Peter Hollens, the one-man a cappella vocalist, video producer, and YouTube star whose popular videos have amassed over 150-plus million views is thrilled to announce his second album release. Available March 18, Misty Mountains: Songs Inspired by The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings will be available on Portrait Records, an imprint of Sony Music Masterworks. The music video for “Arwen’s Song” is out now – see it here.
“This album has been requested thousands of times by my fans,” says Hollens. “It is so vital for me to always listen to the people who love and support my art. This is for you Hollensfamily!”
Misty Mountains, which Hollens produced himself, opens with “I See Fire,” Ed Sheeran’s hit theme for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. The album then plays through a series of well-known songs from the beloved Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films, crafted by Neil Finn, Enya, Annie Lennox, and Howard Shore. “Song of the Lonely Mountain,” “May It Be,” and “Into the West” are just a few of the songs included on the new album (full tracklisting below). Misty Mountains also features contributions from guest artists like Tim Foust (title track) of a cappella group Home Free and a winner of NBC’s The Sing-Off, violinist and fellow YouTube star Taylor Davis (“I See Fire”, “May It Be”), plus musician and YouTube vlogger Hank Green, known for the his channel vlogbrothers (“Hobbit Drinking Medley”).
Hollens is a one-man a cappella group in more ways than one, a singer, arranger (engineer), and producer who sings all the parts of each song, then layers and blends them together. He began his a cappella career in 1999 co-founding the University of Oregon’s award-winning a cappella group, On The Rocks. In 2010, the group was featured on The Sing-Off Season 2. Since then, Hollens has released over 100 digital singles and amassed 1.3 million YouTube subscribers.
Hollens has performed in iconic venues such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and the Beacon Theatre in New York City. He has collaborated with some of YouTube’s biggest artists including The Piano Guys, Lindsey Stirling, George Watsky and Tyler Ward, as well as with Jason Mraz and Hunter Hayes, and earned a seat on the YouTube creator advisory board. Hollens is also on the advisory board of tech companies like Patreon, Loudr, Tubular, which help creators in the industry.
