseille have been busy laying down the foundations for an eye catching 2025 after 2 years of grafting, playing encapsulating shows and honing their sound. With the Oasis reunion this year and a new wave of Brit-pop set to sweep the country, it’s an exciting time for Marseille who carry a zero-fucks given swagger with waves of psych, groove and emotion moving through their tracks, making sure the audience never has a moment to lose interest.

‘History’ is a track that really tugs at the heartstrings, a song that is a love letter to the dreams we all had as children, being remembered as a legend of your era. But all the while having that big beat in your face swagger that Marseille naturally carries around wherever they go. A gorgeously well-crafted song which is most excellently brought to life by Wolf Alice’s producer Michael Smith.

On the track, singer Will Brown said, “History is a simple song which applies to any young person with big aspirations. It’s probably the most personal to us as a collective as we fit that criterion. We are 5 young lads that want our legacy to be remembered, and that is one of the most special things that anyone can ever write about.”

Over 2024 Marseille played some very notable shows such as the Quarry Stage at YNOT in front of 4,000 people, Isle Of Wight festival, Manchester Academy 2. They also supported The Twang at Leicester Academy and supported The Bluetones in Lancaster at the Kanteena.

The band have also received backing from clothing brand Pretty Green which is something both parties plan to build on in 2025.

    Geepers! – Lavender

    Geepers! - Lavender
    Geepers! - Lavender

Geepers! has today released his new single titled ‘Lavender’ from his upcoming album ‘Snoozin’’ dropping this spring. Brilliantly written and fabulously conceived, ‘Lavender’ holds no punches as it dances the line between pop, power, dance, and delicacy with a genre-snapping ode to originality and flair.

Light hearted and heavy handed, Geepers! defines the exclamation point in his handle with the style of a musical giant.

    About Geepers!

Based in Long Beach, CA, Geepers! is the musical brainchild of Edison Roberts. The playful track was written, produced, and mixed by Geepers! in just two days and was the last song to be completed for the album. Mastered by his father, Garrison Roberts, the danceable track also features unique instrumentation and sounds that help create a light-hearted and whimsical soundscape. “I have an incredible inclination to shy away from love songs,” Geepers! explains. “I never felt like I had anything new to say when writing one, but this song I finally let myself write a true love song after finding something interesting to focus on, the scent of my partner’s lotion. All while being a little tongue-in-cheek about not having anything new to say.”

Born in Ballston Lake, New York, Geepers! has been immersed in music from a young age. He learned to play the piano from his mother and sang with the worship congregation at church. Known for crafting vibrant, self-produced tracks, Geepers! blends infectious grooves with introspective themes to create a kaleidoscopic soundscape filled with quirky charm, funky rhythms, and heartfelt storytelling. Over the past four years, Geepers! has independently written, recorded, and mixed every note, resulting in a distinctive sonic identity that feels both nostalgic and fresh. From the shout-along energy of “Work!” to the dreamy introspection of “Fine Line,” Geepers! explores life’s highs, lows, and everything in between with a fun-loving yet poignant touch.

Snapped Ankles – Raoul + Tour Dates

Snapped Ankles’ fourth studio album, ‘Hard Times Furious Dancing’, will be released on March 28, 2025, through The Leaf Label. In conjunction to today’s announcement, the band is releasing single “Raoul” together with a stunning music video directed by Gil Anselmi. It’s the timely return of Snapped Ankles! They’ve given up trying to make sense of it all. The forest only offers so much protection. Feeding on a diet of fractured narratives, meme culture, viral moments and the very worst of human impulses weighs heavy. The woodwose hold up a mirror to the absurdity of modern life once again. The only sane response is to dance.

Watch the surrealist video for first single ‘Raoul’ above, a feverish conversation about geopolitics between unreliable narrators over buzzing synths and howling dogs.

Snapped Ankles embark on their biggest tour to date, with a run of over thirty shows in the UK and Europe this spring, including a night at Fabric in London on May 15th.

Hot Water Music – Much Love (ft. The Interrupters) + Tour Dates

Hot Water Music has today released the video for their track titled ‘Much Love’ featuring Aimee Interrupter and Kevin Bivona of The Interrupters, from their latest album ‘Vows’, released via Equal Vision Records.

Part ‘thank you’ and all gratitude to all of those who made Hot Water Music who they are and what they’ve become over the last thirty years, ‘Much Love’ shows that a band doesn’t always forget their roots with success or the music that defined them. A heartfelt track of inclusiveness and a series of monster and anthemic hooks beneath weathered melody and patinaed grit they way only a true set of masters could perform. Originality fit for a time capsule.

About Hot Water Music & ‘Much Love’

Featuring guest vocals from Aimee Interrupter and Kevin Bivona of The Interrupters, “Much Love” is a love letter to the community that has allowed Hot Water Music to thrive for the past three decades. A tribute to the people who have equally sacrificed time, money and energy because they believed in the band, the touching video that pulls together documentary-style clips from over the years illustrates the type of passion and love felt within this family.

“‘Much Love’ is a salute to the Hot Water Music family worldwide, and a simple expression of gratitude for all the years of support from people willing to meet us halfway for the long haul,” frontman Chuck Ragan said. “We were honored to have the incredible talents of Aimee and Kevin of the Interrupters join us on this track.”

Additionally, Hot Water Music recently released its four-song split EP with Quicksand on Equal Vision Records. Featuring classics covered by each band from Quickand’s Slip and Hot Water Music’s No Division, the new EP also features the unreleased tracks “Supercollider,” Quicksand’s first new song since 2021’s Distant Populations, and “Undertow,” a new Hot Water Music song lifted from its Brian McTernan-produced Vows sessions.

Sacrifice. Loyalty. Camaraderie. These aren’t just words, they are the qualities that have defined Hot Water Music’s songs, lyrics and ideology for the past three decades. However, instead of celebrating 30 years of existence with a nostalgia lap or formulaic album, the band decided to mark this milestone with their most ambitious collection of songs to date. Correspondingly, Vows sees the band taking their pioneering punk sound to bold new heights via inventive arrangements, pop-friendly sensibilities and a new generation of musical guests that include Brendan Yates and Daniel Fang of Turnstile, Thrice, Dallas Green of City and Colour and Alexisonfire, The Interrupters, and Popeye Vogelsang of Calling Hours and melodic hardcore greats Farside.

“The theme that kept coming up while working on this record was growth — how writing a song, recording an album, or being in a band is like planting a seed and helping it grow,” the band said. “We think a lot of that had to do with looking back and realizing that over 30 years, we’ve managed to make something special that we all really love.”

Luke Marzec – I Can’t Get You Out Of My Mind

Luke Marzec Channels Amy Winehouse In Retro Yet Timeless New Single
Luke Marzec Channels Amy Winehouse In Retro Yet Timeless New Single "I Can’t Get You Out Of My Mind".

Luke Marzec has today released his new track titled ‘I Can’t Get You Out Of My Mind’ from his upcoming album, ‘Something Good Out Of Nothing’, dropping in to segments: Side A on March 28th and Side B this summer via Swift Half Records.

