Jammerzine has an exclusive interview with Ben Aylward from the band Fabels. Having today released their new album titled ‘Minds’, Fabels have further defined their original sound. And, today, we get to talk with Ben about that sound, Fabels beginnings as well as the process of making ‘Minds’. We also go off topic a few times and make a really good and in depth conversation. ‘Minds’, out today from Fabels (links below) isn’t so much an album as it is a journey. Every track is signature and, even sonically in its own dimensions. As freeform as jazz and stylistic as Post-Modern, ‘Minds’ is an open hive of soundscapes and audio connections that inspire and infuse for fellow musicians and enthralls old and new fans alike. Fabels records each track as if capturing that moment in time and creating a soundtrack just for that. That moment can be anything to anyone, but now it’s enriched.
About Fabels
Fabels are Hiske Weijers, Ben Aylward (plus live, guest performer Tim Powles/The Church) who play original, experimental, progressive, dreamscape music with dynamic arrangements. Formed in Sydney, late 2010, the band have toured extensively through Australia and Europe and have released two albums ‘Zimmer’ 2012, and ‘Hi’2016.
Fabels’ new album ‘Minds’ is a journey into atmospheres, repetition and multilingual vocals with electronics, keys and sometimes angular and shoegaze guitar sounds. The album creates a reality set in its own time and space, its lyrical content is purposely abstract to blend into the music and to inspire the listener to make up their own meaning. Most songs were recorded with structure while some vocal parts were improvised live in the studio.
Recorded over three years with Icelandic music producer Geir Brillian Gunnarsson, the album is a true labor of love and reveals itself to be a strong artistic statement. ‘Minds’ is a direct and focused work that keeps originality and imagination alive!
This is Fabels’ third album and it will be released on vinyl, CD and digitally though the Qusp label.
