Jammerzine is pleased to give you this exclusive premiere of NYC based avant-pop group known as Reliant Tom. This is a sonically dynamic duo that demands to be recognized with their sheer musical senses and hook-laden darkly tinged tracks that leave the listener in a state of yearning. Evidence of this is clearly in this new track, released today, called ‘Happy Birthday’. Beginning with a smooth musical swell and sensual vocals by singer Claire Cluny, then merging into a gorgeous and unexpected chorus that features a perfectly placed dirty guitar and electronic beat the track quickly calms down before becoming a mild aural assault once again. This is a track designed to touch on the emotional side of musical creativity.

Bad Orange will be available November 2 on CD and digital platforms via Diversion Records.

Abut Reliant Tom
Reliant Tom is an avant-pop and experimental performance art duo from the New York state area. Formed shortly after composer Monte Weber met choreographer and vocalist Claire Cuny at a DIY show in Brooklyn in 2015, the duo now pairs music with their unique talents of sound design, wearable technology, modern dance, and non-genre specific songwriting.

Their upcoming album, Bad Orange thematically focuses on the pitfalls in digital communication and the nature of modern social interaction – all through the guise of Avant pop/punk influenced musical devices paired with visuals and dance in their live performances.

“It is very interesting to work together from our differing backgrounds. Our ultimate goal with Reliant Tom is to be a multi-media performance experience that straddles the line between pop and experimental music – and philosophizing about what that even means, and is that even possible as “experimental pop”? It seems like it’s an oxymoron.”
– Claire Cluny

Lyrically, the album encompasses what it is like to live in the new American dystopia. It traverses alien landscapes, tackles themes of depression, separation, anger, introspection, and yet somehow ends with optimism.
