Following the launch of his own label, Magic Cactus Records, and the release of promo track, ‘Everything Changes In Time’, former Electroshock Therapy frontman, Tom Lockett releases his highly anticipated debut solo single, ‘Feeling Bad’.
The introductory record offers a totally different feel to taster track, ‘Everything Changes In Time’, which was depicted as “stunning psych tinged folk”, “sorrowful, haunting and transfixing”, and which saw Tom described as “gifted”, with “a voice that will blow you away”. Now with the addition of extra instrumentation, from harmonicas to electric organs, we see a whole other dimension to the folk singer-songwriter. ‘Feeling Bad’ is a groovy blend of folk, blues, jazz, and psychedelia, a sound which Tom Lockett himself describes as ‘The Great Depression on acid’.
Recorded to tape using an array of vintage instruments and equipment, and mixed in mono, the premiere release from Magic Cactus Records demonstrates an old-school approach and gives us an idea of what to expect from the label in the future. The record was co-produced by Tom Lockett and Shaun Lowe (producer of soul legends, The Drifters) at Prism Recording Studios.
‘Feeling Bad’ is backed with anti-establishment folk ballad, ‘I May Be Down But I’m Looking Up’.
The single will be released through Magic Cactus Records on Friday 5th August. 250 ltd edition CD’s, as well as a digital download format of the single will be available to pre-order from Sunday 19th June.
Tom Lockett will embark on his first ever national tour, as well as hosting a launch show in his hometown of Stoke-on-Trent to celebrate the release.
