“Song is King” is how singer songwriter Terry Shaughnessy describes the process of songwriting, “You have to be a slave to the song”, this practice is 100% present on new single ‘Volcano’.

A souring riff opens the track, melting into an uplifting melody that has you instantly hooked. It’s an angst-ridden tale of the pressures of modern life, the restrictions that day to day routine put on the soul, which can then lead to creating fractured relationships. His influences include Ryan Adams, Dave Grohl and Neil Young and you can hear each of those artists tightly knit into this single with a sprinkle of Paul Weller.

After catching the eye of Death In Vegas’ Tim Holmes, Terry started working tirelessly on a collection of songs in the studio, of which ‘Volcano’ is his first release.

Hailing from Liverpool the art of songwriting is engrained in Terry’s DNA . He grew up completely surrounded by music from an early age, Shaughnessy decided to take the next logical step and write songs in earnest, taking them out on the road, in the beginning just his acoustic guitar as backing.

His live shows are majestic, his songs take on a new lease of life and he’s already had the honor to play with the late, great legends Ian McLagan and Joe Strummer, he’s also shared the stage with Ocean Colour Scene and Trio Valore.

After playing at some huge festivals including Oxygen Festival, T in the Park, Glastonbury and Fest n Mind in France, he now has shows in the States and more releases on the horizon for early next year, meaning the next 12 months are looking bright for Terry Shaughnessy.
