Andrea Turk has officially released her new video for the single titled ‘Give It 2 Me’. Dropping the calm like a bomb with pseudo angelic stylistic vocals over staccato beats and a frantic dancefloor vibe Andrea snaps the chat into place and delivers the goods. Underground is the new place to be and this video was shot on location.
About Andrea Turk & ‘Give It 2 Me’
Indonesian-Croation electro-pop artist Andrea Turk is poised to announce a brand new release with the arrival of ‘GIVE IT 2 ME’. Fusing scintillating, infectious rhythms coupled with bold, striking visuals, the confessional track sees Andrea contemplating identity, hopefulness and the pervasive nature of love.
Andrea details the track: “I feel like I’ve finally found my sound with this song. Not only did the songwriting process feel so natural, the entire song was also written about a girl I was crushing on that was playing hard to get- and I could tell the tension between us was rising. I’ve always been shy to talk about my sexuality because of the norms I grew up with and the society I was surrounded by. Finally, I have a support system who can make me feel safe enough to share with this part of me in my music. Han (the director) really wanted to make that apparent in the video. The crew was made up of almost — if not all — BIPOC and LGBTQ members, and you can definitely tell we were just having a good time together. Everyone on set was a close friend and they made this project a dream come true for me.”
The 20-year-old queer singer-songwriter / producer is currently working on her 4th studio album, ‘GOVERNMENT NAME’, a Neo 80’s-Disco-Hyperpop album infused with themes of immigration, queerness, liberation, sex, love and feminism in collaboration with Dylan Allen Todd, otherwise known as, DAT.
“GIVE IT 2 ME,” the first single off of “GOVERNMENT NAME,” is an unapologetic and confident disco bop that forgoes formalities and freely discusses sexuality. Turk celebrates love and intimate connection with a diverse community of collaborators and friends formed at California Institute of the Arts and the city of Los Angeles who inspired the core themes in “GOVERNMENT NAME.”
In the accompanying music video for “GIVE IT 2 ME” directed by queer Indonesian filmmaker Hanna Radjawane (aka ‘Radical Horde’), Turk will showcase the flamboyant found queer love she has encountered in 2021 with a wet, neon lit latex dance party.
As of 2021, Andrea Turk has accumulated a total of 2.5 million streams across Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube and SoundCloud. Turk has been featured in multiple international Spotify and Apple Music curated playlists such as “New Music Friday” and “Indonesian Music Today.”
She has been described as a ‘game changer’ in Indonesia’s High-End Magazine in 2019 and awarded first prize in the “International Category” at Youth International Songwriting Competition in 2019 by Song Academy UK. Her song “Salem” featuring guitarist, Dewa Budjana, has won multiple awards including first prize for the Charleston International Music Competition in 2020 and “Best Female Artist” of the 17th annual International Acoustic Music Awards in 2020.
Turk’s performance as the opening act for the Chainsmokers’ LIVE Concert in Jakarta, Indonesia with DJ group Weird Genius in March 2018, led to her debut 2019 solo concert, “Andrea Turk & The Gigantics,” where she performed her first two albums with her Indonesian artist collaborators and friends. Not only was the concert presented as a farewell gift to her fans before her departure to the United States, but also as a fundraising project for the YKAKI Kids Cancer foundation, who appointed Turk the youngest ambassador for the organization.
Andrea Turk is the recipient of multiple achievements, awards, and scholarships including CALARTS’ The Lillian Disney Scholarship and the NYU Tisch x Billboard’s “Music Industry Essentials” scholarship. She has had her song “Garden” featured in an Indonesian blockbuster movie, now streamable through NETFLIX, titled “Rumput Tetangga” and recently landed a deal with Paris-based record label and music distributor Believe Music.
Andrea was hand-selected by the Indonesian president to perform as a soloist for Indonesia’s 74th Independence Day at Merdeka Palace in 2019 due to the rising buzz she created in her home country as well as being a descendant from W.R. Soepratman, Indonesia’s national hero and composer of national anthem “Indonesia Raya.”
Andrea currently resides in Los Angeles, California attending California Institute of the Arts, Berklee Online, and Pasadena City College pursuing an undergraduate in VoiceArts Performance and a minor in Digital Arts. Andrea has also studied at various institutions for Songwriting, Music Production and Mixing & Mastering such as Berklee College of Music, NYU Steinhardt, NYU Tisch, SAE Institute Jakarta and ARTSONICA, Jakarta.
