Formed in 2013, Peasant Moon is Sydney based singer-songwriter Harvey Russell and long time collaborator Josie Rothwell.
Peasant Moon can be as tender as they can be tense. Their live shows blend folk and Americana with their sound paired back to the essentials – Harvey’s acoustic and Tweedy-like vocals with Josie adding melodica, percussion and gentle harmonies.
The rich, heart-filled and sometimes dark songs on their 2015 debut EP ‘Fading in the light’ speak of lonely nights, unanswered questions and quiet resolve.
Drawing on inspiration from acts like the Civil Wars, Lowland Hum, Mandolin Orange, and Ryan Adams, Peasant Moon offers the listener the opportunity to be drawn into their world. Whether in a moonlit backyard setting or an inner city dive bar, Harvey and Josie bare their souls, creating an atmosphere that sets them apart.
Peasant Moon are regulars in the vibrant Sydney alt country scene. Their songs have had airplay on Sydney’s FBI and 2Ser stations as well as nationally on The Inside Sleeve (Radio National) and Roots n All (Triple J).
Their debut EP “Fading in the light” was released in June 2015.
