ChloA Watson is a young, aspiring singer-songwriter and musician from Las Vegas, Nevada. Even though ChloA is in the early stages of her career, she has already won several awards for her music. Her raw, poignant voice complements her soulful songwriting and has drawn comparisons reminiscent of Adele, Amy Winehouse, and Norah Jones.
Born in Las Vegas, ChloA performs regularly at her local Composers Showcase, coffee shops and charity events around town. Her singing prowess was identified at an early age where she won an Unsigned Only competition at age 12 for her cover of “What a difference a Day Makes” made famous by Dinah Washington. This got the attention of America Got Talent producers and at age thirteen, ChloA sang for Simon Cowel who gave her a yes and told her he loved her unique sound.
At age 16, ChloA wrote the lyrics and melody to Reality which she dedicated her first month of sales to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in honor of a close relative diagnosed with cancer.
ChloA’s family played an important role in developing her musical influences. Her grandmother “Nona”, born in 1926 and went to Uni High School in LA with Marilyn Monroe, exposed her to famous crooners and jazz singers like Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday at a very early age and would constantly play “New York, New York” in car rides and when they hung out.
When her Nona passed away, she performed her first live performance at the Henderson Pavilion, age 10, singing that same cherished song, “New York, New York” in dedication to her beloved grandma, making a bittersweet moment. Not only did ChloA’s Nona play “New York, New York,” but she played many of the old crooners of her era in those loved rides in her car. ChloA remembers those moments fondly, saying that her face “lit up” upon hearing Frank Sinatra’s voice for the first time.
In a slightly unexpected way, ChloA’s late grandfather also influenced her. A few years after his untimely death, ChloA discovered a wardrobe full of his vinyl records sent to her by her grandmother from California. ChloA used them to discover new music and inspiration.
As for more modern inspirations, ChloA mentions Frank Ocean, Norah Jones and Amy Winehouse as some of the musicians she emulates. ChloA also lists Bruno Major, as one of the artists with whom she would most like to collaborate with. She’s a huge fan of the Beatles album “Abbey Road,” as she constantly listens to it on her record player.
When writing and recording, ChloA says that melodies often just appear to her and then the lyrics usually flow when experimenting on the piano, guitar, or ukulele. ChloA explains that sometimes the songwriting process can be strenuous and time-consuming. Other times, the songwriting process is quick and happens suddenly. Usually when the songwriting seems to be taking too much time or thought it proves not as personal and she ends up not using that song in the future. It’s the spontaneous ones that have a greater effect.
“Reality” was recorded after performing it live first at a composer’s showcase in Las Vegas’s Smith Center for Performing arts.