Before you hit the play button, take a good look at his face. There is the main image and a gallery below. Get that look in yet? This is what I call the ‘Rick Astley Effect’. Want to know what that means? Now hit play. See how looks can be deceiving yet? I say this with no disrespect. But what I am saying is that this is a magnificent voice that you would expect from someone else. The voice is my new muse. Brilliantly weathered and timelessly experienced, the voice is THE voice in everything you want in that voice.

I know the inevitable Amy Winehouse comparisons but, to be honest, ‘I Can’t Get You Out Of My Mind’ could not be done by or with any other artist. Luke feels the vibe, lives the lyric, and owns the song. If soul was the goal then this is a hat trick. Rarely do I revere an artist that I’ve just heard, but, what I heard was inspiration through the speakers. And, isn’t that what great music is supposed to do?

About ‘I Can’t Get You Out Of My Mind’

“It’s a retro sound. It’s a vintage sound but with a twist,” says British multi-instrumentalist, producer, and singer-songwriter Luke Marzec about his new single “I Can’t Get You Out of My Mind.” Taken from his debut album, Something Good Out Of Nothing which will be released in two parts – Side A (release date: March 28) and Side B (to be released in Summer 2025), the single seamlessly balances the spiky, angular verses – that hearken the jazzy R&B vibe of Amy Winehouse – with Marzec’s warm gruff vocals alongside dreamy, reflective choruses and is his most refined and confident work yet. It marks the first release from Swift Half Records, the newly established London-based label that has signed Marzec.

Written during a summer retreat in the woods, “I Can’t Get You Out of My Mind” explores the emotional turbulence of a breakup, opening with a captivating blend of swirling synth arpeggios, before dropping into a captivating groove that fuses funk, soul, and jazz. “We set up a makeshift studio in the woods—a marquee with speakers, a drum machine, and a fire pit. It was raw, intimate, and incredibly inspiring,” recalls Marzec. Inspired by standout tracks from Amy Winehouse’s Back To Black and Arctic Monkeys’ AM, Marzec’s gravelly vocals and sharp songwriting touch on the emotional complexities of loss and regret, guiding listeners through a soundscape of indecision and longing.

Known for his eclectic soundscapes and reflective lyricism, Marzec’s Something Good Out Of Nothing is a heartfelt exploration of nostalgia, passion, and the paradoxes of modern life. With a style that seamlessly weaves vintage influences with cutting-edge electronic elements, Marzec’s music captures the essence of humanity in an era dominated by technology.

Drawing inspiration from the soulful textures of Motown and the raw energy of experimental sound design, Marzec employs instruments like the Prophet synth and Morphagene sampler to reimagine classic sounds in a contemporary context. “This album is about holding onto the old while stepping into the new,” he explains. “It’s a dialogue between the warmth and authenticity of the past and the stark, often dispassionate realities of our digital age.”

Much of the album reflects Marzec’s connection to the natural world and the solace he finds in the countryside. “The countryside is where I reflect on life’s essentials—love, friendship, adventure. It’s where you’re forced to live with imagination and where everything feels honest,” he shares. Contrasting this is the vibrancy and chaos of city life, which he acknowledges as a wellspring of creativity and diversity. “Both are essential; they complement each other.”

Underpinning the album is a broader exploration of the human condition. Marzec wrestles with the contradictions of modernity—hope and despair, sincerity and cynicism—and finds beauty in their coexistence. “It’s about living with passion, embracing the highs and lows, and staying connected to the things that truly matter,” he says.

Luke Marzec’s forthcoming album promises to be a poignant reflection on life, blending history with modernity and the deeply personal with the universal. It’s an invitation to pause, reflect, and reconnect with what it means to live authentically in a rapidly changing world.

Having studied classical and jazz styles at the Royal College of Music and Trinity Conservatoire, Marzec first broke onto the music scene with his debut EP Chances in 2017. His journey has since seen him collaborate with acclaimed artists, including Maverick Sabre, VC Pines, Benjamin Francis Leftwich, and Jazzanova, as well as Johannes Brecht on the widely appreciated Voicing Something—remixed by Adriatique.

Marzec continues to push his musical boundaries with Headroom, a London-based jam session that he hosts, featuring top jazz and electronic musicians from across the city. He is also part of Lazy H and the Loose Cables, an experimental synth-jazz group known for its avant-garde soundscapes.

Luke Marzec’s new single “I Can’t Get You Out of My Mind” is out today. Side A of his self-produced debut album, Something Good Out Of Nothing will be released on March 28, 2025.

    Michele Ducci – Even Before

Michele Ducci has today premiered his new video and track titled ‘Even Before’ from his upcoming album ‘NUBA Live Tape’ dropping January 24th via Monotreme Records.

A somewhat sweet taster for what is to come with the new album, ‘Even Before’ adds a bit of electro-beat and beautifully captivating rhythm with stellar vocals done in an almost acapella way.

While ‘Even Before’ is a slow burn of a track, almost creeping up behind you at times, there is a simmer about the track that keeps you interested and curious about the artist behind the music.

‘Even Before’ adds a bit of clarity and appreciation to an already original artist, widening the space of creativity and closing the range of originality with an outside-of-the-box presentation of visual married to a sonic soundscape that tells a story and lets you become a part of it.

Check out our other features with Michele Ducci HERE.

    About ‘Even Before’

The track then slows into a dreamy waltz for the outro. Letizia Mandolesi’s bright backing vocals in the chorus and delicate sighs in the outro beautifully accentuate Ducci’s warm melodic vocals. Accompanying the single is a cosmic animated video created by Ducci and Mandolesi.

About the song, Ducci says, “Even Before was born in scenes, as a movie. I had found a ten euro Bontempi keyboard and I let it do almost everything, playing it all live together with Letizia.

I have been reflecting for a long time on the absolute of change: it gives itself as an inverted perspective. It’s like a chorus in a song: coexistence of past and present, of a past that insists on a present that coexists with it and that, passing by, is the intrusion of an unpredictable novelty. You always find yourself in the middle of an act that was already in action before it was done and that, being fulfilled, becomes something that is no longer possible but fatally real. Deja: Jamais: Encore. It is an eternal return that is like a magical infinitesimal calculation, lived in the depths of what I call myself. It is the experience, the passage, that resonates in its immediate data like a chorus: an ocean of sive, of ‘that is’, that are the foundation of every ‘where’ and every ‘when’, as in the passages between verse and chorus: an incessant translation into, which is a crossing, not an impasse, but an impassage: an even before to which we must go back to probe the experience in its immediate data. It is an experience of variation that is done at the limit, near infinity.

Letizia and I drew the video by hand and it is a sort of twin of the song: a cosmic paraeidolia…the experience that makes itself felt in the foreground like a procession of faces still in the making: a chorus. The song as a sort of paramnestic paraeidolia of creative evolution. All of my work is all about that.”

