Alex Luke has released his new video for the track titled ‘DNA’ featuring Hayley Brown from his upcoming debut EP ‘Star Projector’, dropping November 17th. With a solid mix of hip-hop and a soulful angelic chorus, the mix is meaningful with a vivid piece of sonic art.

About Alex Luke & ‘DNA’

Alex Luke spills his heart about the estranged relationship with his father, in this introspective and soulful hip-hop triumph. Featuring an emotionally powerful chorus, sung by Hayley Brown, the self produced track is a testament to Luke’s authenticity and versatility as an artist. From the live drums placed deep in the pocket, to the self recorded brass arrangements, Alex Luke has ingrained the purest reflection of himself into ‘DNA’.

In the accompanying emotional performance video shot by Sophia J Carey (Loyle Carner, Little Simz), Luke captures the raw emotion of the track, through painting lyrical references onto canvas. Giving viewers a poignant glimpse into the turbulent narrative of ‘DNA’.

Alex Luke’s self-produced EP ‘Star Projector’ lands November 17th, setting the stage for a thrilling headline show on March 29th 2024 (with support from Dámì Sule), at Manchester’s iconic Deaf Institute (tickets on sale now).

With the unwavering support of grant funding from Help Musicians and dynamic partnerships with industry-leading moguls, Luke’s vision has uniquely flourished. ‘DNA’ serves as a stirring open letter, relatable to all in moments of turmoil.

Alex Luke speaks about the track

‘’Everything I needed to say seemed to fall onto the paper in a couple hours, then I came back to the lyrics in the studio to decide how it needed to be said.’’

‘’My favorite lyric in DNA is ‘I live in memories of the moments I’m making’, something I said to a close friend while on a trip together. I wrote it down on my notes in my phone, as I often do, but it stuck with me and I wanted it to become a part of the song. So even through the sadness of the record, there’s that little bit of light that shines through.’’

‘’I had a great time making DNA, working with some crazy talented session musicians. I made the demo in one night and I brought it to Sachin Patel (drums) Connor O’Hara (piano & trumpet) and Hayley Brown (vocals), and together we were able to bring the song to life more than I could have imagined.’’

‘’Something I really had fun with was the trumpets at the start of the track. I actually sampled different trumpet lines Connor and I had recorded for the chorus. I chopped them up and created the intro line, it ending up being my favorite part of the track!’’

In a poignant tribute to his late brother, who passed away in 2015, Alex sought solace in the embrace of music, adopting his brother’s middle name, ‘Luke’ as a timeless tribute to his memory.

His musical journey has been marked by unwavering dedication, earning recognition from The Ivors Academy, BBC Radio Introducing Manchester and Amazing radio. Independently, Luke has achieved remarkable milestones, selling out his last three headline shows in Manchester and securing support slots across the UK (including acts like Jahméne and Mamas Gun), and taking the stage at local festivals like Dot To Dot and Indie Week. Luke’s previous releases have garnered acclaim from UK and international media and radio, including accolades from When The Horn Blows, Mesmerized, Iggy Magazine, and The Punk Head.

Dive into the profound emotions of ‘DNA’ as Alex Luke skillfully navigates the genres that have shaped his artistry, crafting a refreshing and contemporary soundscape.
