Daily Dose: Down To Fumes - Pony TailWith the release of their self-titled album, Down To Fumes brings a new feel to a classic genre. Lush with addicting vocal harmonies, progressive guitar sections, and an classic rock attitude, the record boasts the aesthetic of indie rock anthems. Though the songs are diverse from one another, there is a glue that holds them all together much like a concept album would. Most importantly, the album never loses sight of the emotional platform great songs are built from.

The first single, “There Was a Time” is an instant classic in the way of rock n’ roll. Complete with guitar hooks, and soulful vocals, the song seems to breathe and build as it plays on.

“The song is about looking back on those special days of youth. All that mattered was good friends, days at the lake and the summer sun. The sound of the band and the first single are reflective of an era when guitar, bass, and drums where the pulse of most bands,” explains songwriter Barry Muir of the bands single.

Although the single speaks volumes for the album, to get a real understanding of where Muir is coming from, it should be heard in its entirety.

“I’ve had the good fortune throughout the years to have worked with such legendary producers as Mick Ronson from David Bowie, multi-platinum producer Bob Rock, Danny Kortchmar from James Taylor/Carol King, David Tickel and Paul McKenna, all world class producers. All have had a tremendous influence in Barry’s career as a musician and producer,” says Muir of how the album came together.

Formed in 2014, Down to Fumes began with a writing partnership between Muir and lyricist, Devra Epstein both from Vancouver, Canada. The duo had written enough songs for a few albums in a very short time. Soon after, longtime friend and fellow guitarist, Paul Tobin joined the group and work soon started on the debut, self-titled album, Down To Fumes. The album was recorded and produced by Muir himself in Vancouver.

Muir is probably the only Canadian musician to have been a part of three different bands that were each nominated for “Most Promising Group of the Year” winning it twice, once with the Payola$ and again with Barney Bentall and the Legendary Hearts. The Blue Shadows also had a tremendous Canadian following and became a true critical success when they were voted as one of the best Canadian bands by McLean’s magazine.

The Down To Fumes album is available now for streaming and download on most major digital outlets and Muir is planning a small tour in support of the release. The band is already starting talks of a second release in the works.
