Formed in 2018 by lead singer and guitarist Franklin Pratt, Sloth Racer strives to break the mold and create fresh and exciting tunes for their fans. The four members (Franklin Pratt, Jared Messinger, Reed Gilmore, and Zach Nelson) all come from a diverse musical background, which led them to discover their own unique flavor of reggae/rock.
Known for his high energy performances in local bars around the Gulf Coast area in various other bands, Franklin founded Sloth Racer to give something fresh to the Gulf Coast music scene. The EP “I’m Okay” was recorded at Dauphin Street Sound and released in late 2018. It featured four songs, all with a slightly different take on the broad genre of rock music. In the summer of 2019, the beachy sing-along reggae tune “She and I” was released to broaden the band’s catalog.
Soon after, the band combined their knowledge of audio engineering with their musical skills to found their own recording studio, “Red Sloth Studios”. This allowed the bandmates to continue creating music and generating income during the Covid-19 pandemic of 2020. Soon after they entered the recording process of their latest single “In Time” at their homegrown studio.
