Today’s ‘First Listen’ feature comes in three distinct forms, each representing the track in its own, specific way. I am talking about ‘Fanny’, the new track delivered in three distinct flavors from the artist known as Ty Segall. This is a brilliant concept because not only do you get to see the diversity of the artist but the diversity of the artist within the constraints of the same song. By giving different interpretations of the same song from the same artist shows just how creative that artist can be. And each version of ‘Fanny’ is uniquely delectable in its own way. The ‘Sketch’ version reminds me of vintage Matthew Sweet while the ‘Original Demo’ version gives that vintage folk-art-rock vibe of a lazy Sunday afternoon in the garage of a good band. The live acoustic version shows how good and entertaining Ty can be on his own in a live setting showing that artful energy and keeping the audience in full attention.
Scheduled to release on November 16, this vinyl can already be ordered from Aagoo Records HERE.
Segall is currently in the midst of a solo acoustic tour, in which he is showcasing deep cuts and live rarities from U.S. coast to coast. He is joined on select dates by Nashville guitar virtuoso William Tyler and Freedom Band staple Emmett Kelly (dates below).
About Ty Segall
Aagoo Records is proud to announce the release of ‘Fanny’, the new 7″ single from prolific rocker Ty Segall. Now based in Los Angeles, the 31-year-old noisemaker previously lived in San Francisco and Laguna Beach. ‘Fanny’ is a psychedelic ode to his dog, available on standard 7” and picture disc editions.
Not only does Segall’s single feature various cover and insert art painted by Segall himself, but also the track comes in three different forms: the demo, a revved-up “sketch” and a live recording from San Diego, California.
Each side of the picture disc features a yellow dog face painted by Segall, from his acrylic painting ‘Goopy Poodle’. Stare at it long enough and you’ll find it’s oddly comforting!
This ‘Fanny’ 7” is for a canine cause: all proceeds will go to the animal rescue organizations NKLA and Mighty Mutts, which are dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating the strays of Los Angeles and New York. It’s a tribute to our canine friends that only Segall could make.
Ever prolific, Ty Segall also just released his new ‘Fudge Sandwich’ LP, his fourth full-length this year, following ‘Freedom’s Goblin’, his collaborative effort with White Fence, and the latest record under his GØGGS name.

“Segall earnestly digs into the track with his vocals, coming up with a passionate view on the bond between human and dog. A sprinkle of lighter harmonies rise along with his exclamations, while country and blues guitar licks and sparking cymbals and drums add flesh”
