Rodney scores another hit for the backbeat with his new single “You Will Struggle (Rod’s Glitchy Disco Mix)”. Glitchy it is not, however, as each beat digs for that spot in your soul where the groove lies and takes over from there. To captivate an audience using nothing but a computer and skills is no easy feat yet Rodney is right at home churning out masterpieces from his desktop and this latest track proves that the “struggle” has paid off well. Bravo!
Rodney Cromwell to play Threshold Festival 2016 in Liverpool
London synthpop wonder Rodney Cromwell has announced that he will be performing at the Threshold Festival of Music and Arts in Liverpool on Saturday, April 2nd on the Silicon Dreams stage. In 2015, he debuted with the ‘Age of Anxiety’ LP and followed up with the ‘Black Dog’ EP, both via Happy Robots Records. These releases introduce the modern electronic lover to some epic retro future synth music. Inspired by the classic analogue-synth pop sound of the 80’s, this is complemented lyrically by Cromwell’s acerbic take on his struggle with his personal demons.
Hailing from Catford in South London, Rodney Cromwell is the solo project of Adam Cresswell, founding member of indie-folktronica band Saloon (who had four entries in John Peel’s Festive 50, recorded three Peel Sessions and had top 10 album of the year in The Sunday Times) and one half of electronic two-piece Arthur & Martha (acclaimed by the likes of NME, The Guardian and Artrocker). On this EP, singer Alice Hubley (Arthur & Martha, Cosines) also features on the songs ‘Black Dog’ and ‘You Will Struggle’.
In his short career as a solo artist, Rodney Cromwell has gained solid support from Malcolm Holmes (OMD) and Rusty Egan (Visage, Rich Kids). His music has had coverage in over 50 countries, including airplay on BBC6 Music thanks to Steve Lamacq and Gideon Coe, on Soho Radio with Pete Paphides, with global airplay including multiple spins on national Radio 3 in Spain, extensive coverage on American and Canadian college radio and countless electronic music shows. Press coverage has seen appearances in Electronic Sound Magazine, NME, Impose, Northern Transmissions, and many more.
In December, The Electricity Club named Rodney Cromwell ‘Most Promising New Act of 2015′ and listed ‘Black Dog’ among their top songs of 2015 alongside Chvrches, New Order, Wolfgang Flur, Gwenno and others. ‘Age of Anxiety’ was also included in 25+ ‘Best of 2015’ lists and was named Synthpop Album of the Year by The Record Stache.
The ‘Black Dog’ EP and ‘Age of Anxiety’ LP are available on Bandcamp and CDs are available through Cargo Records and Darla Records. Catch Rodney Cromwell at the Threshold Festival in Liverpool on Saturday, April 2nd on the Silicon Dreams stage (show time after 9:30pm).
