Gravity Machine has released their new single titled ‘Standing Stones’. The song has that roughly refreshing grit and grime set into a hook that features a not-so-subtle guitar track that is as in your face as it is in your ears, which I love. Everything is tasty about the song. From the aforementioned guitars to the vocals to the harmony. Everything has it’s place and that place is rock.
About Gravity Machine
Gravity Machine are two members – multi-instrumentalist Niall Parker and drummer Bob Shoesmith and they combine a huge range of influences, with the cornerstones of heavy rock, progressive rock, electronica, and acoustic styles all adding to the band’s distinctive sound.
Losing his wife to cancer in 2016, and taking inspiration from Neil Peart’s “Ghost Rider” book (detailing the Rush drummer’s journey through grief), Niall wrote a large canon of material following this – “Creativity seems the best response to events like that- I’d pretty much stopped playing prior to this…but the songs emerged, one-by-one, each one adding it’s weight to their collective demand to be heard” Niall said.
Recognising that the wide ranges of genres and influences that the material covered required outstanding production expertise, Niall contacted Dartmoor-based producer Pete Miles (Martin Grech, Bring Me The Horizon, Canterbury, Architects) at Middle Farm Studios; who after hearing the demos offered to produce the album in a series of session spanning 2018 and 2019.
Performed primarily by multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Niall Parker, the resulting album features drums from Bob Shoesmith, contributions from Pete Miles, vocalist Kat Marsh (Bring Me The Horizon, Choir Noir, We Are The Ocean) and bassist/engineer Chris Edney and Niall’s daughters.
Gravity Machine released two initial singles – “Dreamtime” and “It’s Summer” before releasing the album on the 31st March 2020 on their own Zyse Records imprint. A third single, “Lifting Mountains” followed in August 2020, to considerable critical acclaim and considerable airplay, including being playlisted by Planet Rock Radio’s New Rock Show. The fourth single is a special remix by Pete Miles of the album track “Standing Stones” and has been released with a new video.
About ‘Standing Stones’
The outline of this song came to Niall in 2009, while walking with a Canadian friend on Dartmoor. Slowly growing over time into a big rock song, the song was finally nailed down during the sessions at Middle Farm. Niall said “this was one song that just flowed in the studio- the skeleton of the song was laid down in one take, and everything else just flowed out from there…it’s another one that’s going to be a beast to play live!”. He added, “the video came together really easily as well- filmed out on the moor and in a blacked-out warehouse, we had a lot of fun putting this together…”.
