London-based musicians Gregor St John and Hannah Vasanth (AKA Xeniah) have released their stunning ode to womanhood ‘Woman Warrior’ on all download/streaming platforms today. The new track sees Hannah, a collaborator and producer for JP Cooper and session musician for Rihanna/Jessie J, step into the limelight along with the eco-driven folk singer-songwriter with a lush piece of dreamy acoustic pop produced by Neil Tollit (Izzy Bizzu/Lapsley/Swim Deep).
“The song is a celebration of gender equality and intercultural tolerance,” explains Gregor St John. “I hope that there’s love deep inside the song for all the lonely and damaged souls in this city. I have been street busking for a while and then one day, I walked into a recording studio and met Hannah Vasanth. She is a fine producer, and we did this song together out of nowhere. Hannah plays the piano, I play the classic guitar and we invited some friends to do some singing and percussion – it was a communal, collective experience and I hope the new song is for everyone who hears it.”
Gregor St John is a singer/songwriter from Hackney, and a pacifist, eco-activist, vegetarian, and passionate about tree planting. He is actively involved in the construction of a self-sufficient eco-community. Hannah Vasanth has been a studio and touring musician with some of pop’s leading names, including Sugababes, Jason Derulo and Anastacia – and performed at Madison Square Garden, The Staples Center and Wembley Stadium along the way.
