With their new video “Voices”, Lights That Change offer a fresh dose of pop sensibility combined with an astute knowledge of post-modern remembrance that soothes the soul and enlightens the ears. This is a sonic landscape worth exploring.
For all the many people who hold the early 4AD years in high esteem, North Wales has generated a band for their earbuds, sure to thrill and leave them wanting more. In fact, more is coming and rather soon. But let’s not jump the gun. Introducing Lights That Change, an alternative dreampop ethereal wave outfit, headed by producer Marc Joy, renowned for his production work with Golden Fable, Mike Peters of The Alarm, Bernard Butler of Suede, and ‘behind the scenes’ dabbling in projects for Oasis and Primal Scream.
After many years producing and engineering other artists, he turned his attention towards his own solo and collaborative creative endeavours. Thus was born Lights That Change, aimed at getting back to why he began a musical career in the first place and channeling his energies into creating the perfect dreamscape sonic horizon, primarily based on guitars.
This is not the debut release for Lights That Change. Their debut EP ‘Rainbow On Your Shoulder’ came out in 2013 on Ear to Ear Records, followed by ‘Whispers in February’ and have received support from BBC, Tom Robinson, and Amazing Radio, among others.
Over the past year, Lights That Change have undergone a reformation, with mysic songstress Mandy Clare on vocals, John Bryan on bass, and Marc Joy on guitars. They are now gearing up to release their debut LP ‘Byzantium’, which will be ready for release this summer and includes guest vocals from Rebecca Palin (Golden Fable) and drum programming from Mal Holmes (Orchestral Maneuvers In The Dark).
“I’m extremely happy to be involved in Lights That Change,” says Mal Holmes. “This has given me the freedom to create something special for ‘Voices’ and the new album doing what I love to do … this is why I started playing drums in the first place”.
We proudly present the first single from this forthcoming album, entitled ‘Voices’, chalked full of ethereal wave post-punk magic reminiscent of 4AD’s golden era. Here Mandy Clare lays mesmerizing vocals over a bed of drifting, powerfully moving soundscapes. Lights That Change will also be bringing their new permanent lineup to U.K. live audiences soon. In the meantime, there is a brilliant new video for ‘Voices’, produced by British videographer Jason Sheppard, Independent Music Video Award laureate for his video for Ummagma “The Road to Lees”.
