Songwriting collectives are often creative melting pots in and of themselves, but when that melting pot includes the ingredients Tima May and Iain Harvie among others, that melting pot becomes volcanic. Check out this new single by the collective Aliens called ‘Turned to Flame’. The track is beautiful mix and blends of instruments combined in unison to create a rich and full sound with the road-weary vocals overlaid in such a way as to bring a tear to the eye.
About ‘Turned to Flame’
‘Turned to Flame’ is the new single release from Aliens’ debut album, ‘Terradome’. The video was directed by Gary Birch, a key member of the Aliens crew.
Aliens were created as a music/film collective by filmmaker, songwriter & singer, Tim May and Iain Harvie, best known as the guitarist for Del Amitri. They were soon joined by Helen Turner from Paul Weller & Style Council on keys, Martyn Barker from Shriekback on drums and The Bible’s Leroy Lendor on bass. Iain has now confined his Aliens duties to mixing and producing while Tim and the band play live.
‘Turned to Flame’ was written by Tim and Helen and produced by Neill MacColl (from David Gray, David Gilmour, Kathryn Williams, and The Bible). The song imagines what it feels like to have your inner world blown apart as everything outside descends into chaos. Driven by Helen’s emotive piano, it marks a departure from the band’s guitar-led Rock and Roll.