    Dirty Blonde – Polly

Labelled as one of Classic Rock’s Ones to Watch for 2025, alt-rock band, Dirty Blonde announce new EP Looking for Trouble alongside new single ‘Polly’. Blending “searing garage punk and vintage rock tropes” (Clash Magazine), Dirty Blonde’s latest track, ‘Polly’, bursts onto the scene with grunge-infused guitar riffs. Channeling the raw energy of Pixies, the narrative flair of Taylor Swift, and the bold swagger of 90s Garbage, this sapphic anthem captures the unpredictable thrill of falling in love. Featured on their upcoming Looking for Trouble EP, ‘Polly’ cements Dirty Blonde’s status as rising heavyweights in their genre. Their new EP will be released on 17th April following the band’s UK tour for Independent Venue Week.

Manchester’s Dirty Blonde are a blonde-bombshell alt-rock duo, fronted by the powerhouse pairing of Ailis Mackay (vocals, guitar, drums) and Hayley Tait (guitar, backing vocals). Since forming in January 2023, they’ve shared the stage with acts such as Frank Carter and the Sex Pistols, The Lottery Winners, Cast, The Subways, and The K’s. Their debut EP, Favourite Record quickly grabbed the attention of tastemakers at BBC Radio 1 and Radio X, landing spots on major Spotify playlists, and scoring a video feature on Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch. Nels Hylton at BBC Radio 1 also labelled the band “One of the most exciting bands to come through Future Alternative. A two piece with the world at their feet.”

In the bold, unapologetic world of Looking For Trouble, it’s all leopard print, red lipstick, and leather jackets—a perfect backdrop for these girls making waves in the rock scene. In their new EP, Dirty Blonde prove that authenticity is their signature sound. Tracks like ‘Adore Me’ and ‘Polly’ carry a sly charm, serving as the “nicer cousins” to the fierce anthems ‘Checkmate’ and ‘Rush’, while previous single ‘Northern Twang’ stands as the powerful matriarch anchoring it all. Writing the EP was more than just a creative process—it was cathartic, offering a rare moment of reflection. Dirty Blonde reminds us that women in rock aren’t just part of the scene—they’re redefining it.

Speaking of current single ‘Polly’, the band say, “We wrote ‘Polly’ about that messy, crying on your bathroom floor, unpredictable side of falling in love that no one talks about. Someone can give you all the reassurance in the world but how do you know that it won’t all come crashing down?”

Falling in love is often romanticised as effortless and idyllic, but Dirty Blonde’s ‘Polly’ dives headfirst into the other side that isn’t so widely spoken about. Despite its emotional depth, ‘Polly’ keeps an upbeat vibe, capturing the exhilaration of love while staying honest about its complexities. Born out of a spontaneous collaboration with their producer during a COVID-induced break, the song started as a fast-paced grunge experiment before evolving into its current form. The band also release their DIY music video for ‘Polly’ complete with yellow lyric captions inspired by Arab-Australian artist Sarah Bahbah.

Dirty Blonde have also launched their new YouTube series titled In Bed With Dirty Blonde (episode 1 here) which sees the duo talking through their songwriting techniques and other band anecdotes as well as answering fan questions. Last summer, the band hit the festival circuit hard, tearing up over 20 stages, including a game-changing set at the Isle of Wight Festival where they opened the second stage. Add in further knock-out performances at The Great Escape, Truck, Y Not, and NBHD festivals, and it’s no wonder they’re being hailed as one of the UK’s hottest new live acts. After the success of previous EP Favourite Record, Dirty Blonde’s return reaffirms their status in Manchester’s alt-rock scene. Described as “Your dad’s new favorite band”, this EP is just the start of their journey and the future is looking blonde…

Wendy James – The Shape Of History

Wendy James has today released her new video for the track titled ‘The Shape Of History’ from her album of the same name.

Signature snark steeped in musical history with a flair for the original and panache from the heart, Wendy takes everything she’s done from then to now and brings forth that rebelliousness and wild child eternal youth in a bottle for the masses that desperately need it. Having been beating down and fucked up by recent history, we all need that throwback to innocence to be led by a raised fist with a middle finger extended letting us know we only need care about those around us in order for us to all care about each other.

    About ‘The Shape Of History’

Wendy has now shared the title track, the latest single from the album. She explains: “Some things never change, I’ll always be the wild girl dancing on tabletops till dawn. I love the movie ‘Smithereens’ (1982) by director Susan Seidelman (before she made ‘Desperately Seeking Susan’). That movie woke me up, a clarion call! Where I belonged! Where I was headed! Downtown NYC. I had my first crush from that movie! Richard Hell is so pouty, so mean, but quite nice too?! The opening scene with actress Susan Berman as Wren, going down into the subway and stealing the two-tone sunglasses out of the hands of another passenger, all to the hypnotic sound of The Feelies ‘The Boy With The Perpetual Nervousness’ was everything I wanted! Wren goes to the Peppermint Lounge every night to hand out flyers for herself. It’s a rock’n’roll look at broke down NYC, The Bowery and The Lower East Side. For me, this is heaven! My teenage years in Ladbroke Grove had their share of misdeeds, scrapes and hi-capers in the West London underworld, but when I listen to my New York musician friends talk about their time in no-electricity lofts, no elevators, rats, junkies, thieves, my heart goes zing! So that’s what this is! It’s ‘The Shape Of History’, my history. It’s Desperately Seeking Susan, It’s Smithereens, it’s Scorsese’s ‘After Hours’, it’s CBGB, it’s Max’s Kansas City, The Peppermint Lounge, it’s downtown NYC, it’s Cindy Wilson screaming “I’ll give you fish, I’ll give you candy” It’s me, forever, dancing on tables tops til dawn.”

The video, edited by David Leigh Dodd, she adds, “is an incredible collection of my history and makes such overwhelming accompaniment to the song”.

“My songwriting has always been a wide mix of sounds, which naturally reflect the different music and references I have and love. ‘The Shape Of History’ was recorded on Scrubs Lane, West London with Alex Ward, Harry Bohay and James Sclavunos. I then went off to NYC and Brooklyn to record the pianos and organs with Dave ‘The Moose’ Sherman. Overdubbing continued with Al Lawson at the engineering helm in his Shepherd’s Bush studio and then I went back to Berkeley, CA to mix with Jesse Nichols before mastering with Fred Kevorkian in Brooklyn NY. I have spent so much time with this music, I know it note-for-note and love it and am so happy for you to make it your own now”.

“‘The Shape Of History’ has a lot about love in it, a lot about appreciation of oneself, one’s life and importantly, of others. It is life’s arc of starting out, blooming into something and in some ways maturing. I don’t think my music has got older, I know I’ve not gone mellow! My attitude can be more ferocious and fearless than ever, but there is an acquired wisdom, which naturally comes after having been alive for a few decades! ‘The Shape Of History’ is a love letter and a Thank you note to life so far. The culmination of my tenth album is the result of co-musicians and engineers who I’ve worked with previously and with whom I share a language. We know each other, we choose to work together. We enjoy each other’s talents and personalities. There is a happiness, a belonging, when we meet up, and an open and determined desire to achieve what we know we have to”.

