Michelle Daly has today premiered her new single titled ‘My Mama Told Me’ from her upcoming album ‘January Skies’ releasing in February, 2024. Michelle has that weathered soulful voice that captivates you from that first note. It’s beautiful. It’s immersive. It’s signature. While harkening back to the days of Motown and the Detroit OG soul scene, Michelle takes that and makes it her own and relevant for today’s music.

While the chorus will definitely take you aback with it’s powerful hook, the songwriting and Michelle’s blissful and heartfelt vocals will keep her in your memory.

About Michelle Daly

Berlin based, Irish singer-songwriter / musician Michelle Daly is pleased to announce a brand new release with the arrival of ‘My Mama Told Me’, lifted from the upcoming album ‘January Skies’ due in February 2024.

Drawing on a myriad on influences from pop, funk, soul, jazz and rhythm & blues, ‘My Mama Told Me’ is a lush and captivating personal story interwoven with an inspired nod to classic RnB and soul greats. Michelle says: “I wrote this song about my experiences in the music and performing arts industry, highlighting the constant struggles, rejections, disappointments, and uncertainties that artists often face. We keep going back for more despite no guarantee of success. It is also about facing the inevitability of the unfulfillment of our childhood hopes and dreams. Fortunately, I am lucky to have an incredibly supportive mother who, even in the face of these challenges, always reassures me that everything will eventually turn out okay, even if it feels far from the truth! I wanted an old-style R&B feel for this track, which is evident in the Bill Withers-inspired groove.”

Michelle Daly’s versatility ranges from soul, jazz, rhythm & blues to opera and her style is inspired by artists of a time past. Upon its soft release on Bandcamp and Vinyl, ‘January Skies’, Daly’s debut album was featured in ‘The Irish Times’ Best Albums of 2022′ shortlist. It is a result of a successful grass-roots crowdfunding campaign and was recorded at Jazzanova Recording Studio, Berlin. It is a collaboration with Australian composer, Michael Edwards – whose credits include Morcheeba and the Game of Thrones Soundtrack. Singles released to date include the album title track ‘January Skies’, ‘In My Dreams’ Missed Chances’ and Raven, which have been featured on the RTE RADIO ONE Recommended playlist, BBC RADIO Ulster and Jazz Radio Berlin.
