Azix, Inc. announced the launch of Waku Waku +NYC today, a new Japanese anime–pop culture festival, debuting this August in Brooklyn. The event will be held on August 29-30 in the new Brooklyn Expo Center and feature special events throughout Brooklyn’s Williamsburg and Greenpoint neighborhoods.

Waku Waku will be Azix’s first foray into pop culture events.

“Waku Waku is a Japanese expression for excitement, and it’s exactly how we want our attendees to feel,” Chikako Ichihara, Azix’s President said. “We’re looking to create an event that brings Cool Japan to New York’s coolest borough, something that’s part anime convention, part food festival, and part block party—and something that will inspire all our audiences to create something new.”

Waku Waku +NYC will feature exhibits, panels, screenings, and guests from both Brooklyn and across Japan, and will strive to create unique, interactive spaces from art displays to workshops designed to foster the imagination and “waku waku” spirit among the event’s guests and attendees alike. Participants will include Takao Koyama, screenwriter for Dragon Ball Z, and Time Bokan, Baby, Putumayo, the leading Harajuku Fashion Brand, Sebastian Masuda, Artist and Director of the Sensational Kawaii-themed concept shop 6% DOKIDOKI, iconic pop Artists, many animators, artists, and more.