“From meeting Nick Christian Sayer and forming Transvision Vamp, the two of us walking into EMI Records and demanding to see the head of Artists and Repertoire, Dave Ambrose. Getting signed and making our hits of the late 80’s and 90’s. From collaborating with Elvis Costello and mixing that album at Sunset Sound in Hollywood where The Stones mixed ‘Exile On Main St’, then moving to NYC to start writing and recording as a solo artist, all the gigs I’ve played and the friends I’ve made around the world, the astounding, incredible, wonderful people whose lives I’ve crossed paths with… I am so grateful for it all.”

The Gentle Spring – Looking Back At The World

    The Gentle Spring
    The Gentle Spring

The Gentle Spring are a new group, formed by Michael Hiscock, Emilie Guillaumot and Jérémie Orsel. Michael has an illustrious pop history, having been a founder member of The Field Mice, possibly the most beloved band on Sarah Records in the 1990s. And with The Gentle Spring, it seems that history is repeating itself…

When Michael and his friend Bobby Wratten formed The Field Mice, the two of them very quickly created a set of songs whose emotional honesty, raw guitars and perfect pop melodies pierced the hearts of a generation of indiepop fans, kids who were unmoved by the posturing of mainstream indie, and who didn’t want to spend time in fields dancing at 24-hour raves. The Field Mice were the band who defined the meaning and the spirit of Sarah Records. Defiantly in love with pop, defiantly un-macho, defiantly… sensitive.

And now, remarkably, Michael has done it again. With his new musical partner Emilie, The Gentle Spring have created a fresh new iteration of indiepop music. Once again, the songs are unafraid of raw emotions, brutally honest and is still in love with big pop melodies. They are still…. sensitive.

But life is seen through a different lens now. There is wisdom, there is experience, and there is the ability to look back at the world with a mixture of regret and joy. These are very adult songs, and the arrangements reflect this. Rich acoustic guitars and Emilie’s haunting keyboard have replaced hectic drum machines and urgent distortion. And there is a third element to this music. Jérémie Orsel’s sophisticated guitar adds textures and melodies that give these songs a real depth, while maintaining an enigmatic distance, never quite overwhelming the vocal line.

So things are clearer now. But feelings are just as strong. The pain of unrequited love that made Field Mice songs so poignant hasn’t gone away. In some ways, the thought of roads not taken is more profound when experienced in retrospect. I Can’t Have You As A Friend entertains this notion, still moved by the allure of a different life, but shuddering with fear at what might have happened. Also still haunted by the past, The Girl Who Ran Away conjures up the ghost of a previous failed relationship, which threatens to undermine happiness in the present. In Severed Hearts, sung by Emilie, there is the stark recognition that some endings really are final: sometimes there can be no reconciliations. But the song cleverly moves on from this: it acknowledges that, even after the worst emotional loss, you have to pick yourself, you will move on. It’s sophisticated and it’s mature – but it will still break your heart.

Sugartown is another song that plays this trick on you. It insists that there will always be lightness and shade. It warns you against complacency, but does it so kindly that you feel like you’ve been embraced. When Michael’s and Emilie’s vocals combine in the final chorus, telling us that we don’t live in Sugartown, you know they are right – and yet the sweetness of the singing makes you feel that – just for a moment – you do.

Looking Back At The World has the strongest echoes of The Field Mice. It is a celebration of the past, which includes all those classic 90s pop songs, But it’s also a call to arms: whatever we choose to do next is much more important than memories of long-gone happiness. The Gentle Spring are the future now.

The band perform as a trio and have already found a keen audience in France, where they are based. During a short tour of the UK in January, to coincide with this release, British audiences will get their first opportunities to see The Gentle Spring play these new songs live. They will be back in London to play at the Skep Wax Weekender wegottickets.com/event/13685/, with Michael’s old Sarah Records label-mates Heavenly, in July.

Sam Robbins – What A Little Love Can Do

Sam Robbins’ third album, So Much I Still Don’t See is a testament to a singer songwriter’s journey through his 20’s, through his formative years of 45,000 miles per year touring and the beginning of a troubadour’s career. Most of all, it is the culmination of firsthand experiences gathered through hard travel and big adventures.

For the listener, these big adventures are heard through a soft, introspective soundscape, with sounds built sparingly around solo acoustic guitar and vocals, tracked live, just as they are performed live. Recorded in an old church in Springfield, MA, the sounds of So Much I Still Don’t See center around the humility that comes with traveling and experiencing a world much larger than yourself – looking inward and reveling in the quiet of the inner mind while facing an expansive landscape of life on the road. The storytelling in the songs is draped with touches of upright bass, keyboards, organ, and electric guitar, but the core of the album is one man and his worn out Martin guitar, bought new just a few years ago a week after moving to Nashville.

The sonic landscape of So Much I Still Don’t See was largely inspired by the recordings of James Taylor, Jim Croce, Harry Chapin and singer songwriters of the like. Growing up in New Hampshire, Robbins would frequently drive up to the white mountains for weekend hiking trips with his father, accompanied in the old truck by a 70’s singer songwriter CD box set. This music seeped into Robbins’ soul, and coupled with experiencing the mountain landscape of his childhood, this “old soul singer songwriter” was shaped by these recordings and the direct, soft and exacting songwriting voices that they exemplified. The storytelling in So Much I Still Don’t See is built through small moments.

After a brief stint on NBC’s The Voice in 2018, Robbins graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2019 and quickly made his move down to Nashville. After a tumultuous five years in Music City, So Much I Still Don’t See is the first recording made after moving back to the Boston area in early 2024. After trying his hand at co-writing country songs five days a week, Robbins found his way to a home on the road, now performing over 200 shows per year in listening rooms and festivals across the country.

This touring and subsequent songwriting growth has led to several awards and festival performances, making Robbins a 2021 Kerrville Folk Festival New Folk contest winner, a 2022 Falcon Ridge Folk Festival “Most Wanted to Return” artist, and later a solo mainstage performer at each festival in 2023 and 2024. Robbins has expanded his touring to festivals nationwide, including the Wheatland Festival in Michigan, the Fox Valley Folk Music and Storytelling Festival, and has earned a title as “One of the most promising new songwriters of his generation” — Mike Davies, Fateau Magazine, UK

In early 2023, Robbins was gifted Marcus Aurelius’s “Meditations”, a collection of the Roman Emperor’s diaries in the early 100’s AD. The ideas from this book, centered around the concepts of stoicism, seeped into the songs of So Much I Still Don’t See. Much of the album reflects on the inner peace found through stoic philosophy that was discovered in reading this book throughout the past year on the road.

Another influence on the songwriting of So Much I Still Don’t See is Robbins’ work with the group Music Therapy Retreats. This is the first recording made after starting his work with the organization, which pairs songwriters with veterans to help write their often unheard and inspiring stories into songs. This life changing and life-affirming experience has drawn out deeper emotions and deeper stories in Robbins’ own writing and music, inspired by the open hearts and stories of the veterans he is lucky to work with.

