2X GRAMMY winner Samara Joy, who took home the auspicious prize for “Best New Artist” at the 65th Annual GRAMMY Awards® earlier this year, earned her third nomination today for “Best Jazz Performance” with her self-produced single “Tight.” Featuring Joy with her working band (pianist Luther Allison, bassist Mikey Migliore and drummer Evan Sherman), the track was recorded at the legendary Electric Lady Studios in NYC. Originally written by Betty Carter and a true showcase of Joy’s incredible range, “Tight” has been a fan favorite during Joy’s sold-out performances all over the world.
Joy’s single “Lush Life” also earned a 2024 nomination for “Best Arrangement, Instruments and Vocals” for its arranger Kendric McCallister. Listen to “Lush Life” (currently available as an Amazon exclusive) HERE.
Shortly before the nominations were announced earlier today, Joy joined CBS Mornings to reflect on her whirlwind year that began when she took home GRAMMY Awards for “Best New Artist” and “Best Jazz Vocal Album,” plus her new holiday EP and upcoming holiday tour. Watch the interview below.
Kicking off December 1 in Houston, Joy’s ‘A Joyful Holiday Tour’ will stop in Nashville, Atlanta, Philadelphia, and more, plus two highly-anticipated hometown shows at the Apollo Theater in NYC.
Since Joy’s breakout GRAMMY wins earlier this year, her latest full-length studio album Linger Awhile reached #1 on Amazon Best Sellers, Billboard Jazz, Pandora Trendsetters, iTunes and Amazon’s digital-music and CD sales, and more. Joy has garnered over 1 million followers on social media, and her tour dates all over the world have rapidly sold out. Her voice, rich and velvety yet precociously refined, has already earned her legions of fans in addition to millions of likes on TikTok — cementing her status as perhaps the first Gen Z jazz singing star.
Joy is the star of Theory’s holiday campaign. Watch Joy’s stunning performance of Barry Harris’ “Now And Then” (featuring her original lyrics) in the campaign video HERE, shot by Tyler Mitchell and styled by Yohana Lebasi.
The “Verve Vinyl Collection” – comprised of Joy’s 3 Verve LPs ‘Linger Awhile,’ ‘Linger Awhile Longer,’ and ‘A Joyful Holiday’ – is set for release on November 17. Pre-order HERE.
