Posh Chocolates have just dropped their newest track called ‘Gaudy’. In a world where woke is the new black and social awareness is proudly worn on the sleeves of the new elite as a quasi-gesture of cryptic justice within the new groupthink, Posh Chocolates call out the ones whos say everything and do nothing with the bravado of a future classic filled with the snarkiness that only the truly awoken can possess.
‘Speak softly, but carry a big stick’ is the term to remember when listening to ‘Gaudy’ because actions really do speak louder than words. Brilliant song on many levels.
Posh Chocolates aren’t one of those bands who try to be cool, they just are. This can be heard in their latest manc-disco anthem GAUDY which harks back to the age of the new-romantics whilst flying the flag for pioneering production and satirical social commentary. Hailed by BBC Introducing’s Shell Zenner as ‘One To Watch’ in the Manchester scene for 2020, the band is gaining traction, and fast.

The band is made up of front-man and producer Christian Ellery, Sam Osbourne on drums and Robert ‘Bob’ Maguire-Jones taking synth and guitar. Having received notable praise from BBC Introducing as well as blog big hitters Kings of A&R and Essentially Pop, GAUDY follows suit but with greater mass-market appeal. GAUDY is lit by chopping Rickenbacker guitar lines that flirt between Nile Rodgers and Johnny Marr, with personable Ryan Jarman-esque vocals (The Cribs) whilst showcasing finessed melodies, and percussion that grooves you to within an inch of your life – snare rolls and cowbell o’plenty.
The Manchester 3-piece gave us the low-down on their latest offering:
GAUDY came from a necessity to vent such an irrational qualm I had with the pretentious trends of the current social economy. Working at the time in the “trendy” hub of Manchester, I found myself bemused by the lengths that people would go on to be profoundly unique, but thus when different becomes the norm we find ourself in a post-ironic free-for-all in which everyone is fighting to be crowned most “gaudy” or the most ethically “woke”. Don’t get me wrong, I say “eco-friendly” in jest – I obviously don’t inherently disagree with activism. But when someone’s mentioned how they’re newly vegan for the FIFTH time in one conversation, to try and gain some sort of moral high ground rather than for a viable reason, it gets a bit wearisome.