The first single off the album, “What a Little Love Can Do” is a song that captured a moment. Sitting in Nashville after hearing the news of a shooting in the city, Robbins sat alone with his guitar and strummed. Living in the heart of a red state, far away from his New England home, the events of the day made the cracks appear clearer than he’d ever seen them. The first lyrics that appeared in that moment are the first lyrics in the song – “It’s gonna be a long road when we look at where we started, one nation broken hearted, always running from ourselves”. The heaviness of the news of the day, and the news of every day since, has not subsided since this song was written in 2023.

What led from that lyric was a flow-state writing process. A story of the learning and connections built from Robbins’ travels across the US on tour, driving over 100,000 miles in two years, playing hundreds of shows and meeting thousands of people from very different backgrounds. From Birmingham to Detroit, New Orleans to Los Angeles, Boston to Denver, this song was unknowingly written as the culmination of the lessons learned from these adventures. The depth of connection found when we are physically with one another, when we can talk and laugh and truly see each other, is at the heart of “What a Little Love Can Do”, and the album as a whole.

The sonic landscape of “What a Little Love Can Do” is unique on the album- it is the only song that begins with a stark, soft piano moment, played gently by Seth Glier. The interweaving of piano and acoustic guitar on this track are indicative of Robbins’ live shows and sonic sensibilities as a whole. Bringing together the warmth of the guitar, piano and Sam’s own warm lead vocals, “What a Little Love Can Do” is the perfect kickoff to his third album, So Much I Still Don’t See.

An Exclusive Interview with Blood Lemon + New EP ‘Petite Deaths’

Jammerzine has an exclusive interview with Melanie Radford and Lisa Simpson from the original trio known as Blood Lemon. While I can confidently say that Blood Lemon is now officially one of my favorite indie bands for 2025, I learn why in this interview. They’re fans as much as they are musicians. They don’t just go through the motions and let the money roll in. They love music. I know that’s not a usual thing to say, or maybe I’m saying the quiet part out loud, but here it is.

And, with their new EP ‘Petite Deaths’ (out today, review below) there is a bright spot in the music scene showing that originality is alive and well and that bands and artists can still find that signature sound and make something thoughtful and memorable with it.

Today, we get to talk with Lisa and Melanie about that sound and how ‘Petite Deaths’ came to be as well as the state of the music industry and the world in general plus much more.

Blood Lemon is on tour now. Check out the dates below.

Check out our other features with Blood Lemon HERE.

    ‘Petite Deaths’

‘Petite Deaths’ is an arrival as much as it is an EP. Five songs bathed in sonic glory and harmony that give a glimpse of a power trio that is a power trio in the truest sense of the phrase, well, power trio. A delicate mix of mud and melody guitar, grit, grime, and glamorous glory take aim at the social-scape of the current world at large and life’s lessons learned with personal and provocative twists (check out the interview above as to a glimpse of the album’s title), there is a depth in the music and a marriage between said music and the lyrics that make ‘Petite Deaths’ a personal set of tracks to keep close to the heart.

My favorite aspect of ‘Petite Deaths’, however, is the way the music and meaning explore music itself, without seeming contrived or forced. There are nods to rock, from anthemic and stadium to close and personal, with an alternative when alternative was the alternative, colliding with the angst and anarchy one might expect, but it’s genuine. It’s from a trio of artists that love what they do and do it with flair. And it’s delivered with layered vocal harmonies and emotion that paint the canvas with bright colors over the filth of life.

    About ‘Petite Deaths’

Recorded at the storied Rancho De La Luna studio in Joshua Tree with esteemed producer Dave Catching (Desert Sessions, Queens of the Stone Age, earthlings?), this 5 song collection masterfully echoes the vastness of the desert it was shaped in. But beyond the desert’s influence, Petite Deaths also tells a story of the intimate journey of creation, both musical and personal: the band’s drummer/percussionist Lindsey Lloyd learned she would be expecting the birth of her first daughter, Zenith, once recording was wrapped.

While the songs on Petite Deaths are, no doubt, less overtly political than the band’s eponymous debut LP, they are no less provocative. The EP’s title is a reference to the French phrase petite mort or “small death,” used as a euphemism for the grand sensation that arrives post-orgasm (much like Tori Amos’ landmark Little Earthquakes). Bassist (and current Built to Spill member) Melanie Radford explains, “When we were deciding on the title of this 5-song EP, we realized each of these songs felt like flashes of life and death. Each of them are ‘epic’ in their own way: small bursts of either pleasure or despair, tied together by a large musical landscape.”

Blood Lemon’s debut received praise from outlets like NPR Music, A.V. Club, SPIN and beyond, garnering comparisons to other beloved female-fronted influences like Sleater-Kinney and The Breeders. Following appearances at Treefort Music Fest, as well as dates supporting avant-garage heavy hitters The Shivas and viral goth-punks Vision Video, the band began working on music with widened emotional registers. Petite Deaths is the result of that period, and a testament to how these three women continue to invent (and reinvent) themselves through a shared love of song and embracing change with resourcefulness.

    About Blood Lemon

The desert often represents scarcity, a place where few signs of life can be found. For the women in Blood Lemon, however, trading their homebase in the high desert of Boise, Idaho for the low desert in Joshua Tree, California would prove to be the right choice to give the five songs found on Petite Deaths their final form.

“Small bursts of either pleasure or despair,” says bassist and vocalist Melanie Radford of the collection comprising Blood Lemon’s sophomore release. “I think what came out was something eclectic and mystic,” she added. Using the seemingly scant resources of the Mojave, Radford, guitarist and vocalist Lisa Simpson, and drummer/percussionist Lindsey Lloyd, culled together their strongest set of songs to date.

Working alongside esteemed fuzz lord Dave Catching (Desert Sessions, Queens of the Stone Age, earthlings?) at the storied Rancho De La Luna studio, the band treated the sessions as a retreat rather than a routine visit to a recording studio. To make the most of the time away from Boise, the band stayed in an adjacent bungalow on the property, seizing an opportunity to “briefly get away from distractions in our immediate lives,” says Radford.

Blood Lemon, a mainstay of the Boise scene despite Radford’s recent move to nearby Seattle, received plenty of praise for their eponymous debut released in the throes of the pandemic. NPR Music, A.V. Club, SPIN, and other outlets of repute lauded their debut that garnered comparisons to other beloved female-fronted influences like Sleater-Kinney and The Breeders. Following celebrated appearances at Treefort Music Fest in their hometown as well as dates supporting avant-garage heavy hitters The Shivas and viral goth-punks Vision Video, the band crafted a collection of songs with widened emotional registers when Radford was on break from serving as the current bassist of indie stalwarts Built To Spill.

While the songs on Petite Deaths are, no doubt, less overtly political than the band’s debut LP, they are no less provocative. The record’s opener, “High Tide,” explores Simpson’s fascination with “concepts around sensuality and completion” and “what other languages and cultures called an orgasm.” Echoing the aforementioned Breeders’ penchant for blending distorted guitars with entrancing female vocals, the track provides plenty of overdrive alongside lyrics that speak to our animalistic tendency to seduce and be seduced. Thoroughly couched in metaphor, Simpson’s lyrics might still pass as classroom-appropriate in her new role as a teacher at her daughter’s elementary school in Boise.

