ShareTweet Sugar Lazy Bird 2:26 Lazy Bird is an artist and songwriter with a focus on setting the bar higher in terms of genre definitions and sonic aesthetics. His sound could be described as a one-of-a-kind combination of modern hip-hop and other influences, going for a truly astonishing sonic formula. Recently, the artist managed to wrap up an exciting debut project titled Submerged. For many artists, a debut release is an opportunity to showcase their range of skills and give the audience an insight into what they can do. Lazy Bird definitely managed to make the most out of this opportunity, over the span of four exciting tracks. Each song has something to offer, and you really get a sense that the artist consciously tried to provide a broad sonic palette to cater to a diverse audience and voice his kaleidoscopic creativity without too much restraint. The first song, “Closet Talk,” featured a layered production and some melodic vocal hooks, contrasting beautifully with the second song, “Long Distance,” which in turn, has a sparser feel, heavily focused on creating a lush, dark mood, and letting the lyrics stand out. The third song on the EP, “Open Road,” happens to be one of the most interesting tracks on the rhythm stand-point. The drum machine pattern is really hypnotic, and the fast-paced hi-hat grooves really drive the song and cut through the layers of ambiance so seamlessly. Last but not least, “Social Mediation” is a really good curtain closer. The kick and snare hit with nuclear power, breaking through the deep layers of synths and melodic instruments that add so much richness to the sound. At the end of the day, the EP is going to be right up your alley if you are a fan of artists as diverse as Kendrick Lamar, Mac Miller, and Lupe Fiasco. There is something timeless about this release, and one of its perks is most definitely the fact that there is a great balance of substance and entertainment value driving this release. In other words, Submerged is a fun and engaging EP, but there is also a lot of musical and conceptual depth to it!
