August was a good month for Canadian genre-benders Mirrelia as the Toronto outfit saw their sophomore EP released and went on their first tour as a band with Red Handed Denial for a two week run. The sophomore EP, entitled The Actor, was released August 10th and serves as a quick sample of the band’s current sound before they start recording their debut full length The Director later this year. Guitarist Jordan Kendal had this to say, “I think the song “Absences”, being a different style than anything we had recorded in the past, ended up turning out even better than we expected. Between experimenting with new vocal styles, as well as huge arrangements, we managed to convey an overall emotion that we never have before, and I think it was very important that we did.”
The EP includes influences from pop, RnB, progressive metal, and hardcore that are melded into the experimental post-hardcore outfit’s sound to create a dynamic sound. With Heavy Blog Is Heavy commenting that the band blends “a progressive approach to drums and overall structure with heavier segments that pack plenty of aggression.” The band then followed up the release with a two week tour that hit began August 15th in Newmarket. Notable dates included August 22nd in Ottawa, August 23rd in Hamilton, and August 30th in Toronto to finish the tour. The band will be taking a break from the road to record their full length, but should be touring again come 2015.
About Mirrelia:
Mirrelia was formed in 2010 with the clear vision to create a form of music that is unique in its delivery, honest in its message, and pure in its essence. The band draws influences from pop, RnB, jazz, progressive metal, and hardcore to create an interesting sound that draws listeners in. The band’s debut self-titled EP was released on October 15th, 2012 to local and international acclaim. From the post-hardcore reminiscent tinges on the opener “Brassdame” through the pop-rock influences on the first single “East of Eden”, to the overtly heavy tones in “Stray,” The self-titled EP was a collection and celebration of musical diversity and freedom.
After two years, the band is back with their three song EP entitled The Actor. The EP serves as a sample of the band’s current sound before they record The Director later this year. The EP shows the band’s vast musical evolution in songwriting, as evidenced in the grandiose “Absences.” With a growing reputation as acclaimed song writers, and uncompromising live performers, the essence of Mirrelia is strong and embraced by audiences across Ontario. The independent Toronto act continues to strive for perfection, honesty, and to deliver a raw, conscious and unconscious passion through both recorded and live performances.