Other songs on the collection put Radford’s ethereal vocals and erudite bass playing on full display, often branching out into new territory. For example, “Her Shadow” was “an experiment on how to collaborate differently,” says Radford of using Lloyd’s pre-written lyrics as a basis to develop melodies and chords around. A sludged-out reworking of Jessica Pratt’s “Mountain’r Lower” also gives plenty of room for the band’s psychedelic and more other-worldly influences to shine through. With searing lead guitars and pulsing rhythms, the collection’s first single, “Perfect Too,” offers a scathing critique of contemporary culture’s tendency to sell perfectionism without any promise of moral salvation.

“Mudlark,” another song with Simpson’s voice at the forefront, is equally full of wonder. Inspired by Scottish actor Sam Heughan’s review of Mudlarking, a novel by Lara Maiklem, the song explores the theme of scavengers who meander riverbanks for hidden treasures. An “unabashed” fan of Heughan’s work as an actor and author, Simpson gravitated towards imagery in his review of the novel, and in her words, of “a person being a possession that ends up being tossed away, and hidden beneath the surface of the riverbed.” The result, an expansively melancholic track that crescendos into one of the band’s signature dirges toward the end of its six-plus minutes of runtime, exhibits how the band can hold an audience’s attention with songs longer than those conforming to traditional radio formats.

Beyond the expansiveness of the desert influencing the sonic landscape of Petite Deaths, birth also became a central component of the album’s creative force. Following the recording sessions, Lloyd soon learned that she would be expecting the birth of her first daughter, Zenith. Lloyd’s dedication to the band was underscored when the band performed a show in the winter of 2023 in the last weeks of her pregnancy. Well aware that scheduling any major life decisions while playing in an active band can be difficult, Lloyd notes that “the timing of making the record couldn’t have been better.”

As the final notes fade and captured sounds of coyotes howling in the Mojave fill the silence, the listener is immersed in the stark beauty of the desert and the transformative power of collaboration. Petite Deaths is a testament to how these three women continue to invent – and reinvent – themselves through a shared love of song and embracing change with resourcefulness. The album stands as a powerful statement, echoing with the vastness of the desert and the intimate journey of creation, both musical and personal.

Tessa Rose Jackson – A Mirror Sometimes

Tessa Rose Jackson - A Mirror Sometimes
Tessa Rose Jackson - A Mirror Sometimes

Tessa Rose Jackson has today released her new EP titled ‘A Mirror Sometimes’. Like a welcomed old friend, reuniting after a long hiatus, ‘A Mirror Sometimes’ has all of those familiarities of that safe place with a songwriter’s scope and a visionist’s flair.

A bit subdued at times with eureka moments fluttering throughout, the EP leaves you wanting and longing for more from an artist masquerading as a concept when, in fact, this is part of who she is. An artist in a transition of growth by finding her sound and making it our taste. This is where the indie scene should be headed, not necessarily in style but in ambition.

    About ‘A Mirror Sometimes’

The EP is a testament to Jackson’s love of collaboration, featuring a host of artists who helped her craft a sonically rich and cohesive project. It will be released amidst a major European tour where Jackson will join acclaimed singer-songwriter William Fitzsimmons as the opening act.

The focus track, “Hell or High Water”, captures a deeply personal and reflective moment, stemming from a collaboration with her longtime friend and former bandmate, Benjamin Longman.

“Two old friends, separated by the Atlantic for the larger part of adulthood, and a grandiose conversation about growing older,” says Jackson. “When Benjamin and I were teenagers, studying at the BRIT School in London, we were in a band and spent every minute together in the studio or on stage. Since then, Ben has moved to Canada, and our music-making days became limited. But on the cherished occasions that Ben makes the voyage over to the UK, we get together and an old, trusted muscle is flexed.”

The song explores themes of aging, growth, and acceptance, with Jackson noting how these conversations inspired a more relaxed and open perspective:

“The inevitable transient nature of life actually acts as a motivator to go with the flow a little. A bit less ‘my way or the high way.’ A bit less ‘come hell or high water.’”

Following a year that saw Jackson expand her artistry in groundbreaking ways—including contributing five original tracks to the soundtrack of the highly anticipated video game Life Is Strange: Double Exposure—A Mirror Sometimes is an invitation to dive deeper into her evolving sonic world.

“‘A Mirror Sometimes’ is a passion project that colored my year magical,” Jackson shares. “It started out as an experiment—writing with songwriters I admire to shake up my creativity—but it turned into something much more profound. Each collaboration brought a new spark of inspiration, reminding me of the pure joy of making music.”

The seven-track EP is a celebration of creative synergy, featuring a diverse roster of collaborators, including Noon Garden, Nana Adjoa, and Caoilian Sherlock. Jackson’s unique ability to blend her signature delicate indie sound with the styles of her collaborators has resulted in an EP that is both richly textured and remarkably cohesive.

From the raw vulnerability of “The Boulder” (a collaboration with Milo of The Shells, born from pandemic-era introspection) to the effortless flow of her track with Benjamin Longman (a reunion with her earliest musical partner from her BRIT School days), A Mirror Sometimes reflects the transformative power of music as both therapy and connection.

Drawing comparisons to Feist, Laura Marling, and Sharon Van Etten, Jackson continues to strike a balance between the familiar and the new, crafting songs that resonate deeply with listeners.

In addition to the release of A Mirror Sometimes, Jackson’s contributions to the Life Is Strange: Double Exposure soundtrack have debuted in tandem with the game’s release, including a special edition vinyl via Feel For Music.

With radio support from Paul Gallagher, Radio FIP, KCRW, and Amazing Radio already building excitement, A Mirror Sometimes is poised to solidify Jackson’s return to her own name as a milestone moment in her career.

Later. has today released their new album titled ‘Golden Bay’ as well as their new live session video for the track titled ‘Cold Touch’ via Cookie Records.

From brutal truths to honest visions and such a wide kaleidoscope of sonic visuals ten tracks of variation and narration colliding in such a way that it’s difficult to describe the canvas it’s on yet stand there in awe because now it simply exists.

While you will hear soul and pop mixed with hints of rock in a way that is progressive and fresh, there is a poetic license and sense of courage to tread where angels and artists fear to tread that takes everything to another level and, hopefully, will define this decade of define-less music.

Check out our other features with Later. HERE.

    About ‘Golden Bay’

Four silhouettes levitating above an endless expanse of sand, their movements being captured like stolen from time, that is the cover image of Later.’s sophomore album ‘Golden Bay’. This striking visual sets the tone for an album that delves into profound themes—exploring the sacred, the transformative power of music, and love as a gateway to an inner world. It offers a dreamlike escape into a world governed by instinct, passion, and freedom. ‘Golden Bay’ stands out with its distinctive fusion of electronic-pop, gospel, and rock influences. The prominent use of synthetic sounds intertwined with organic elements creates this warm feeling of being at the heart of Later.’s imagination. Lyrically, the album is infused with a blend of sensuality and raw honesty, retaining the unfiltered emotion that has become a hallmark of Later.’s music.

