Puppet Theory is a band that had me guessing in regards to influences throughout the first listen of their new song titled ‘Drifting’. At first, with the subtle intro, I pegged their primary influence as a kind of ‘Starfish’ era The Church. Man, was I wrong, as the intro crashed into a blunt verse with a rich, lush versal hook and just kept rising from there. This song has such a subtle energy about it that you can’t help but give it a second and third listen and occasionally return to the song via the hooks in your head throughout the day. Bravo!
About Puppet Theory
Formed in Manchester in 2016, Puppet Theory was founded by guitarist Johnny and joined by Chris, Niall, and Paul. Taking influences from pop-punk, the early 2000’s indie and American rock, Puppet Theory’s main aim is to write catchy, energetic, foot-stomping music which has sing-out loud choruses.
This has allowed them to create a modern twist on the indie-rock sound in a similar style to Circa Waves and Catfish and the Bottlemen.
Puppet Theory has been backed by Liverpool’s BBC Introducing team, Manchester-based label and prominent promoter, Scruff of the Neck, Derbyshire-based record label Sound Hub and GAS Music, with them, set to climb the next rung on the music career ladder.
They have achieved several accolades with their live performances, which has seen them play a number of high-profile shows in the North West of England. These have included: The Ritz and Academy 2 in Manchester, 53 Degrees in Preston and Hangar 34 in Liverpool as well as Dot to Dot Festival and Macclesfield Festival.