The band say: “This whole album was built like a trip. After our first album it was hard for us to figure out where we wanted to go musically. We never made as many demos and drafts- almost forty or fifty – for any release before. Then suddenly Paul played a guitar riff and we knew that something had been unlocked in our creative process, like a revelation, it later became our album opener ‘Open the Gates’. Everything escalated from this first melody and we began seeing the picture of what we wanted sonically: prominent synths creating this levitating feeling, powerful uplifting guitars and lyrics that captured the almost spiritual high we get when creating music. Every time we hit the studio, ‘Golden Bay’ became this sacred space—our escape where we could let go and liberate ourselves. Overall it’s a pop album, but it has this raw energy and carefree spirit that we wanted to preserve throughout the use of live sounds. Our biggest wish with this album is that the listeners embark on a trip and feel the way we do when we’re in the studio, at 3am, and we don’t want to stop because you have to catch these rare moments when inspiration strikes you, and you become the messenger of something beautiful.”

    About Later.

Some stories start in a rather unconventional way. When Charles, Paul, Noah and Theo met, they knew they had in common their passion for music. Reuniting every week in a studio in the bustling district of Pigalle, friendship and creation grew together punctuated by everlasting coffee-breaks and shares of dreams, ultimately forming the Later. band. The band is full of contradictions and has a thirst to stay out of the conventional schemes of the industry. English-speaking but French, their songs find inspiration in a variety of styles and eras (pop, soul, french-touch, rock…) in order to craft an intimate, spontaneous yet richly-produced music.

In 2019, their story draws attention of French label Kitsuné which releases their first single ‘L.Y.E’. Soon after, they engage with the label Cookie Records and sign two EPs and their debut album, played on multiple radios across Europe. The French news even compared them to Daft Punk in a special broadcast about the iconic duo. Only one year into the project. Their star track ‘Highway 10’ even gets played and shared from space by astronaut Thomas Pesquet on his last mission. Drawing the attention of major netflix shows ‘Emily in Paris’, ‘Never Have I Ever’; their debut album ‘Walking on the Line’ (2023) uncovered a mature band that refused to restrain themselves to a particular genre but offer their own authentic vision. Celebrated across Europe, their ‘Walking on the Line’ tour reached a high point with a sold-out show at Paris’ iconic venue, La Cigale.

    Charlotte Morris – As Is

    Charlotte Morris - As Is
    Charlotte Morris - As Is

Charlotte Morris has today released her new song titled ‘As Is’ from her upcoming album ‘Both Sides’. A songwriter’s take on that sly mix of country charm and songwriting from yesteryear, ‘As Is’ gives a sweet and solemn take on that style from AM radio with a story behind the music and meaning behind the words.

While some may feel this is a bit retro or mainstream, remember that the best music takes the sounds of the past and pushed them forward with originality that makes it something more. Not merely imitating what was and came before, ‘As Is’ is exactly what the title says. In every way. And what is to come.

Check out our other features with Charlotte Morris HERE.

    About ‘As Is’

The song is co-written by Jake Arthur, mixed by Bryce Roberts, and features a stellar ensemble of musicians who create a stripped-down roots soundscape that perfectly highlights Charlotte’s soaring vocals. Already gaining praise for her authentic storytelling and dynamic performances, Morris and her upcoming album Both Sides are making waves in the folk and Americana world, with previous recognition from outlets like No Depression and Music Mecca.

Charlotte Morris, a Philadelphia native, is a rising folk artist known for her earnest, purpose-driven style and dynamic performances. Inspired by artists like Brandi Carlile and The Chicks, she has released impactful music, including her debut EP To New York, With Love (2018), her album Songs For My Next Ex (2020), and her internationally praised 2023 album, Wild Child. Following a 30-city international tour in 2024, she is now back in Philadelphia, preparing to release her next album, Both Sides, the title of which is inspired by Joni Mitchell’s seminal work “Both Sides Now.”

    About Charlotte Morris

Growing up outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Charlotte Morris discovered her passion for music at a young age. After starting violin lessons at the age of 4, Charlotte taught herself how to play the guitar, piano (and melodica), ukulele, banjo, acoustic bass guitar, and mandolin, and began taking her songwriting seriously by the age of 12. Describing her unique style as genuine, raw, and emotional music with a purpose, Charlotte takes inspiration from female-driven artists like Delta Rae, Brandi Carlile, Sara Bareilles, Liz Longley, Maren Morris, and The Chicks.

In January 2018, Charlotte joined Lonesome Traveler – a concert tour that performed the history of folk music, starting with Woody Guthrie and ending with songs by the likes of Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell. Charlotte released her debut EP To New York, with Love in June 2018 and has since released a number of singles and another five-song EP (produced by Nashville-based Mitch Dane) entitled Sputnik. In 2019, Charlotte embarked on her first fully-acoustic tour, performing in over fifteen different cities across the US. She released her first full-length album, Songs For My Next Ex, in December 2020.

After moving to Nashville in 2021, Charlotte released “Good Kind of Hurt”, a deeply personal song about addiction and PTSD, in June 2022, with the hope of spurring more conversation around the difficulties and misunderstandings of mental illness. She followed up that success with her nostalgia-filled, folk-driven, single “Tennessee”, and then, “Your Number One”, a driving song of empowerment. All of these singles led up to the release of Wild Child, Charlotte’s 2nd studio album, which took the industry by storm in September 2023. The album, personal, vulnerable, and authentic, has impacted listeners worldwide; from live television and radio performances to extensive radio play in the Netherlands, Canada, and more, the album serves as an example of just how powerful music can be.

In the Spring of 2024, Charlotte hit the road for a 30-city international tour, wowing audiences with her captivating stage presence and conversational show dynamic. While on the road, Charlotte came to the realization that it was time to return to her roots and head back to Philadelphia. Back on the East Coast, with another album on the way and her eyes already on the next tour, it’s clear things are just getting started for this rising artist.

When the singer-songwriter is not writing or releasing music, she travels across the country in her converted van with her pup and is an avid crossword puzzler.

    BRÜKA – Violence

Texas black metal entity BRÜKA has released a music video for “Violence,” the second single from its long-awaited debut album, Death’s Promise, out now via the band and Pest Productions.

The band states: “Back in blood with another token of devotion to solidify our claim. This second presentation is dedicated to the speciality of mankind, and his endless repetition of doom known since the dawn of humanity. Just as violence begets violence, BRÜKA declares dominion.”

Emerging from the forbidden depths and forgotten shadows of the Texas underground, BRÜKA has burned a path through the state, delivering raw, merciless energy upon revealing their decrepit and unholy presence with the release of DEMO 2020.

From their first incantations, this shadowed four-piece has established a fearsome reputation in central Texas and has solidified itself among those who carry the black flame. Their influences run deep, from the haunting atmospheres of Dissection to the relentless energy of Darkthrone, drawing new followers into their dark world, enchanting black metal purists and new devotees alike.

Their long-awaited debut album, Death’s Promise, is a pitiless, unsparing manifestation of BRÜKA’s vision—both a salute to the unadulterated spirit of black metal and an indelible exploration of darkness and despair.

    Minorcan – Nightmare Rider

Minorcan has today premiered his new video for the track ‘Nightmare Rider’ from their upcoming album ‘Rock Alone’ dropping February 14th.

Almost feeling like a modern day protest song for the self and against the personal negative, traces of Bob Dylan clash with retrospective and introverted hybrids of guitar and electronica, Minorcan selves into the id and the self with the mind of a musician and the honesty of a poet.

Distinctly originaly and quasi sarcastic, Minorcan is a fresh voice in a tired world.

    About ‘Nightmare Rider’

To be a person, at times, can seem as though we are waiting for the worst to happen, living with the anxiety and fear our nightmares will become reality. The song, Nightmare Rider, is a reminder to myself to embrace the fear and anxiety, live with their presence, and ride the lucid nightmare. Ultimately, boiled down to its essence, my nightmare is to be without the ones I love, and I have to remind myself I’m not alone with this fear. We are communal beings and the thought of living without one another, separated, is incredibly terrifying. Home is a place we can all share, home is the heartbeat.

    About Minorcan

Minorcan stands distinct in presence, character, rock ‘n’ roll spirit and creates songs that come from an intimate heart, embracing the world and all within. These are songs bred in the aligning differences of intuition and instinct, music that merges impassioned energy with creative guile.

Minorcan is a basement arena rock band currently based in Asheville, NC. Having already released music under his own name in the early 2000s on Bi-Fi Records and Happy Happy Birthday To Me Records, Ryan Anderson founded Minorcan in 2010, naming it in reference to the swampy, coastal area of North Florida where he was originally born and raised. With a full line-up, Minorcan has self-released a trio of albums; each reveling in their organic embrace of indie rock and alt pop. Across those well-received releases and numerous keenly welcomed ear virulent singles, Anderson and his band equally draw on roots rock and punk to weave a generously individual sound.

With a rich reputation for dynamic live shows Minorcan has more recently seen Anderson as a one-person rock n roll tour-de-force, earning suggestions that he is giving the best performances of his 20+ year career. This organic energy has similarly fueled his songwriting and music as his forthcoming new album, Rock Alone testifies.

Rock Alone is set to be self-released on vinyl in February 2025 featuring eight new songs. To be teased by a host of singles such as the upcoming “Scorpio Sting.” the album revels in a rich palette of creative fertility around a heart courted by instinct, devilment and the kaleidoscope of love.

    Jack Swing – Like Water + Q&A

Jack Swing is a 4-piece Pittsburg-based rock band that combines the dreaminess of indie with the grooviness of funk, and soul of blues. The band consists of Isaiah Ross (Vox, guitar, bass), Rowdy Kanarek (Vox guitar, bass) Isaiah Small (keys), and Alex Nelson (drums).

It begins with a nostalgic scene: The band members are driving in a fire-engine-red car. The light is warm-hued, and the camera is blurred. A chill lead guitar line intertwines with hand percussion, creating the seed of the sound.

The song makes us drift to different feelings, like a piece of wood might float on a gentle wave. However, we always come back to the same familiar place: The beginning. And the lead guitar line becomes more and more alluring each time it returns…

Twangy funky vibing guitars begin to blend with bright-timbred chimes and undulating bass statements. Visually, the sun sets and rises as the group gets closer to their destination. As the soul-searching lyrics repeat, the visual zooms out and we realize that the car is now driving through the ocean…

“Like Water” is a flowingly wistful single which surrounds our psyche, and causes feelings of love, longing, and playful curiosity about the universe to rise.

As the song fades, the visuals close to a sunset. The final notes, a delicate chime, leave us feeling at ease…

Jack Swing is set to release their first full-length album in 2025. ‘Like Water’ will be the lead single and title track off the band’s debut album, and allows listeners to have a moment of reflection amidst the bands’ high-voltage LP.

    Q&A

You mentioned your music video being a labor of love. Can you tell us a bit more about the process of making it?

Absolutely. A big theme with everything we’ve done with the band has been family and friendship. When coming up with this idea it only made sense to work with people we have known and worked with for years. Matt (Matthew Williams, Director/Editor) and I came up with the idea one evening probably a year and a half ago. Once we got the ball rolling on this we immediately reached out to Raffael DiLullo, director of photography on “Get What’s Mine for You” and cemented the plan. We borrowed my dad’s car and worked with the good folks over at Tech 25, all of whom we’ve worked with on various projects over the years. All of this to say, it was a very comfortable environment. Which I believe was crucial to pull off such a ridiculous idea.

Is the nostalgic blurred effect in the videography a lens cover with Vaseline on it, or something else?

I unfortunately know very little about the videography side of things. I reached out to Matt with this question and am gonna do my best to decipher his answer. Basically it’s a digital effect that he came up with by doubling the footage and then on one of the doubles he blurs the image, lowers the opacity, and does a different color correction. Layering those ultimately creates that effect. I hope my explanation did that justice.

As for the album art: What is the meaning behind the jaguar in water?

For the album art we reached out to our old friend and collaborator, Matthew Vituccio. I sent him the album and gave him free reign as far as making whatever the music inspired him to. As always, I loved his direction and we rolled with it.

What was the first lyric or line of music you guys wrote for “Like Water”?

Like Water is one of those songs that came to me super naturally. So looking back I do think the first line of the song, “Tides is rising, don’t you think?” was what came to me first.

What is your relationship to cosmic forces and substances? The song (as a whole) feels very dreamy and positive.

I’m definitely big on cosmic forces. That line I suppose is more me just referencing their power and what feels like influence that I experience. I definitely have a unique relationship to substances, though that’s not what I’m referring to here. The night I wrote this I was hanging out with Rowdy and a couple dear friends and it was one of those nights where everything in the universe was absolutely correct. I think I’m referring to the fact that we were smoking weed in that moment? But basically the vibe is those special moments existing while the world is on fire around you.

What was it like working with Jonah Handler on this tune?

Jonah plays on the entire album and was a consistent member of the band during this period. He is one of my oldest friends and truly a pleasure to make music with. We ultimately just went different directions but I’m sure we’ll play together more in the future and I look forward to it.

How has your songwriting and rehearsal process changed in 6 years (since “Take the Night”) and how has it stayed the same?

That’s a tough question simply because I feel like we’ve grown so much since then that it’s almost hard to remember exactly how we did things then. The biggest thing I’d say is we have a lot more experience now. We have been working together and writing songs together for so long that we have such a deep understanding of how we all play. Things have become a lot more natural and collaborative. This growth also allows for us to achieve clearer intentions within songs. The biggest difference truly just being the experience we’ve gained in these past 6 years.
